Chapter 51 

With an apologetic smile, Aurelia sent the cops off. She then turned to the troublemaker and yelled, “Why did you come?” Her expression was cold, and so was her tone. 

Cassian didn’t like such an apathetic Aurelia. He irritatedly tugged at his collar. His neck was already red. It was an allergic reaction. 

Only then did Aurelia realize that Cassian was completely drunk. 

They had known each other for seven years, but she had never seen him drunk like this before. 

Therefore, she didn’t know that he would become troublesome after he was drunk. 

Fuming with rage, Aurelia pulled a long face. 

As for Cassian, he ordered Aurelia around as always. “Got any allergy medicine here?” 

“No!” Aurelia snapped. ‘Does he see my place as a drugstore?‘ she thought. 

“Get me some hot water then.” Cassian rubbed his brows with conspicuous irritation all over his face. 

“Mr. Locke, you do have a selective memory. Please allow me to remind you that I am not your secretary anymore.” 

Cassian didn’t like the edgy Aurelia, so he scolded with his deep voice, “How long’s this gonna go on?” 

Aurelia didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. 

‘How ridiculous! Even now, he still thinks that I am throwing a tantrum. Sorry. I don’t have time for that,‘ she thought. 

“I have said and done what I should. Mr. Locke, take your time and think about it,” Aurelia said. 

With a grim expression, Cassian looked intimidating. He sinisterly chuckled. “You have hooked up with Gideon, so you don’t bother to pretend before me anymore, do you?” 

He took one step forward. His expression was cold as he jeered, “Aurelia, have you forgotten how you groveled before me?” 

‘See? Even now, he still sees me as a pet at his mercy, Aurelia thought bitterly. 

She was a human being, and she refused to be Cassian’s pet. “You used the past tense, didn’t you? Cassian, people change, and so do you.” Her voice suddenly became so soft and low that it sounded like a whisper. 

“Do you intend to fawn on Gideon as you did me?” Cassian didn’t bother to conceal his contempt. 

This time, Aurelia didn’t feel hurt by Cassian’s sarcasm. It wasn’t the first time Cassian demeaned Aurelia like this. 

Chapter 51 

Aurelia didn’t waste her breath on any explanation. “Believe whatever you want,” she replied, her voice indifferent. 

It was easy to solve the problem as long as she didn’t mind being the bad woman, 

She didn’t show Cassian the door, and the latter left without looking back. By the way, Cassian slammed the door behind him. 

Aurelia didn’t get distressed by this hiccup, and she slept on. 

The next morning, she took her rubbish to the bin. Again, she heard the janitor curse in the stairwell. 

“Who the hell is the rascal? So many cigarette butts here,” the janitor complained. 

On her way back to her place, Aurelia got a call from Miranda. 

Over the phone, Miranda sounded breathless and worried. “Aurelia, did you catch the news?” 

“What news?” Aurelia asked. 

After a moment of silence, Miranda asked, “Don’t you know yet? Check your phone, quick.” 

Aurelia hung up the phone and then received the chats from Miranda. She scanned all the messages and then 

got angry. 

Someone spread rumors about Aurelia in the financial circles of Ashmont. 

Rumor had it that Aurelia had hooked up with Gideon, quit her job at Honoria Capital, and intended to join Gold Gauntlet. In those rumors, Aurelia was described as a gold digger. 

To make things worse, Aurelia was said to choose Gideon as her new target because she had failed to force Cassian into marriage. In short, Aurelia was said to be a bad woman. 

Miranda: [These people have gone too far. They turn black into white. I tried to friend the rumormonger on WhatsApp but failed. If I succeeded, I would give her a good lesson.] 

Aurelia: [You don’t have to. It’s pointless.] 

Aurelia put away her phone, and her mood was heavy. 

She had been ridiculed by Cassian last night, and there were rumors. Therefore, it was reasonable for her to connect the two things together. 

‘If Cassian were the boss behind the scenes, my seven years of devotion would become a joke,’ she thought. 

Before Aurelia asked Cassian about the rumors, there came Gideon’s call. 

‘It must be a call about the rumors online, Aurelia thought. She was right. Gideon had made this call because 

of the rumors online. 

“I will solve the problem. Leave it to me.” Gideon cut to the chase after Aurelia answered the call. “I punished

two corrupt shareholders after I took office. They hate me, so they deliberately spread rumors online.” 

“I see,” Aurelia responded. 

“I didn’t know that you would get implicated. Sorry.” 

“I am fine.” Aurelia didn’t sound worried at all. All these years, she had been through a lot, including absurd 

rumors. 

To get projects for Honoria Capital, she had brought herself many enemies. 

Those people couldn’t get the projects away from Aurelia, so they slandered her to vent their anger. 

They said that Aurelia was a secretary in the daytime and Cassian’s bedfellow at night. 

Their words were harsh, and the sex rumor was the most harmless one. At first, Aurelia had felt sad. 

Cassian heard of those rumors, but he never spoke up for Aurelia. 

Red–eyed, Aurelia had complained to Cassian. Till now, she still remembered his response. 

He said, “Be a secretary forever if you don’t have a strong heart.” How ruthless! 

It was alright for Cassian to say so as a boss. Aurelia felt aggrieved because Cassian was more than a boss to her. 

Recalling Cassian’s words, Aurelia couldn’t agree more. 

Aurelia sounded calm, so Gideon relaxed and said, “According to my original plan, you would have a job interview at Gold Gauntlet today. I don’t think it’s the best time for us now. Let’s talk after the situation is defused.” 

“Didn’t you tell me to think about your offer? I have the answer now,” Aurelia said. “I won’t join Gold Gauntlet.” 

Aurelia waited another three days, but not one interview call came in. 

Her resumes were sent, and she got no response, negative or positive. 

“There is only one possible explanation for my situation, and that is Cassian does spare no effort to force me out of Ashmont. Perhaps he played a role in the rumors about me and Gold Gauntlet, Aurelia thought. 

She was angry, but there was nothing she could do. 

Since she couldn’t find herself a job, she had to choose another path. It was time to start her own business. What a challenge! 

Because of the economic headwinds, many entrepreneurs with the right connections and resources ended up with failure. 

Chapter 51

Aurelia wasn’t sure if she could be one of the lucky survivors. With hesitation, she checked over her assets. 

Truth be told, Cassian had been quite generous to Aurelia when it came to the pay package. 

Coupled with the bonus from the projects and the profit from the stock market, Aurelia now had more than three million dollars. 

‘Not a small sum of money, but not for starting a new business, especially not for costly AI projects which feature high research spending and a long timeline,‘ she thought. 

Aurelia wanted a talk with Tyson first. ‘At least, let him know the truth,’ she thought. 

Tyson had been waiting for Aurelia’s call. Soon, a good restaurant had been chosen for the meeting. 

Just as Aurelia reached the entrance of the restaurant, she saw Cassian and Tessa walking ahead, side by side. Cassian and Tessa walked and chatted. Most of the time, Tessa did the talking. “My parents are already here,” she said. 

Aurelia stopped in her tracks and wondered, ‘Is Cassian here to meet Tessa’s parents? So soon?‘
