Karlie didn’t bother keeping her voice down. The hint she dropped was as clear as day. 

Tessa’s checks flushed, a rare sight. Once Karlie was gone, she turned to Cassian with a sheepish look, saying, “Karlie’s always been the outspoken type. She is never shy about saying what’s on her mind. Don’t take her seriously,” 

Cassian grinned back at her. “Take what seriously? The thing she called me, or maybe her wishful congratulations?” 

Ugh, he doesn’t care about the occasion. Just openly flirting like that, Aurelia thought, feeling a bit embarrassed for them both. 

Cassian had changed a lot. 

He used to mix business with personal matters all the time, but in the end, he gave in for love. 

Cassian was such a stranger to Aurelia now. It was as if she’d never known him at all. 

What happened before was nothing but a fleeting dream for Aurelia. 

It turned out that the guy Aurelia fell for was the one she made up in her head, not Cassian, the real one right before her. 

Maybe it was Aurelia getting caught up in her own story this whole time. 

Tessa was probably feeling a bit shy and didn’t know how to respond to Cassian. 

Just then, Aurelia passed by, supporting Tyson. She glanced over, her voice soft and teasing as she said, “Hey, there are people around.” 

Cassian just shot Aurelia a cold, indifferent look before calmly turning his gaze away. 

Aurelia didn’t pause. She walked right past them and went to the curb to catch a cab. 

Tessa looked at Cassian. 

Cassian opened the car door for her. “Let’s go.” 

“Alright,” Tessa replied. 

Before getting into the car, Tessa cast a brief, satisfied glance in the direction Aurelia had left, a self–assured smirk playing at her lips. 

Her smile said she was totally unfazed. 

From everything she’d seen these days, Tessa was now certain Cassian had zero feelings for Aurelia. 

He was downright cold toward Aurelia.

Not even a hint of that typical possessiveness men sometimes have for women, 

Tessa thought to herself, ‘Big deal, Aurelia stuck with Cassian for seven years. 

‘Seven years, and Cassian couldn’t even acknowledge Aurelia, never once made her his official girlfriend! 

“That says it all! 

‘She doesn’t stand a chance against me. Never did, and never will. 

‘Honestly, Aurelia’s not even on my radar.’ 

Their car looped around the roundabout, passing right by Aurelia. 

Aurelia was still waiting for a cab. 

Cassian rolled the window up, shutting out the chilly air. He glanced at Tessa, concern obvious in his voice as he said, “Cold air will come in if the window is open.” 

Tessa flashed him a sweet smile and said, “Yeah, I see. 

“By the way, how did your talk with Mr. Garfield go today? Did you mention my project?” 

Cassian nodded. “Yes, I brought it up. He seemed to think it was good.” 

Tessa brightened up. “That’s a relief. Hopefully, something good will come out of it tomorrow.” 

“It will,” Cassian said confidently. He’d always believed in her. 

His trust gave Tessa a real sense of superiority. 

I mean, she had a PhD from Whitvale School of Management. Cassian had literally gone all the way overseas and headhunted her back himself. 

How could someone like Aurelia, with a local college degree, even compare with Tessa? 

Tessa thought with a scoff, ‘Does Aurelia even think she’s in the same league as me? 

‘Honestly, comparing the two of us is an insult to my qualifications! 

‘Therefore, Cassian treating Aurelia with indifference is common sense. Anyone would see it the same way! 

Still, Tessa wasn’t smug about it. She smiled politely and kept things humble. 

Once they were back at the hotel, Tessa was set to meet with her project team to make sure they were fully prepared. She wanted to shine at tomorrow’s summit and make Honoria Capital proud. 

Cassian gave her a gentle look, saying, “Don’t wear yourself out, okay?” 

Tessa smiled, saying, “It’s no trouble. I just feel bad I can’t spend more time with you.”

His trust in Tessa made her feel safe and reassured deep down. 

Meanwhile, Aurelia was still out on the curb, holding Tyson up as they waited for a cab. It took almost ten minutes before one finally pulled over. 

The cold wind sobered Tyson up a bit, and he felt guilty.

He thought, ‘Not only did I not help Aurelia at all. I’m actually making her worry about me. What a burden I’ve become, I messed up.‘ 

“Let me handle it when we’re at one of those drinking parties next time. No need to help me out. I can hold my own,” Aurelia said quietly. 

“Yeah, I know I’m pretty bad at booze, but I wanted to take care of you a little. If I can knock back a glass for you, maybe you won’t have to drink so much…” Tyson replied, a bit self–conscious. 

Tyson’s words seemed to melt away the cold lingering on Vireston’s night streets. 

Aurelia didn’t say anything else. 

Tyson stayed silent for a good while, then finally asked carefully, “Are you okay?” 

Aurelia shot him a confused look. 

‘Do I look that messed up?‘ she wondered. 

Tyson hesitated, glancing at Aurelia. “Uh… I saw Mr. Locke when his car drove by just now. He actually closed the window right in front of you.” 

Aurelia gave him a blank look, like she wouldn’t have remembered at all if he hadn’t mentioned it. “Honestly, it doesn’t matter to me anymore.” 

She meant it, whether Tyson bought it or not. 

Aurelia shrugged softly, her voice quiet as she added, “Nobody sticks around forever. Nobody’s indispensable. 

“The world keeps turning, whether someone leaves or not.”

Early the next morning, someone knocked on Tessa’s hotel room door. 

Thinking it was Cassian, Tessa rushed over with excitement to open the door–only to be taken aback when she saw Jasper standing outside instead. 

“Surprise! Bet you didn’t see me coming, huh?” Jasper grinned, his eyes full of mischief. 

Jasper had his suitcase behind him, looking like he’d just landed in Vireston.

“Come on, I’m here to soak up some wisdom from you, my goddess!” Jasper teased, peering past her into the room. “Where’s Cassian? Still catching some z’s?” 

“Yeah,” Tessa replied. 

“Oops, guess I’m the third wheel right now!” Jasper said, smacking his forehead like he’d just realized. “I’ll head over to the restaurant and wait for you guys. Take your time, and don’t worry about me!” 

Then, Jasper slipped off to the restaurant. 

He waited in the restaurant for almost an hour before Cassian and Tessa finally strolled in. 

Jasper kept his mouth shut about why they’d taken so long. 

After all, they were adults. Everyone knew what was up. 

Once Tessa sat down, she glanced at Jasper and asked, “So, what brings you to Vireston anyway?” 

“I’m seriously here to learn!” Jasper said with a grin. “My dad’s always in my case, calling me useless, nagging me to look up to the young elites of Ashmont. So I grabbed my suitcase and came rushing over, hoping to pick up a few things from my favorite role models!” 

Apparently, Tessa was at the top of his role model list. 

After all, Tessa had a PhD from Whitvale School of Management 

That title alone made her someone Jasper could never hope to catch up to. 

As the heir of a top–tier family, Jasper walked around with an effortless sense of superiority. 

The only people he ever bothered to respect were the absolute best, the kind who outshone everyone else. 

Cassian, for sure. 

Tessa, without question. 

But Aurelia? She was never even on Jasper’s radar. He never bothered to put on a polite face for Aurelia. 

Deep down, Jasper had nothing but contempt for women like Aurelia. 

Jasper figured Aurelia only clawed her way into the chief secretary spot at Honoria Capital by relying on her looks, sleeping her way up, trading favors, and using every connection she could find. 

And she actually had the nerve to dream of being the next Cinderella, thinking she could leap straight into high society? Talk about wishful thinking.

Jasper’s father got so mad that he ended up lying in the hospital for a week, swearing he’d cancel Jasper’s credit cards and throw him abroad to fend for himself if Jasper kept screwing up. 

Tessa chuckled at Jasper’s nonstop complaining and nodded, “Alright, you’re in luck. You happen to have a chance to broaden your horizons today. You watch and learn.”
