Chapter 214

“Who are you looking for? Violette asked instinctively when she heard the doorbell. Rhett’s presence still lingered in her mind.

Daniel and Emily had just left, and the only people who knew about this villa were the Johnsons or the Moores, which explained her cautious reaction.

Knox had found out that Emily was staying with Violette. Noticing the slight resemblance between Violette and Emily, he quickly guessed her identity.

‘Hey, you must be Violette, right? I’m Knox, a friend of Emily’s. Is she around?” Knox greeted her, trying to be friendly.

Violette noticed his good looks, sharp attire, and gentle demeanor, which put her at ease a bit. But since Emily wasn’t home, she responded honestly, “Hi, Emily’s not here right now. Since you’re her friend, why not give her a call or text? She left early this morning.”

Knox hadn’t expected to miss her. He had hoped to surprise Emily with a visit, but it seemed he was out of luck.

“How about you call Emily to confirm I’m her friend, and then you can invite me in to wait?” Violette suggested cautiously.

Knox declined, “Since Emily isn’t home, I’ll come back another time. Thanks, Violette. I’ll be on my way now.”

He was so polite and gentlemanly, the kind of demeanor that elders would love.

“Take care!” Violette waved as Knox smiled and turned to leave. The moment he turned away, his smile vanished.

He had planned to call Emily and ask where she was and if she needed any help. As he drove past the neighboring villa, he remembered his investigation.

Knox suddenly stopped the car and went to knock on the door of the neighboring villa. York hadn’t accompanied Daniel and Emily to the Smith Villa today to give them some alone time. Recognizing Knox immediately when he opened the door, York greeted him.

“Mr. Green, are you looking for Mr. Smith?”

“Yeah, I need to talk to him. Is he around?” Knox asked, his tone less friendly than before.

York apologized, “Mr. Green, I’m sorry, but Mr. Smith isn’t here. He’s gone to the Smith Villa with Ms. Johnson.”

His words hinted to Knox that any plans he had for Emily might be futile. The fact that Daniel had taken Emily to the Smith Villa could easily be

misconstrued as a family introduction.

Knox’s eyes turned cold. Despite knowing York’s words were meant to provoke him, he still felt a pang of discomfort. He glared at York, “Does Daniel know

you’re this loyal?”

York sensed the danger in Knox’s words but remained composed, “Mr. Smith is well aware. Of course, if Mr. Green could put in a good word for me with Mr. Smith, I’d be grateful.”

Knox was surprised by York’s eloquence. He scoffed, ‘I had no idea Daniel’s subordinates were so slick. They say leaders reflect their followers, so Daniel’s cold demeanor must be an act!”

With that, Knox stormed off. After he left, York wiped imaginary sweat from his brow. Knox’s presence was truly intimidating. He quickly messaged Daniel.

York: [Mr. Smith, Mr. Green came looking for you, but since you weren’t here, he left. I saw him coming from Ms. Johnson’s villa. He probably went there first and, not finding her, decided to come here.] ·

Chapter 214

Daniel was sitting quietly in the cat with Emily. They weren’t speaking, but the atmosphere was warm and harmonious. The morning sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a divine glow on their faces. In the enclosed space, Daniel breathed in Emily’s faint scent, feeling refreshed.

A sudden phone vibration snapped him back to reality. Daniel frowned slightly, annoyed at the interruption, hoping it was something important. Reading York’s messages, his mood darkened. He had anticipated Knox’s quick actions and was glad he had taken Emily away in advance. York’s second message described Knox’s reaction to hearing Emily had gone to the Smith Villa with Daniel.

Feeling relieved, Daniel replied: [Good job, double salary this month!]

Putting away his phone, Daniel pondered how to bring up Knox to learn about their relationship. Just then, Emily’s phone rang. Daniel’s words were cut off

as he saw the caller ID: Knox!

His eyes flashed coldly. Knox was persistent, calling even after knowing Emily might be meeting Daniel’s family. What did he want?

Emily, unaware of Daniel’s thoughts, answered the call naturally. “Hey, Knox, what’s up?”

“Emily, I went to see you today but missed you. I wanted to take you to see something interesting. It’s a shame we missed it!” Knox’s voice carried a hint of regret and longing.

Emily was surprised, “You went to see me? Where? What did you want to show me?”

“Your place!” Knox replied nonchalantly. “Don’t ask how I found your address. You know my skills. It was easy! It’s just a pity you weren’t home for my first

visit.”

Trusting Knox, Emily wasn’t upset. “Sorry, I had something to do today. Why didn’t you call me first? What was it you wanted to show me?”

“It was something you’d find interesting. Are you free later? I could pick you up after you’re done,” Knox suggested, trying to gauge how long she’d be at the

Smith Villa.

Daniel, overhearing parts of the conversation, faked a cough and said to Emily, “We’re almost there.”

Emily, considering consulting Daniel about whether she should go see what Knox wanted to show her, met his gaze and felt it might not be appropriate. She apologized to Knox, “I don’t think I’ll have time today. You can tell me about it later.”
