Chapter 65 

She’s in no rush and still had plenty of time. 

Besides, with Jasper as her informant, she didn’t have to worry about missing any important information. 

Just then, Tessa’s phone buzzed–it was Cassian. He was probably already downstairs. 

Tessa called out to the guys, “Cassian’s here. Let’s head down.” 

“You go ahead, I’ll just shut down my computer,” Gideon replied. 

Jasper was about to follow Tessa out, but Gideon stopped him, saying he needed his help with something. 

Jasper looked completely bewildered, thinking to himself. ‘What could I possibly help with?‘ 

As soon as Tessa left, Gideon turned on Jasper and scolded him, “How many times do I have to tell you not to leak company secrets to outsiders? Have you forgotten already?” 

Jasper protested, “Tessa’s not some outsider! We’ve all known each other forever–grew up side by side. She was almost like family, practically part of the Quinn family! How can you call her an outsider?” 

“You’re really overthinking this,” Gideon replied coolly. 

“Overthinking? Seriously? You two have been together for so many years–if you hadn’t broken up, you’d probably be holding kids by now,” Jasper shot back. 

“Just because I’ve dated someone doesn’t mean I have to marry them all,” Gideon retorted. 

Jasper fell silent. 

He really had no idea how to respond to that.

Outside, Tessa had just stepped out of Gideon’s office when she ran into his secretary, who was moving some things in the hallway. 

Something familiar inside one of the boxes caught her eye, stopping her in her tracks. 

“Hold on a sec,” Tessa said, walking over to the secretary. 

She grabbed an unopened box from the carton, turning it over in her hands. When she realized it was the congratulatory gift she’d given Gideon at the Gold Gauntlet office party her expression soured instantly. 

Noticing her reaction and looking confused, the secretary said, “These are all things Gideon doesn’t really use anymore. I was just about to take them down to the utility room. Is there any problem?” 

Tessa placed the box back in the carton, shaking her head. “No, no problem. Forget I asked.” 

She left in a hurry, not wanting to linger another second. 

As soon as the elevator doors slid shut, that flawless mask she’d put on instantly fell apart. 

Chapter 64 

She couldn’t help but remember how Gideon made a point of keeping Aurelia’s kumquat plant right out on his desk, tending to it like it was some prized treasure. 

Aurelia’s gift got all his care and attention. 

But he didn’t even bother to look at the promotion present Tessa had painstakingly picked out, just let the secretary handle it, like it was no big deal. 

That sting of being treated so differently hit her hard.

As soon as Aurelia stepped out of Gold Gauntlet, she spotted Cassian. This man looked great and had a perfect body. Even in a crowd, he would stand out. 

The kind that easily attracted the opposite sex. Many people passing by kept looking at him. 

People passing by couldn’t help but stare, and some were even whispering to each other. 

“Did you see that guy? He’s so handsome! Totally my type!” one girl whispered. 

“Tell me about it. His girlfriend is seriously winning at life–I wish I was her!” her friend replied, clearly 

envious. 

“Bet he’s an absolute beast in bed, too. Look at those arms! With a body like that, he could pull off literally any position,” the first girl giggled. 

Aurelia cleared her throat, making it clear to the girls they were talking way too loud for a public place. 

The two girls instantly clammed up, awkwardly looking away in embarrassment. 

It was the end of the workday, and the entrance was packed with people coming and going. 

Cassian was completely focused on his phone and didn’t even notice Aurelia as she brushed right past him. 

Aurelia walked out with her head held high, not bothering to avoid him at all. 

Even if Cassian had seen her, she wouldn’t have changed a thing. 

After all, she hadn’t done anything wrong, so she had no reason to avoid him. 

Cassian, having waited long enough with no updates, decided to call Tessa himself. 

When she picked up, his voice was easy and warm, “I’m here. Come on down.”
