At the same time, he jeered at Aurelia. “Can’t judge a book by its cover. You pretend to be decent before Cassian and are wanton in private. I really underestimated you.” 

“Cassian, sorry that I told Jasper the wrong number, so I hurried here.” Tessa’s voice came from behind. 

How interesting! It seemed Cassian had come to find Tessa but accidentally barged into the room where Aurelia was. 

Jasper asked, “Not Room 9208?” 

Tessa replied, “No, it’s Room 8926.” 

9208 and 8926 were way off, and the two rooms weren’t on the same floor. 

Yet, Tessa had mixed them up. At that moment, her educational history as a PhD in economics from a prestigious business school became dubious. 

“Oh, Ms. Corin,” Tessa exclaimed with surprise as if she had just noticed Aurelia. “I didn’t know that you are here.” 

Then, her eyes swept around the room. Obviously, she came to cause trouble, deliberately. 

That was why she had given Jasper the wrong number. She had deliberately led Cassian over to catch Aurelia in the act. How scheming! 

“We… Are we disturbing you, Ms. Corin?” Tessa sounded apologetic, but the smug look on her face betrayed 

her. 

Cassian remained silent and kept a distance from Aurelia. His eyes were so deep that nobody could tell anything from them. 

His lips were pressed into a thin line, and his jaw clenched up. 

The atmosphere in the room became so intense that even Jasper forgot to ridicule Aurelia. 

Jessica, ever perceptive, quickly picked up on the tension and intended to explain for Aurelia. 

However, Aurelia opened her mouth before Jessica did, and her tone was steady and calm. 

She turned her head to her left and looked at the man who looked a bit like Cassian. “How much will you charge if I spend the night with you?” 

Thinking that Aurelia would become his patroness that night, the man became professional and replied, “1333 dollars, and I can give you a discount.”

Her gaze shifted to Cassian standing at the doorway. She locked eyes with him for two seconds and then said slowly and clearly, “Besides, sleeping with the real deal never costs me a penny. It’s always on the house” 

Then, silence fell. After a while, Aurelia peacefully said goodbye to Jessica and left. 

‘Doesn’t Jasper see me as a freebie? I now let him know who the hell is the freebie, she thought. 

After Aurelia left, Cassian looked formidable with his deep eyes half–narrowed. 

Restless, Jasper murmured, “Cassian…” 

“Do you have to mess with her?” Angry, Cassian then strode away. 

“Cassian.” Tessa was unhappy, but she still caught up with Cassian. “Mr. Kim has been waiting. He is still here because I said that you were coming.” 

Tessa was afraid that Cassian would refuse to go see Gilbert Kim with her. Fortunately, Cassian didn’t change his plan because of the hiccup. 

After the meeting with Jessica, Aurelia dug into the Synerda Group the very next day. 

As Jessica had said, something was seriously off. Several projects had been shut down, but the Synerda Group still displayed their earnings numbers. What a scam! 

It was common for capital firms to cook the books, but in private. Such a bold move indicated that the Synerda Group had serious financial problems. 

Aurelia had no choice but to give up the offer from the Synerda Group. 

Right then, Sean called Aurelia and asked when she could start to work. She brushed him off with an excuse. 

Sean clearly had other intentions. He didn’t care whether Aurelia would join the Synerda Group or not, and he began to inquire about Honoria Capital. 

Aurelia was now clear that Sean was interested in her because of Honoria Capital and Cassian. 

“Each member of the Synerda Group has their KPI. Ms. Corin, how many projects will you bring to the Synerda Group?” Sean asked. 

“Sorry, Mr. Parker, I signed the noncompete agreements with Honoria Capital,” Aurelia responded. 

Sean said, “I understand. I know the rules. I mean, Honoria Capital is a giant, so it must have plenty of projects. To a small company like the Synerda Group, it can survive with the leftovers that Honoria Capital doesn’t want. 

“It will save us a lot of trouble, won’t it?” Sean became candid. “Given your relationship with Mr. Locke, I believe that he will turn a blind eye if you bring several projects over. Men won’t be hard on their old lovers.”

In the next few days, Aurelia talked with the other companies which had shown interest in her and found that they had the same intention as Sean. Every single one of them was only interested in Honoria Capital, 

Aurelia had to lower the bar and reach out to small capital firms and investment banks. 

She didn’t have a fancy educational history, but her track record was impressive. At first, she got positive feedback from several companies. 

Later, they changed their attitudes abruptly and said that she wasn’t the person they were looking for. 

The thing was Aurelia had laid all her cards on the table from the very beginning. 

Because Aurelia persisted, an HR manager who liked her very much subtly hinted that her background investigation was the problem. 

In other words, Aurelia couldn’t get a new job because Honoria Capital threw dirt at her. 

She couldn’t help but recall what Cassian had said, “Without my permission, who dares to hire you in Ashmont?” 

‘So, Cassian is the troublemaker,‘ she thought. 

Tears were interesting. One could hold his tears back when he was wounded or tired, but not when aggrieved. 

In the crowded street, Aurelia turned red in the eye. Right then, her phone buzzed. It was a call from Mia. 

In the past two months, Mia had been busy with fashion shows abroad, so she didn’t have the time for Aurelia. 

When the rare break in her schedule came, she flew back to Ashmont and called Aurelia. 

Hearing Mia’s voice, Aurelia couldn’t help but break down in tears over the phone. 

“Is it about Cassian? I’m gonna go kick his ass right now!” Mia yelled. 

Before Aurelia explained, Mia already figured out the reason for her tears. 

“Are you a psychic or something? How did you know that?” Aurelia asked. 

“Only he can break your heart,” Mia responded. 

Aurelia paused as she felt a surge of sour feelings. “So obvious?” 

Mia sighed as she truly felt sorry for Aurelia. Then, she said softly, “Yeah.”
