When Cassian said hi to Gideon, Aurelia was standing right next to Gideon, 

Aurelia couldn’t help but feel guilty. She unconsciously gripped Gideon’s arm and didn’t have the guts to look Cassian in the eye. Soon, she found that she had overreacted. 

The reason was that Cassian didn’t spare a single look at Aurelia as if he didn’t care whose date she was. After the greeting to Gideon, Cassian went off to find Tessa. 

Aurelia was mad at herself for being swayed by Cassian. Then, she soothed herself that it took time to move on. “Take it slow. So far, you did well, Aurelia,‘ she thought.

Thanks to Cassian, Tessa found her confidence back. Throughout the party, she held tight to his arm. 

Cassian was of high status in the upper class. As an upstart financier, he was highly sought after whenever he 

went. 

With Cassian by her side, Tessa received a lot of attention. 

As Aurelia stepped out of the restroom, she heard people gossip about Tessa. 

“Who’s Miss Rowe next to Cassian? It seems he is very protective of her. They seem intimate.” 

“Don’t you know that? She is probably his match. She is Daniel’s daughter.” 

A gossiper who knew Daniel and had heard the inside story said, “Daniel is doing quite well in recent years, but the Rowe family is still far inferior to the Locke family, isn’t it?” 

Daniel didn’t get transferred back to Ashmont till one year ago. He had worked in other cities for many years. By the way, he didn’t get promoted in this transfer. 

Daniel was somebody to the man in the street, but not to the four hundred. 

“Cassian plays the role of the Knight and personally does the introduction for Daniel’s daughter. All his behaviors indicate that he is serious about this relationship and that he doesn’t consider her as a plaything.” 

“We’d better hang out with Mr. Rowe more often.” 

The Rowe family would become a highflier once Cassian had its back. 

The snobs had better fawn on the Rowe family before it was too late. 

Then, the gossipers hurried off to cozy up to Cassian and Tessa. As for Aurelia, she stood rooted to the spot for a long time. 

She couldn’t help but recall that conversation she’d overheard outside the private room.

Back then, Jasper had said, “Keep her as your mistress if you like her that much.”

Aurelia thought, “To Cassian, am I just a plaything? Does he refuse to approve my resignation because he isn’t tired of me yet? 

‘As Jasper suggested, after he gets married to another woman, he can keep me as his mistress and toy with me as always. 

This thought sent a chill down her spine, and the past seven years became a joke to her. 

“Aurelia! There you are!” Jessica popped up and pulled Aurelia back to earth. 

“Ms. Lane,” Aurelia greeted. 

“Why are your hands so cold?” Jessica was aghast at Aurelia’s cold hand. 

“Probably because I just came into the room from outside.” Aurelia quickly made up an excuse. 

Jessica then pulled Aurelia to a warm corner and did some catching up. 

On the news that Aurelia couldn’t leave Honoria Capital yet, Jessica knitted her eyebrows. “What is Cassian up to? He doesn’t give you what you deserve, and he refuses to let you go. It is despicable, isn’t it?” 

Aurelia was tired of that mess, so she steered the conversation towards the AI project instead. 

Jessica showed interest in the new topic and had a long chat about it with Aurelia. 

Besides Tyson, Aurelia knew the AI project best because she had worked on it from the very beginning. Her analysis and opinion were professional. 

Jessica couldn’t help but ask, “Did you major in computer science or something like that back in college?” 

Aurelia shook her head. 

“I thought so because you sound like an expert in the field,” Jessica explained. 

“Before I begin a new project, I have a comprehensive investigation and thorough analysis of it. Therefore, I know my project better than others. Even so, I am still an amateur, not an expert,” Aurelia said. 

Jessica liked Aurelia, and she was now impressed by Aurelia’s professional attitude. Without hesitation, she said, “I am in!” 

“I haven’t told you the details yet…” Aurelia said, a bit taken aback. 

“You don’t have to. I have full faith in you.” Jessica unconditionally trusted Aurelia. 

Aurelia felt very grateful. “Thank you so much. Let’s find a time to go into details.” 

“Okay. I will spend this whole week in Ashmont. Call me when you are ready,” Jessica responded. 

When Aurelia intended to clink glasses with Jessica, a sharp and sarcastic voice came from behind.

Jasper said, “What an ingrate! What a traitor!” 

“Hey, you might misunderstand Ms. Corin.” It sounded like Tessa was speaking up for Aurelia. 

In fact, she helped complete the accusations because Jasper didn’t mention Aurelia by name at all. 

“No misunderstanding. She is still a worker at Honoria Capital, but she began to help others find investors. It is possible that she had a lot of rat trading. I will advise Cassian to start a thorough investigation,” Jasper said indignantly. 

Tessa worriedly looked at Aurelia. “Ms. Corin, since you haven’t left Honoria Capital yet, I think an explanation to Cassian is necessary.” 

Before Aurelia opened her mouth, Cassian arrived. 

“What explanation?” Cassian shot a cold glance at Aurelia when he walked up to Tessa and Jasper. 

Tessa responded, “Jasper overheard Ms. Corin discuss a project with others, so he reminded her that it was inappropriate for her to do so since she still works at Honoria Capital. Honoria Capital will suffer a loss if any of its confidential projects get leaked.” 

Cassian said nothing, but his slightly narrowed eyes showed that he was angry. 

Jessica felt sorry for Aurelia, and she was ready to speak up for Aurelia. 

Aurelia gave Jessica’s hand a pat and calmly said, “Ms. Rowe, don’t worry. The project I discussed with Ms. Lane was the one you had vetoed. I felt sorry for the project owner, so I tried to find new investors for him. No conflict of interest, and nothing inappropriate.” 

Then, she shifted her gaze to Cassian and looked him in the eye fearlessly. 

She said, “I have worked in Honoria Capital for years. Nobody knows me better than you, Mr. Locke. If you lack confidence in me, why don’t you approve my resignation right away? At least, Ms. Rowe won’t be in a state of anxiety anymore.” 

Jasper was surprised that Aurelia had a showdown with Cassian in public. ‘It is unprecedented,‘ he thought. 

He liked to jab at Aurelia, but he was lost for words at that moment. 

Even Tessa didn’t know what to say. She aimed to make Cassian hate Aurelia, and she never expected Aurelia to be so decisive and fearless. 

The atmosphere became awkward. 

When Aurelia thought that her request would be ignored as before, Cassian said, “Fine, go through the resignation process on Monday.”
