Chapter 72Â
Russell Garfield, Tyson’s professor, was about sixty years old.Â
Just like Tyson always said, Russell looked as stern as ever.Â
When Tyson saw him, he cowered immediately, like a mouse in front of a cat.Â
“Professor Garfield,” Tyson greeted, bowing his head.Â
Russell let out a low, uninterested grunt, then turned his gaze to Aurelia. After sizing her up for a few seconds, he asked, “Is she your girlfriend?”Â
Tyson nearly jumped, blurting out, “No. Professor Garfield, you misunderstood. She’s my investor.”Â
Russell must have looked into Tyson’s work. When he realized Aurelia was the investor, a hint of genuine respect flashed in his eyes.Â
He even stood up and reached out to shake Aurelia’s hand, saying, “Hello, I’m Tyson’s professor. Thank you so much for backing his project.”Â
Aurelia took his hand with both of hers as a sign of respect. “You flatter me, Professor Garfield. I’m doing what any investor should do.”Â
However, Russell saw things differently.Â
To an entrepreneur, an investor was like a talent scout, a kingmaker who could spot a diamond in the rough.Â
Without that kind of backing and guidance, even someone with extraordinary potential could end up lost in the crowd.Â
Aurelia and Tyson had barely sat down when someone else walked in.Â
To Aurelia’s utter surprise, it was Cassian.Â
‘Wait, wasn’t he supposed to be having dinner with Tessa and her family? What made him show Aurelia thought, puzzled.Â
up here?‘Â
Cassian didn’t bring Tessa along this time. Instead, he showed up with Scott Hoffman, the investment director from Strategic Division Two.Â
Scott was visibly startled to see Aurelia there. He hadn’t expected her to be at this kind of business dinner.Â
With so many people around, Scott couldn’t come out and ask her about it.Â
“Mr. Locke,” Russell greeted, getting up to meet Cassian.Â
Meanwhile, Russell gestured for Tyson to stand and introduced him, “This is Mr. Locke from Honoria Capital. He is the one who organized tonight’s dinner.”Â

Then he told Cassian, “This is Tyson Morris, my student. He’s attending the AI summit, too. I had some urgent business to discuss with him, so I asked him to come straight here.”Â
Cassian didn’t mind at all. “No need to stand on ceremony, Mr. Garfield, I know Mr. Morris as well. I didn’t realize he was in Vireston. If I had, believe me, I would’ve sent him an invite myself.”Â
Everyone recognized those words for what they were–pure courtesy, nothing anyone paid attention to.Â
However, Aurelia could see it now. Russell really held some serious clout.Â
Otherwise, there was no way Cassian would be that polite, let alone host a dinner for Russell, if he wasn’t.Â
Basically, if Cassian personally invited one out to dinner, one was definitely a VIP.Â
Everyone at dinner was a major player.Â
Once Aurelia realized what was going on, she immediately got up and started making the rounds, greeting everyone at the table.Â
She offered a toast and handed out her business card to each guest.Â
Jasper, the jerk, actually made a fairly pertinent point.Â
Aurelia was a seasoned pro when it came to business.Â
She’d picked up her survival skills from years of grinding through ups and downs in the corporate jungle.Â
That was why Aurelia never missed a single opportunity to expand her network.Â
After all, she didn’t have anyone out there making introductions for her.Â
When it was Cassian’s turn, Aurelia simply put her phone away.Â
She skipped right over him and went straight back to her seat, not saying a word.Â
Scott couldn’t help staring, completely thrown off by what Aurelia did.Â
Honestly, back in Scott’s mind, Aurelia had always bent over backward for Cassian. She’d jump at whatever Cassian said, no complaints.Â
Scott had known Aurelia for years, but it was the first time he’d seen her ice Cassian out like that. He felt quiteÂ
unaccustomed.Â
Cassian remained completely unfazed, shifting his focus to discuss the details of tomorrow’s summit with the distinguished guests at the table.Â
Aurelia was totally tuned in, paying close attention. Whatever they were talking about could turn out to be the next hottest opportunity in the business world.Â
Tyson, on the other hand, found it tough to fit in at a dinner like that. He barely joined the conversation, looking kind of out of place.Â

Aurelia always found ways to toss out a few words now and then. Just like that, she’d steer the whole topic. toward Tyson.Â
Most of the topics she brought up were related to professional matters.Â
And when it came to that stuff, Tyson was right at home, handling it with no trouble at all.Â
Watching Aurelia and Tyson tag–team through the conversation, it was that whole “teamwork between a man and a woman makes work smoother” vibe.Â
So, someone couldn’t help but crack a joke. “Are you two secretly dating? That chemistry between you isÂ
unreal.”Â
Aurelia laughed and waved it off. “No way. We’re solid business partners. All this teamwork is from hustling together at work.”Â
Russell brought up the ‘girlfriend‘ thing before. The crowd couldn’t help but tease them even more.Â
“Come on, is it because Russell’s right here that you’re too scared to confess?” someone joked.Â
Tyson’s face went crimson. “Seriously, we’re not a couple yet.”Â
That cheeky “not yet” he tossed out? Now that was loaded with meaning.Â
Fortunately, everyone kept it light. They didn’t try to dig any deeper.Â
Just then, Cassian got up and said, “You guys carry on. I need to step out for a minute, but I’ll be back soon.”Â
Since Cassian was the host tonight, nobody minded him leaving for a bit. It’s not like anyone would make a fuss.Â
Once Cassian was out of the room, Scott spoke up to explain, “Mr. Locke’s girlfriend is eating here, too, so he’s going over to be with her. I’ll drink with everyone on his behalf.”Â
‘So that’s where he went–off to be with Tessa, Aurelia thought.Â
Even with such a high–stakes dinner on the line, Cassian could drop everything to go be with her.Â
That kind of dedication was honestly jaw–dropping.Â
Aurelia, unfazed as ever, kept pouring her energy into lively conversations with the others, swapping ideas, talking about InquireMind, and exploring where AI could be headed next.Â
Cassian was gone for quite a while.Â
He only came back when the dinner was nearly over, just to say goodbye to everyone before leaving.Â
As Aurelia gave Tyson a hand, Cassian’s phone started ringing.Â
He answered, his tone unexpectedly tender as he said, “I’m on my way.”Â

Who else could it be but Tessa who called Cassian?Â
Aurelia took her sweet time before finally giving Tyson a hand and walking him over to the elevator.Â
The elevator was already there waiting for them, so Aurelia quickly hit the button.Â
To her surprise, Cassian was standing right inside when the doors opened up.Â
Aurelia frowned, thinking, ‘Of course. Just my luck, huh?”Â
Cassian stepped aside to make room for them.Â
Aurelia hesitated for a split second, then helped Tyson step inside.Â
“There is no need to avoid him. Besides, it’s not like he owned the restaurant, thought Aurelia.Â
The restaurant’s elevator was much narrower and smaller than the regular ones outside.Â
The three of them squeezed in, barely any space between them.Â
Aurelia could even pick up the scent clinging to Cassian.Â
‘Yep, that’s the familiar women’s perfume again,‘ Aurelia thought to herself.Â
However, she had nowhere to retreat this time. All she could do was frown, feeling helpless.Â
Luckily, Cassian stayed glued to his phone, never once looking at her or saying a word.Â
They stood there as if they were strangers, pretending the other didn’t even exist.Â
Only cold indifference hung in the air between them.Â
As soon as the elevator reached the first floor, Cassian was the first to step out.Â
‘He probably couldn’t wait to see Tessa. Or he may not want her waiting for him too long,‘ thought Aurelia.Â
Aurelia guided Tyson out slowly, making sure he didn’t trip over himself.Â
Tyson couldn’t hold his liquor at all. He was completely wasted, stumbling around in a daze and lost in his own little world.Â
He kept mumbling to himself, “I’ll drink… I’ll drink for her… I’ll toast on her behalf…”Â
Aurelia gave an exasperated eye roll, not even knowing what to say at that point.Â
‘With a tolerance like his, how could he possibly drink for anyone else?‘ Aurelia thought, feeling helpless.Â
Outside the restaurant, Karlie had plans to hit the bars with her boyfriend, so she wasn’t heading back to the hotel with Cassian and Tessa.Â
Tessa reminded Karlie to stay safe.Â

Once Karlie hopped into the car, she leaned out the window and called out, “Hey, Cassian. Sorry for playing the third wheel all day! I’ll stop interrupting and let you two have your own time.Â
“Go and enjoy a romantic night. I’ve got Randolph Shapley with me, so no worries! Hope you two have a super happy night!”Â
