Chapter 89Â
Maybe Gideon wasn’t as rich as Cassian, but he was still rolling inÂ
There’s no way he’d just gift Aurelia a car worth hundreds thousand bucks.Â
If that’s all he did, then he clearly wasn’t that into her.Â
‘Guess I was just overthinking it,‘ Tessa thought to herself.Â
So she glanced away, a wry smile tugging at her lips.Â
As Gideon and Aurelia were heading out, they caught sight of Cassian and Tessa.Â
Gideon greeted them first.Â
Aurelia walked right past, didn’t even look their way, didn’t pause for a second, just walked straight out.Â

As she walked by, Cassian was reassuring Tessa, “It’s just a tiny scratch. Once it’s fixed, you won’t even be able to tell, so your cousin doesn’t have to worry at all.”Â
HeÂ
never even noticed Aurelia was there.Â
Tessa felt reassured. “I kept saying it was just a small accident, but you still came all the way here.”Â
Cassian simply replied, “It’s the least I can do.”Â
Seeing how close Cassian and Tessa were, Gideon let a barely–there smile slip onto his face.Â
After saying goodbye, he quickly caught up to Aurelia, and the two of them left together.Â
Two days later, Aurelia showed up at the dealership right on time to pick up her car.Â
This time, it was peaceful. She didn’t bump into anyone she’d rather avoid.Â
She drove straight to the office.Â
Miranda was waiting for her. Before Aurelia could even get out of the car, Miranda slipped something into her hand.Â
She was being all secretive about it.Â
Aurelia opened it and was momentarily stunned.Â
It was a protective charm.Â
And it was exactly like the one she’d prayed for Cassian before, only differing in its age.Â
The one Miranda gave her was clearly new.Â
“It’s an Ashmont thing. Whenever someone gets a new car, you give them a blessing. So here’s a protective charm for you. Hope you always drive safe!” Miranda said with a grin.Â
“Thanks, Miranda,” Aurelia said, her smile showing just how much she appreciated it.Â
Getting this protective charm wasn’t easy. One had to kneel and pray on every one of ninety–nine steps at the church.Â
Aurelia wondered when Miranda found the time to do all that.Â

“So, what brings you here today? Isn’t it the weekends” Aurelia asked as she hung the charm on her rearview mirror.Â
“Obviously, I came here just to give you this charm.” Miranda replied.Â
Aurelia was genuinely touched. “Since you’re here anyway, I’m putting you to work overtime!”Â
Miranda’s face instantly fell. “Aurelia, you’ve changed! You’re starting to look just like a capitalist overlord!”Â
“Too late for regrets now. You’ve boarded my pirate ship, and there’s no escape!” Aurelia teased.Â
Just as they were joking around, Tyson and Mila showed up.Â
Mila hopped out of the car and dashed over to Aurelia. “Aurelia, congrats on your new car!”Â
She turned back and called out to Tyson, “Come on, Tyson! Don’t forget Aurelia’s gift!”Â
“Isn’t that a bit much?” Aurelia blurted out, instinctively trying to refuse.Â
Mila just grinned and tugged her arm. “It’s just a little something for good luck. Don’t worry, there’s barely any money in it.”Â
Tyson strolled over and set an envelope on the dashboard, then tucked it under the sun visor.Â
He adjusted it carefully, making sure it wouldn’t block Aurelia’s view while she was driving.Â
“My mom says you have to give a gift when someone gets a new car. It’s for good luck and safety,” Mila added.Â
In that moment, Aurelia’s heart was full. She was honestly moved by all the love around her.Â
Things were pretty much set up at the company, but right now, bringing new talent on board was the number one priority.Â
Before heading out to East Pastures Estate, Aurelia told Miranda to get the job postings up. She’d sift through all the resumes herself once she got home that night.Â
When it came to hiring, Aurelia wasn’t about to let anyone else take the reins. She was going to keep a tight grip on the whole process.Â
East Pastures Estate was tucked away in the southernmost part of Ashmont, nestled between mountains and a lake, with views that could take one’s breath away.Â
The place was fully loaded. They had a horse ranch, tennis courts, and even à golf course.Â
All the big shots in town came here to do business.Â
Aurelia made sure to arrive early. These were all her seniors, and she wanted to be respectful and not keep anyone waiting.Â
After she got there, she didn’t let Benjamin know she’d arrived. Instead, she quietly waited in the lobby, taking advantage of the rare chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery at East Pastures Estate.Â
But her moment of peace didn’t last long before someone interrupted her.Â
“Aurelia?”Â
Aurelia turned to see who it was.Â
It was Liam, another one of Cassian’s childhood friends.Â
Of course, Liam never bothered to be friendly with her.Â
But at least he wasn’t like Jasper, who acted recklessly or lashed out at anyone at any time.Â

Liam, though, had a sharper tongue.Â
Right now, even though he didn’t say a word, that morking smirk on his far said it all.Â
He probably thinks I’m just some clingy leech, always sticking to Cassian, Aurelia thought to herself.Â
Back then, Aurelia wouldn’t just ignore Liam. She’d go out of her way to talk to them, always trying to squeeze herself into their group.Â
But after seven years of effort, she still couldn’t get in.Â
She used to think maybe she just wasn’t working hard enough.Â
Now she finally understood. It was never about her effort. They’d never wanted her in, always shutting her out.Â
They were from different circles, so there was no need for her to force a connection.Â
Aurelia looked away indifferently, didn’t greet him, didn’t acknowledge him, just acted like he didn’t exist.Â
Liam was a bit taken aback by her attitude.Â
He smirked, walked over, sat down across from Aurelia, and started talking to her.Â
“You’re quite well–informed. You came running as soon as you heard Cassian would be here, didn’t you?” Liam sneered.Â
Aurelia had no idea Cassian was even here.Â
But she really didn’t like the way Liam was talking to her.Â
So she shot back, “Careful, that wild imagination of yours might get you in trouble one day.”Â
Liam was caught off guard for a second.Â
After all, the Aurelia he remembered was always so gentle and accommodating, never lost her temper, and was easy to walk all over.Â
Back then, he and his friends would mock her constantly, but she never got mad. never even showed a hint of annoyance.Â
Even when she ran into them again, she was always unfailingly polite.Â
But this time, her sharp comeback totally caught him off guard.Â
Liam didn’t get mad. He just smirked and said, “Please, do I even need to make stuff up? Wasn’t that you back then, stuck to Cassian like superglue? And now you wanna pretend you weren’t?”Â
Aurelia stayed cool. “Thank you for helping me recall the past. Who didn’t crush on a few jerks when they were young?”Â
Liam, who’d been waiting for some drama, suddenly didn’t know what to say.Â
She didn’t deny her past at all, and even took the chance to throw some shade at Cassian.Â
That made Liam swallow all his words.Â
For the first time, Aurelia totally put Liam in his place.Â
She really wasn’t the same girl she used to be.Â
Jasper had said the same thing not long ago, but Liam just thought he was exaggerating.Â

He’d always figured Aurelia was just the same as before, a hopeless simp who just wouldn’t stop following Cassian, no matterÂ
what.Â
But seeing her today…Â
He found it somewhat interesting.Â
Just then. Liam’s phone buzzed. It was Jasper. He answered, “You picked up Tessa? Cool, I’m coming out now. With that, he got up and headed out.Â
‘Finally, some peace and quiet, Aurelia thought to herself.Â
Just then, Benjamin called to say he was almost there.Â
Aurelia quickly got up and headed to the entrance to greet him.Â
As she stepped outside, she spotted Jasper acting as Tessa’s personal bag boy, trailing after her with all her stuff.Â
Even Liam was playing the gentleman, holding an umbrella for Tessa so she wouldn’t get wet.Â
They treated Tessa like she was part of their inner circle. practically family, and the bond between them was obvious.Â
When Tessa saw Aurelia at East Pastures Estate, she raised an eyebrow in annoyance.Â
Aurelia ignored them completely and just waited by the curb.Â
Jasper scoffed, “Pretending to be all that.”Â
Tessa barely spared Aurelia a glance, her attention shifting straight to Gideon instead.Â
“When’s Gideon getting here?” she asked.Â
“He should be here any minute,” Jasper replied.Â
Tessa smirked. “Let’s head inside and wait for them. Cassian will arrive later.”Â
“You decide!” Jasper replied.Â
As the three of them walked inside, Jasper was still gossiping with Liam. “Come on, Aurelia’s obviously here for Cassian.”Â
Liam shrugged, “She said she didn’t.”Â
“If she’s not, I’ll eat shit!” Jasper snorted.Â
