Jasper was still fuming. 

But with Gideon warning him with sharp looks, Jasper could only hold himself back. 

Still, he couldn’t resist casting several vicious glares at Aurelia. 

People were just strange like that. 

She was just treating him the way he treated others, and he actually got upset about it. 

To lighten the mood, Tessa deliberately changed the subject. “Gideon, this potted kumquat tree on your is quite unique. It softens the coldness of the office and adds a touch of warmth and everyday life.”

“Plus, kumquats are a symbol of good luck!” she chimed in. 

Jasper, true to form, jumped in right away. 

“Totally, it caught my eye as soon as I walked in. It’s so elegant,” he added. 

Gideon grinned with genuine appreciation. “Pretty nice, huh?” 

After the two nodded, Gideon finally spoke up, his voice calm and unhurried. “Aurelia gave it to me. It felt special, so I decided to keep it here.” 

The office went dead silent for almost half a minute. 

Tessa shifted gears instantly, leaving the kumquat plant behind as she went straight to business. 

“Gideon, I came by to ask you about the funding,” she said. 

Gideon replied, “You could’ve just had the project manager handle it with the bank reps. You really didn’t have to come all the way here.” 

“I just thought it’d be nice to catch up since we haven’t seen each other in ages. Maybe grab a meal together,” 

Tessa said. 

She paused, shooting Aurelia a quick, almost casual glance before continuing, “Cassian’s coming too.” 

“He was supposed to come with me, but something came up last minute. He said he’d swing by to pick me up once he’s done.” 

Aurelia flipped another page of her finance magazine, looking for all the world like she wasn’t paying any attention to what Tessa was saying. 

Tessa figured Aurelia was just pretending to be calm. 

But truth be told, Aurelia was actually unfazed.

Of course, she’d caught every word out of Tessa’s mouth.

None of it surprised her; if anything, it just answered something she’d been wondering about a moment ago. 

Cassian and Tessa were still as inseparable as before. 

‘Seriously, those two are so clingy, Aurelia thought. 

Gideon glanced at his watch–it was lunchtime for sure. He turned to Aurelia and asked, “Aurelia, wanna join me for lunch?” 

Aurelia shut her magazine, smiled politely, and said, “Let’s do it another day. I already got plans for today, so I should get going.” 

She definitely didn’t want them to ruin her appetite. 

Gideon didn’t push it. “I’ll see you out.” 

“No need, just focus on your work,” Aurelia replied, declining him politely. 

“Alright, let’s grab lunch together next time,” Gideon said. 

As soon as Aurelia walked out, Jasper couldn’t hold it in and ribbed, “Dude, if I were you, I’d keep my distance from Aurelia. That woman is seriously complicated!” 

Gideon was totally ignoring him. Instead, he grabbed a spray bottle and started carefully misting the kumquat plant, acting like Jasper didn’t even exist. 

Jasper was getting desperate. “Gideon! I’m trying to talk to you here! I’m telling you, be careful with Aurelia! She’s not someone to underestimate! You have no idea. Before, to get investment for her lousy project, she willingly drank with those people, clearly trying to use connections to get ahead. She’s filthy!” 

But before he could finish, Gideon raised the spray bottle and spritzed two bursts right at Jasper’s mouth. 

Jasper started spitting and sputtering everywhere. “Dude, what was that for?” 

Gideon smirked, “Just washing out all that trash you keep talking.” 

“Alright, you two, knock it off,” Tessa cut in. “Gideon, word is Gold Gauntlet and Eastview Capital might be teaming up on some tech project. Care to spill some secrets?” 

Honestly, that was exactly why Tessa had shown up at Gold Gauntlet today. 

Gideon paused mid–spray, shooting a sharp, icy glare at Jasper. 

Jasper felt guilty and avoided his gaze. 

“It’s just gossip–don’t waste your energy taking it seriously,” Gideon said, sounding totally nonchalant. 

Tessa caught the hint and backed off without pushing.
