Seeing how serious she looked, Lucas suddenly wondered if he had said too much too soon. 

“Do you really want to know?” he asked. 

“Of course I do,” Aurora replied firmly. “Are you still planning to hide things from me? After everything we’ve been through, how much longer do you intend to keep secrets?” 

Her words left Lucas helpless. She was right, they’d already been through so much together. What was left that she shouldn’t know? 

He sighed, sat up, and drew her close, letting her rest against his shoulder. Then, slowly, he began to recall the first time he saw her again. 

“I knew you were coming back from Westbridge. You were chasing Joseph then, and when he broke your heart, you decided to return.” 

“You even knew about that?” Aurora’s eyes widened in surprise. She had always thought only her family knew those details. 

She hadn’t expected Lucas to recount them so precisely. The thought unsettled her. 

“Of course I knew,” he said simply. “I’ve been keeping an eye on you all along.” 

“Wait… so, you’ve known who I was since high school?” 

Lucas gave her a small smile. “You really underestimate me. I started liking you back then. Of course I had to keep track of the person I liked.” 

Aurora realized how foolish her question sounded and gave a faint, embarrassed laugh. 

“Then what about you and Megan? Were you two working together?” 

“That part, no,” he said, shaking his head. 

Speaking of it, Lucas couldn’t help but find the whole thing a bit unbelievable. 

“At the time, neither of us knew we had a mutual friend. When Megan first mentioned introducing someone to me, I wasn’t too keen on the idea. But the moment I found out that person was you, I just…” 

He didn’t finish the sentence, but Aurora already understood. A faint smile tugged at her lips, filled with quiet emotion. 

“I never thought fate could play such tricks on people.” 

Lucas gently shook his head. “No, it wasn’t fate playing tricks—it was fate taking mercy on me.” 

His eyes softened, warm enough to melt her guard.

“I’m only telling the truth,” he said with a helpless smile, watching her retreat. A hint of reluctance flickered in his eyes.
