Chapter 55Â
Chapter 55Â
Just after Aurelia sent the message, someone tagged her in a group chat.Â
Her finger brushed against the notification by accident, opening the group. She then realized it was from Honoria Capital team–building group she’d forgotten to leave.Â
The message came from Nadia, who had tagged everyone in the chat.Â
Her excitement was practically jumping off the screen.Â
Nadia: [You guys won’t believe who I ran into in Bustead–Mr. Locke and Ms. Rowe! They came here just to see the first snow! How romantic is that?]Â
Someone: [For real? Mr. Locke and Ms. Rowe are such a great couple!]Â
Another person: [I read online that when a man invites a woman to watch the first snow of the season, it’s basically a love confession. So, is Mr. Locke confessing to Ms. Rowe?]Â
Someone else: [Congratulations!]Â
Another person: [Wishing you everlasting love!]Â
Everyone in the group started sending their blessings.Â
Tessa, after being tagged, politely responded with a brief message: [Thanks.]Â
Then she shared a photo she’d just taken of the first snow.Â
In the top right corner of the picture was a familiar figure, head lowered, looking at his phone. The glow of the screen faintly lit up the sharp features of the man’s face.Â
It was none other than Cassian.Â
‘Wait, does this mean they’re officially a couple now?‘ Aurelia thought to herself.Â
It came sooner than Aurelia had expected, but it wasn’t exactly a surprise.Â
After all, they’d already met each other’s parents. Making it official was only a matter of time.Â
The group was still busy sending messages of congratulations when Aurelia quietly left the chat.Â
She reopened her chat with Cassian and deleted the message she had just sent.Â
There was no response from him. Maybe he was busy.Â
But Aurelia couldn’t help feeling like he was just straight up ignoring her. It wasn’t like this was the first time he’d done it.Â
‘When did things start to change between us?‘ Aurelia wondered, her mind drifting back.Â
Chapter 55Â
It was about a year ago that Cassian started acting differently.Â
He used to always take Aurelia along for business trips since she was his secretary. But somewhere along the way, he started flying solo, heading overseas on his own.Â
Now that she thought about it, maybe he was just using those trips as an excuse to meet up with Tessa.Â
Therefore, leaving her behind actually made perfect sense.Â
But back then, Aurelia really had no clue. She was convinced he was just busy preparing the subsidiary to go public.Â
She had always tried to make his life easier, prepping everything for his trips and making sure he had everything he could need.Â
She would also remind him about all the little things and even look up all the restaurants that suited his tastes ahead of time.Â
Cassian’s attitude back then had already grown distant, and whenever he looked at her, it was like he was wrestling with something in his head.Â
Maybe he’d already decided to end things, but he didn’t want to be the bad guy in all this, so he started shutting her out instead.Â
And Aurelia was too blind to see all this back then.Â
Aurelia didn’t let it bother her at all. She went to bed on time, determined to get a good rest and be ready for the next day.Â
When she woke up in the morning, she was full of energy again.Â
Mila texted her on WhatsApp: [Hey, are you going to visit Tyson today?]Â
Aurelia replied: [Yeah, I am.]Â
Mila typed: [Then I’ll leave my brother to you. I won’t come along and play third wheel.]Â
Aurelia could only smile helplessly and didn’t reply further.Â
She understood perfectly well what Mila was up to.Â
However, she had just ended a seven–year relationship and was still emotionally exhausted. Starting something new was the last thing on her mind.Â
Still, Mila meant well, and Aurelia didn’t want to rain on her parade.Â
As she exited the app, her gaze landed on her chat with Cassian.Â
There was still no reply.Â
Aurelia quickly removed his name from her recent chats before heading out to continue finding investors.Â
She visited two companies that morning but came up empty–handed.Â
At noon, she bought some food and went to the hospital to check on Tyson, only to find him working even with an IV drip in his arm.Â
He was so absorbed in his work that he hadn’t noticed the IV bag was empty and blood had started flowing back into the tube.Â
Aurelia hurried over to help, replaced the IV bag, and let the air out of the line with practiced ease.Â
Tyson couldn’t help but ask curiously, “How do you even know how to do that?”Â
“My mom’s not in good health. I learned from taking care of her,” said Aurelia.Â
Tyson nodded but didn’t know how to continue the conversation.Â
He was a tech geek, not great at socializing, and even worse when it came to talking to women.Â
Mila knew this and had been coaching him on how to pursue a girl, giving him all sorts of advice and tricks. But Tyson never knew how to apply any of it.Â
Looking Aurelia, he thought about a dozen things to say, but when he finally spoke, it came out as, “How’s everything going today?”Â
“It’s okay. I’ve got two more companies to visit this afternoon,” Aurelia replied casually.Â
Tyson noticed the back of her heel was rubbed raw from her high heels.Â
He immediately pressed the call button for a nurse and asked for some ointment.Â
Aurelia thought he was hurt and was about to ask what happened.Â
But Tyson just handed her the ointment and gestured toward her heel, suggesting she should tend to it.Â
Aurelia hadn’t even realized it was injured–her mind had been entirely on the project.Â
“Do you always have to wear high heels? Wouldn’t it be better to wear something comfortable?” Tyson asked, a bit puzzled.Â
“Maintaining a professional image helps build trust with clients,” Aurelia replied.Â
Tyson looked thoughtful and said, “I see.”Â
Actually, a few other investment firms had reached out to Tyson lately, but he’d turned them all down.Â
Seeing how hard Aurelia was working, he started wondering if he should contact them again.Â
So as soon as Aurelia left, he began calling around.Â
The companies were still interested in his project, but when they heard he already had a seed investor, they all politely backed down.Â
Chapter 55Â
In this kind of deal, joining late meant smaller shares and higher risk. Unless a major investor came in during the angel round, no one wanted to follow.Â
That was exactly why Aurelia kept getting rejections lately.Â
Even though life was throwing punches, Aurelia still managed to keep her head up.Â
Years of pitching projects had built up her resilience.Â
When she first started managing projects, Cassian had been the one training her strictly, with high expectations.Â
If she ever made a mistake, he would criticize her bluntly and forbid her from repeating it.Â
Under that kind of pressure, Aurelia improved quickly and became tough enough to handle setbacks.Â
So now, situations like this barely affect her. She wasn’t the kind to be defeated.Â
Looking back, Aurelia used to think Cassian was simply trying to train her up, prepping her to handle projects independently.Â
But seeing how tender he was with Tessa now, Aurelia realized she had been fooling herself.Â
‘So much for all that mentoring. He was perfectly happy to let me fend for myself,‘ Aurelia thought.Â
Only Tessa, his precious dream girl, ever got his affection and special treatment from him.Â
Just when Aurelia thought the day would end without any results, she received a call from Graham of Novalen Capital.Â
He said he was interested in her project and invited her to discuss it at Eden Club.Â
Aurelia checked the time–it was getting late, so she was wondering if he was genuinely serious about her project.Â
But still, she took a cab there.Â
When she arrived, she ran into Jasper at the entrance.Â
The moment he saw her, his face twisted in disgust. “Aurelia, are you some kind of stalker? You found out Cassian’s here and came running again? You’re like gum that won’t come off!”Â
Aurelia froze for a second. ‘Wait, Cassian’s here too?‘ she thought, surprised.Â
