Emily still looked a bit puzzled.

Charles awkwardly pointed in Knox’s direction. “Well, there is still another one here!”

Daniel shot him a frosty glare.

Charles straightened up, unfazed.

With Charles’s reminder, Emily finally remembered.

Following his gesture, she met Knox’s gloomy, somewhat sinister, and resentful gaze.

Emily immediately felt guilty. “Right, Knox, I’m so sorry. I got so caught up chatting with an embroidery master that I completely forgot.”

Knox had seen how happy Emily looked earlier.

He knew she was genuinely happy and understood her past. He should be glad she could feel this way.

So, he couldn’t bring himself to blame her.

But he couldn’t just let it slide either.

He purposely put on a stern face. “If you want my forgiveness, it’s not impossible. You gotta promise to spend the rest of the day with

me!”

“Knox, that’s kinda harsh. It’s Emily’s choice who she spends time with. If you can’t respect that, maybe you shouldn’t be friends,” Daniel

said, not realizing how out of character he was acting because of Emily.

Knox turned to Emily with a question. “So, did I restrict your freedom?”

Emily knew she was in the wrong.

And she knew Knox wasn’t usually this unforgiving. He probably had something to tell her.

She apologized to Daniel, “Thanks for helping with Mr. Ward today. I’ll thank you properly later. Knox probably has something to discuss with me, and I did ignore him earlier. He’s my friend, and I should apologize. Can you guys go ahead without me?”

Emily looked at him with hopeful eyes.

She even tugged on his sleeve, almost playfully.

Daniel couldn’t bear to make things difficult for her, especially when she was being so sweet. His heart swelled. “Alright!”

The words came out before he knew it.

Emily breathed a sigh of relief.

Perhaps it was because Knox and Daniel were both so imposing that the pressure became intense when they were together.

As soon as Daniel left the restaurant, he got a call from Zach.

“Zach, what’s up?”

Daniel guessed it was about the hospital.

“Mr. Daniel Smith, Mr. Soren Smith, and Mr. Vance Smith’s families have arrived. They want to transfer Mr. Mason Smith to another hospital for further examination since his condition doesn’t seem to be improving.”

Actually, Soren and Vance were the ones who least wanted anything to happen to Mason.

With Daniel holding the real power, Soren and Vance only got dividends and always tried to get more from Mason.

If Mason suddenly had an issue, they feared he would leave more to Daniel,

They didn’t understand Daniel.

He wasn’t materialistic. The companies he owned and his expanding ventures were more than enough for him. He didn’t care about Mason’s possessions.

But someone might have been stirring things up, making Soren and Vance blind to the situation and secretly competing.

Mason’s condition was stable now.

He was just pretending to be sick to help Daniel.

There was no need to transfer Mason.

It was unclear if Soren and Vance were genuinely concerned about Mason or if someone was manipulating them.

If this had been the day before, Mason would have had a headache if Emily hadn’t treated him with acupuncture.

Now, he was just pretending to be unconscious, waiting for Daniel to handle it.

As soon as the door opened, Daniel’s presence alone silenced the room.

Daniel’s cold gaze swept over everyone. “Why did you stop? Keep going.”

His voice was deep and icy.

The previously aggressive people suddenly looked guilty and lowered their heads.

Veda bravely stepped forward. “Daniel, don’t be mad. My dad and Vance are just worried about Great–Grandpa. This hospital can’t find the

cause, and just staying here isn’t helping. We should find a better hospital and doctors, but Great–Grandpa is being stubborn and won’t

listen!

Daniel laughed coldly. “Where were you before? Grandpa got sick, and none of you knew. If Zach hadn’t informed you, would you be here?

Grandpa needs rest. Talk to me instead.”

With his command, an empty room was quickly arranged.

They had hoped to deal with Mason while Daniel was away, but Mason’s refusal brought Daniel back.

Once inside, with the door closed, Daniel’s mere glance silenced everyone.

“Whose idea was it to transfer Grandpa?”

Daniel asked coldly.

Soren glanced at Vance.

Both were intimidated and couldn’t speak.

“It was Vance’s idea. He said Grandpa’s condition wasn’t improving, so we should transfer him.”

“Soren, that’s not true. You were the one crying that Grandpa must have a serious illness and needed a thorough checkup,” Vance argued. “You started it, not me. Actually, it was Veda’s suggestion. She loves Grandpa the most and wouldn’t have any bad intentions.”
