Mama, it’s me. Urbi ran towards the fire, and her mother followed us.

Why are you here? She glared at me. I’ve allowed no one but my family into my sanctuary. She turned on her daughter with a growl. Why did you bring her here?

I’m here to save you. I climbed down from Urbis back. Will you allow me to? I held out my hand and waited.

She glared for another moment then walked over, sinking into the sand next to me. What do you need?

I just need to touch you. She nodded once, and I placed my hand on her leg, where she was hurt. I sent a call to Megan, and I felt power rush through me, through Toya, and into her mother. She growled, but quieted as she felt the power rush through her.

What is that? Her eyes grew wide as she turned to me.

Magic. Not healing per se, but extra power. You can direct it to do what you need. You know your body better than I do.

She shuddered, and I felt her skin jumping under my hand, the power making the muscles dance. I can use magic? She sounded breathless and confused.

Sort of. I chuckled. Close your eyes. She turned to me with guarded eyes, earning a chuckle from Urbi.

Trust her Mama. She did the same with me. That’s how I trained so much during university. I could still see she wasn’t trusting, so I asked a question.

What’s your name?

She hesitated for another moment before she answered. Femi. My name is Femi.

I nodded. Well, Femi, we are under attack, and right now my Lycan and your mate are watching over us, but we are still sitting ducks. You and I both know your daughter and your mate will fight to the very end to protect you, but we still don’t know where your son is. I saw her eyes tighten. I am already here, and I haven’t hurt you. I am your daughter’s best friend and have no wish to harm you. Can you put aside your wariness for the moment so we can get you up and moving so we can find the rest of our people?

She considered me for another moment before she nodded and finally closed her eyes. What do I need to do?

Focus on the influx of power rushing through your body. You feel full, right? She nodded. Now push it towards your leg. Your body will know what to do once it knows your intention. Your healing is already drawing power from your reservoir; adding more power to it will speed it up.

She breathed out, and I could feel the pull. She was pushing all the extra power I was pushing into her and pushing it towards the broken bone. Like this?

Exactly. I smiled. Tell me when you are healed. I can’t feel it, and I don’t know when to stop. If I push too much into you, you might get burned out.

Burn out? She cracked an eye, but before I could answer, Urbi laughed.

Yeah. The first few times, we didn’t know what we were doing. We took too much power, and overhealed our

bodies. It causes stiffness and sometimes knocks you out. But after you sleep, you are fine.

But we don’t have time for a nap. So, please pay attention. We are aiming to be almost fully healed. Like eighty to eightyfive percent. That way, your body will use the leftover power to finish, but you won’t get overloaded.

Femi nodded and focused on her body as I pushed more power into her. We waited for another minute before her eyes opened. That’s enough.

I pulled back my hand, shutting off the power, and I shook my hand. The numbness that came from power coursing through it was always a little uncomfortable. But it would fade. Time to go back. I smiled at Urbi as she crouched down so I could climb up.

Femi stood and shook her leg. This isamazing.

Urbi nodded. It’s weird too. She laughed when I hit her shoulder. What? You know I’m telling the truth.

I laughed with her. Let’s go. We have to find everyone, and I don’t know how long we have been here.

Urbi walked over and nudged her mother’s neck. See you soon. Then she turned and ran back the way we had

come.

I looked

up one last time to see the stars. I wish this were real.

Urbi looked up. The sky?

I nodded and realized she couldn’t see me. Yeah.

=

Urbi snorted. It is real. My mom was born in Egypt over a hundred years ago. This place, her oasis, was somewhere she used to go to get water. She brought me and my brother here when we were teens. It’s settled nowbut no less beautiful.

I think once this is all over, I would really like to see it in person.

Urbi stumbled over her feet. Really?

Yes, I looked back as the sky turned bright. Even in the daytime, the dunes were stunning. You are my best friend; I want to see where you come from.

I felt her joy at my woods. Well then. Let’s get through this bullshit, and then I would love to take you here. 1
