Chapter 234

“What the hell is going on here?”

Emily recognized Hayden’s voice as she kicked the door open.

Hearing the door being kicked in, Hayden instinctively crouched in the corner, covering his head and trembling.

Emily couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle at the sight.

Expecting pain that never came, Hayden heard a familiar voice instead.

Finally, mustering the courage to look up, Hayden saw Emily’s face clearly for the first time.

He jumped up and grabbed Emily. “You’re here to take me back, right? Who’s this person? Are they with you? Can you control your people? I knew I couldn’t expect too much from you.”

Hayden, who had always been used to venting his emotions on Emily, finally escaped his cage and immediately unleashed

his pent-up frustration on her.

Emily was no longer the person who craved family affection. She naturally wouldn’t tolerate this.

Emily slapped Hayden across the face. “You awake now?”

“Emily, you bit…”

Emily slapped him again. “You awake now?”

Fuming with anger, Hayden still hadn’t grasped the reality of the situation and began to curse, “How dare you hit…”

Emily slapped him once more.

Hayden opened his mouth to speak, but Emily raised her hand again.

This time, he quickly covered his face and shut up.

Emily looked at Hayden with a mocking expression, sneering, “Idiot, you still don’t get it, do you? Do you think you’d be

safe here if I didn’t intervene? You’re worth a hundred million dollars, what do you think?”

Hayden was seething with anger but didn’t dare to voice it.

He could only suppress his fury and replied as calmly as possible, “Since you’re here to save me, after all that effort, there’s

no way you wouldn’t take me back. And I don’t believe you’d save me out of the goodness of your heart. You must have

gotten something out of it, right? Otherwise, you wouldn’t know that someone was offering a hundred million dollars

  1. Did you ask Mom and Dad for that money? You’re so greedy!”

“A hundred million dollars? If the Johnson family could actually come up with that, do you think I’d be the one here? And

if the Johnson family did offer a hundred million, do you think the people in the compound wouldn’t raise the price to two

hundred million, or even more? You’ve been in the compound, how can you still be so naive?”

Emily looked at Hayden as if he were an idiot.

Hayden couldn’t stand the look in her eyes, or perhaps he couldn’t accept that his own family would rather let him suffer than gamble a hundred million dollars on the compound’s goodwill.

He might be the one abandoned.

Although Emily was shorter than Hayden, the natural aura she exuded made her seem superior as she looked down on

him.

“Of course, the Johnson family didn’t completely abandon you. They asked everyone for help, but when that didn’t work,

they offered me twenty percent of the company and ten million dollars. I signed the contract and agreed to save you.”

Emily looked at Hayden indifferently. “If you want to live, you’d better follow the plan and behave!”

Hayden seemed to regain some confidence.

Hearing that Emily was indeed doing this for money, he became more assertive, seemingly forgetting the slaps from

earlier.

He held his head high, looking at Emily with disdain despite his swollen face. “You’re doing this for money, and you dare

treat me like this? I’m your brother. You only saved me for money. How ungrateful! Now, I want a bath, the best food, and

a doctor to check my injuries. You have to meet all my demands!”

“Are you out of your mind?”

Zander, who had been silent until now, finally snapped. He didn’t know the whole story, but Hayden’s attitude was enough

to set him off. “Emily risked her life to save you. Without her, those shares and ten million dollars wouldn’t have bought

your life. What are you so proud of?”

“If she wants the money, risking her life is part of the deal. If my family had hired mercenaries or bodyguards, I wouldn’t

be in such a miserable state!”

Hayden’s arrogance was palpable.

Emily’s lips curled into a smile.

She turned to Zander. Since he thinks that way, let’s go. We don’t need to waste our time on him.”

Emily motioned for Zander to follow her and turned to leave.

Hayden was left dumbfounded.

He knew that as long as he was still in this place and hadn’t boarded a plane back home, he could be captured again at any

moment.

Finally, he felt the urgency.

“Emily, stop! You can’t leave. You took the money for this job. If you don’t deliver, Mom, Dad, and Aiden won’t let you off.”

Emily paused, turning back with a cold, sharp gaze. “Still daring to threaten me? I forgot to tell you, the contract states.

that the money and shares are only transferred once I save you. I haven’t received a dime yet, so I can quit anytime. What

are you going to do about it?”

Hayden’s face turned sour at her words.

Emily continued, “Do you think anyone else would save you? The Johnson family? Or your precious Bianca? Don’t be naive.

The compound gave the Johnson family three days. On the first day, I said I could save you if they gave me twenty percent

of the shares. Guess what happened?”

Hayden shook his head, muttering in disbelief.

Emily enjoyed watching his firm beliefs crumble, just like her own past experience. “No one was willing to give up shares.

to save you. So they dragged it out until the last day, trying to use public opinion to force me to save you. I turned the

tables on them, and they finally agreed to give me the shares under public pressure.”

“You’re lying. That’s impossible. You just can’t stand to see our family united. You’re trying to drive a wedge between us. I

won’t fall for it!”

Emily waved her hand dismissively. “Believe what you want. My patience is limited. I’ll ask you one last time. Will you

follow the plan or not? If not, I won’t bother saving you.”

She was starting to regret saving him.

Although twenty percent of the shares and ten million dollars were a lot, it almost cost Daniel his life.

And she owed Knox a favor, too.

It was a huge loss!

Just thinking about the torment he endured in the compound and the painful cries he heard every day, Hayden shivered.

He had no courage to go back there.

At worst, he’d deal with Emily’s attitude when they got back.

He’d make sure she regretted treating him this way.

And Emily could forget about earning any respect from him or the family.

“I’ll behave.”

He lowered his head and replied sulkily.

Emily could tell he was unwilling, so to prevent any trouble, she gave him a sedative before they left.

Hayden glared at Emily with fiery eyes, silently protesting.

“What are you staring at? Let’s go!”

Emily checked the time; there wasn’t much left of the thirty minutes.
