Aurelia replied, “No.” 

‘A date? What date? 

‘Only people who are useless to society have time to go on dates!‘ Aurelia scoffed inwardly. 

When Gideon heard her answer, the corner of his mouth lifted in a barely noticeable smile. 

That subtle smile didn’t slip past Liam, who was sitting right across from him. 

Liam’s heart skipped a beat. It was like he’d just uncovered some mind–blowing secret.

But this was definitely not the moment to start digging for drama. Even though Liam was dying to know more, he had to hold back his curiosity for now. 

“If you’re free, Ms. Corin, how about we just talk today? No time like the present,” Liam said. 

Aurelia didn’t mind at all. 

She never cared about the time when it came to work. At Honoria Capital, she was famous for being the ultimate overtime queen. 

Since Gideon was there, Aurelia still asked for his opinion. 

Gideon replied casually, “I’m just here to check on the project. If you don’t mind, I can just listen in.” 

Gold Gauntlet was one of the investors, so of course they had a right to know what was going on. 

Naturally, Gideon stuck around. 

Liam was now even more sure his suspicions were spot on. 

For Gold Gauntlet, a few million in investments barely registered. 

But now for such a small amount, the CEO himself had to come down and check things out. 

‘Yeah, right,‘ Liam thought to himself. ‘He obviously isn’t here just for the project; there is something else going on. 

However, he didn’t call him out, just kept his attention on talking business with Aurelia. 

Tyson, one of InquireMind’s top tech guys, joined the conversation too, 

Outside, Mila was getting antsy. She was hoping to play matchmaker and get Aurelia to go watch the fireworks by the river with Tyson. 

If Aurelia agreed, Mila planned to bail with some random excuse and leave the two of them alone. 

Sadly, her scheme crashed and burned before it even took off. She’d totally spaced on the fact that both Aurelia and Tyson were hardcore workaholics. 

Yet, Mila still had another plan up her sleeve. 

Just as the conversation was heating up, Mila knocked and walked in. “Aurelia, I made some poached pear syrup drink. Tyson told me your throat’s been feeling a bit off these days.” 

Her throat really had been a little sore lately, but she hadn’t paid it any mind. She hadn’t expected Tyson to remember

something like that. 

“Thanks, Aurelia said, genuinely touched. 

Mila made sure to say it loud enough for everyone to hear. “Tyson’s always so thoughtful about you. He kept telling me over and over to make this drink for you to help with your cough and take care of your lungs.” 

“Mila, we’re in a meeting. Can you step out for a bit?” Tyson said, sounding a bit nervous. 

“Alright, alright, I won’t bother you guys,” Mila said, knowing when to quit. She didn’t want to embarrass her shy brother any 

further. 

“Oh, and tonight’s New Year’s Eve! Aurelia, after you’re done here, can you take me to the fireworks show? I heard it’s supposed to be huge,” she added. 

Before leaving, Mila clung to the doorframe, giving Aurelia a pitiful look. 

She put on her best puppy–dog eyes, looking all innocent and helpless. 

Aurelia couldn’t bring herself to say no, especially after Mila had gone out of her way to make her drink. So she nodded. “Sure, I’ll take you after we’re done.” 

“Yay!” Mila grinned. She happily skipped out of the meeting room. 

They chatted a little longer, and when it was about time, Aurelia walked Liam and Tyson to the door. 

Gideon suddenly chimed in, “I’m heading to the fireworks show too. Since I’m going that way, want to go together?” 

Aurelia had no reason to turn him down. She shot Liam a look, about to say something, but he beat her to it. 

“I want to check it out too. Mind if I tag along?” Liam jumped in. 

Aurelia just stared, speechless. 

‘Is this fireworks show really that big of a deal? Why does everyone suddenly want to go?‘ she wondered. 

In the end, the whole crew headed down to the riverfront for the fireworks show. 

They arrived just in time; the show was just getting started. 

The place was packed with people, and since it was New Year’s Eve, the crowd was even bigger than usual. 

Aurelia wasn’t really into it, so she just hung back on the sidelines, avoiding the crush of people. 

Tyson’s attention was all on her, so he stayed by her side too, not bothering to join the crowd. 

Oddly enough, even though Gideon and Liam had come specifically for the fireworks, neither of them bothered to squeeze 

into the crowd. 

Gideon glanced at Liam. “Weren’t you here for the fireworks? Why aren’t you out there?” 

Liam shot back, “Aren’t you supposed to be here for the show too? Why aren’t you out there?” 

“I don’t like crowds,” Gideon said. 

“Funny, me neither,” Liam replied. 

“How about we find somewhere to sit down?” Aurelia suggested.

Except for Mila, who just had to be in the middle of the action, the four of them headed off to a scenic café by the river. 

As soon as they sat down, the girl at the next table started gossiping excitedly with her boyfriend. 

“I just heard tonight’s fireworks show cost like a few million bucks! Some super rich dude set it all up just to impress his girlfriend! We totally picked the right spot tonight!” she said. 

“Damn, we really lucked out!” her boyfriend replied. 

Just as they finished talking, a burst of dazzling fireworks lit up the sky outside. 

It really was beautiful. Even Aurelia couldn’t help but watch a little longer. 

Jasper sent a voice message in the group chat, and Liam automatically put it on speaker. 

“Cassian’s lighting up the riverfront tonight with fireworks worth millions for Tessa! You guys are totally missing out on all the drama!” Jasper’s voice blared through the speaker. 

Liam’s hand trembled as he hurriedly turned off the screen, then shot a worried look at Aurelia. 

After all, there was something between Aurelia and Cassian in the past. And she was the one who got dumped. 

Hearing that must’ve hurt. Liam didn’t even know why he cared so much about Aurelia’s feelings. 

But to his surprise, Aurelia seemed completely unfazed, her expression didn’t change at all. 

She looked like she couldn’t care less about any 

of it. 

Liam couldn’t tell if Aurelia genuinely didn’t care, or if she was just pretending not to. 

Still, wanting to spare her feelings, he decided to just let Jasper’s message slide. 

Even after learning the whole fireworks show was Cassian’s grand gesture for Tessa, Aurelia didn’t budge or show any urge to leave. 

She watched the entire thing, totally focused. Nobody could read what was going on in her head. 

Liam was so focused on her that he didn’t even notice the spectacular fireworks show going on right in front of him. 

Meanwhile, Gideon, sitting nearby, was even more composed than Liam. He didn’t seem worried about Aurelia at all. 

The calmer Aurelia was, the more it showed she’d truly moved on. That was exactly what Gideon wanted to see. 

On the other hand, all Aurelia could think about was the money flying out the window. 

Fireworks worth millions, luxury cars, a mansion that cost a hundred million–in just three months, Cassian had been ridiculously generous with Tessa. 

If she’d known Cassian was that into Tessa, she would’ve spoken up a bit when they worked together. 

‘Should’ve gone bigger,’ Aurelia thought, a little regretful. 

At midnight, Aurelia’s phone buzzed. It was a New Year’s greeting from Mia. 

After replying, Aurelia noticed Tessa had just updated her Instagram feed. 

They’d only connected back when they handed over the project.

Since they hadn’t really kept in touch, Aurelia had pretty much forgotten about it. 

But she recognized the profile pic; it was a casual photo of Tessa from real life. 

Aurelia tapped in to take a look. Of course, it was all about showing off her relationship. 

A nine–photo grid of fireworks, showing off the moments she felt happiest. 

The caption was just two simple words: [So happy.] 

Their mutual friend, Jasper, left a comment, [Happy AF!] 

Tessa replied with a smiley face, didn’t say a word, but it said everything.

Tessa replied, [You guys go ahead. Cassian and I have our own thing tonight.]

Aurelia caught on instantly. After all, they were all grown–ups.
