Chapter 97Â
Aurelia stared at her phone for a couple of seconds when another notification popped up.Â
Cassian had just posted on Instagram too.Â
He was the kind of guy who almost never posted, but in the past three months, he’d already posted twice.Â
And every single one was about Tessa.Â
This time, he just said, [Happy New Year.]Â
The photo he posted was of fireworks lighting up the night sky.Â
Tessa replied almost instantly, [Happy New Year.]Â
They probably planned to post at the same time.Â
Aurelia couldn’t care less if Cassian replied to Tessa or what he said.Â
Then, before closing the app, she blocked both of them. She just wanted some peace and quiet.Â
At the start of the new year, workaholic Aurelia actually took a rare day off.Â
She blew off a bunch of invites, grabbed some health supplements, and went to see Ella.Â
Ever since she quit Honoria Capital, she’d thrown herself into work. So busy she barely saw Ella at all.Â
She made a point to get up early, and it was only 7:30 when she got home.Â
Ella was always up at the same time every day, and 7:30 was right when she’d be having breakfast.Â
Aurelia planned to have breakfast with her, so she burst in and called out cheerfully, “Mom, I’m home!”Â
The living room was empty, but there was definitely some action going on in the kitchen.Â
She guessed someone was probably cooking up breakfast.Â
Aurelia dropped her stuff and dashed into the kitchen. “Mom, what yummy thing are you making?”Â
Her words had barely left her mouth before her face went stiff.Â
It wasn’t Ella in the kitchen, but the last person she ever expected to see.Â
After dishing out the chicken soup and turning off the stove, Cassian glanced at Aurelia, whose jaw was practically on the floor, and said, “Calling her ‘Mom‘ doesn’t really fit, does it?”Â
“Maybe you should call me something a bit more… playful,” he teased.Â
Aurelia’s good mood came to a screeching halt. Her smile vanished, her face turning icy. “Why are you here?”Â
Cassian took his sweet time getting a bowl from the cabinet and leisurely ladled out some chicken soup.Â
Still no answer. Aurelia was getting irritated, her face cold as ice. “You’re not welcome here. Just leave,” she snapped.Â
Cassian completely ignored her, placed a spoon in the bowl, and handed it over. “Go on, give it a taste.”Â

Chapter 97Â
She couldn’t even think about food right now. She just wanted him gone.Â
But before Aurelia could tell him to leave again, Ella walked in.Â

“Cassian, I just got back from Mrs. Kellough downstairs. I picked some fresh baby bok choy, these are just right for veggie porridge,” Ella said.Â
Then she spotted Aurelia and blinked in surprise. “Aurelia, weren’t you supposed to be out of town for work?”Â
“I…” Aurelia hesitated, totally caught off guard.Â
“Cassian said you’ve been so busy with work lately, you might not even get New Year’s Day off,” Ella said.Â
As she spoke, Cassian took the basket of veggies from her and headed back into the kitchen.Â
Ella pulled Aurelia down onto the couch and looked her up and down. “You’ve lost weight again! No matter how busy work gets, you still have to take care of yourself.”Â
“I’m trying to lose weight,” Aurelia said quietly.Â
“You always use that excuse! You’re already skinny. Why are you trying to lose more?” Ella replied.Â
Aurelia’s mind was somewhere else. She kept sneaking glances at the kitchen, then finally blurted out to Ella, “Why is he even here?”Â
“Cassian didn’t tell you?” Ella looked genuinely surprised. “Guess you’ve just been too busy, so he didn’t mention it. He’s been dropping by to see me pretty often lately.”Â
Aurelia just stared, completely at a loss for words.Â
She was suddenly totally baffled by Cassian. ‘Seriously, what kind of game is he playing now?”Â
“Mom, about me and him…” Aurelia began.Â
She felt this was all kinds of awkward and really needed to set things straight with Ella.Â
But before Aurelia could finish, Cassian poked his head out of the kitchen. “Ella, I fixed the water filter. Try it out, if it doesn’t work, I’ll get you a new one.”Â
“Sorry to trouble you again,” Ella said, getting up to check it.Â
“No trouble, really,” Cassian replied. “I also replaced the outlet. The old one was a hassle, but this new one has a built–in switch. Just press it when you’re done, so you don’t have to reach up to plug and unplug anymore.”Â
“Thanks so much, Cassian,” Ella said with a smile.Â
“Don’t mention it, Ella. The chicken soup is ready, make sure you have some while it’s still hot,” Cassian replied warmly.Â
Ella was all smiles today, way more than usual.Â
Seeing her mom so happy, Aurelia swallowed back the words she’d been about to say.Â
Breakfast was a total spread. Besides the chicken soup, there was also a veggie porridge that was basically a nutrition bomb.Â
With Ella keeping a close eye on her, Aurelia had no choice but to finish off two bowls of soup and a bowl of porridge, so full she thought she might burst.Â
After breakfast, Ella put Aurelia on dish duty, but Cassian jumped in right away, saying he’d handle it instead.Â

Ella waved him off. “You made the meal, so it’s only fair she does the dishes. Go on, take a break and relax”Â
As Aurelia was washing the dishes, a familiar cramp started creeping through her stomach.Â
‘Seriously? My period’s early again, and I didn’t prepare at all, she thought, annoyed.Â
She was sweating bullets from the pain, and her hands slipped, the bowl crashed to the floor.Â
Cassian was the first to burst in, his voice urgent. “Did you get hurt?”Â
He practically swept Aurelia out of the way of the shattered pieces, looking like he was terrified she’d get cut.Â

Aurelia was in so much pain she couldn’t even think about pushing him away. Cassian scooped her up and set her down on the couch, and she didn’t even protest.Â
“What’s going on?” Ella came rushing over, looking really worried.Â
“My stomach hurts…” Aurelia muttered through clenched teeth, breaking out in a cold sweat.Â
For some reason, the pain hit her way harder than usual this time.Â
“Let’s get you to the hospital!” Cassian said, already moving to pick her up.Â
Aurelia held his hand to stop him. “It’s just period cramps. Going to the hospital won’t help.”Â
“I’ll go get you some painkillers,” Ella said, heading to the bedroom to grab the meds.Â
Cassian poured her some hot water, never taking his eyes off Aurelia as she swallowed the pills.Â
After a little while, the painkillers started to kick in, and Aurelia finally began to relax.Â
Cassian said, “You really should go to the hospital and get it checked out. They need to find out the cause so you can actually treat it. Relying on painkillers all the time isn’t a real fix.”Â
Even Ella chimed in with Cassian this time. “Yeah, Aurelia, why don’t you go get it checked out?”Â
“I’ve already seen a doctor. It’s just how my body is, I need to take it slow and let it recover,” Aurelia explained.Â
“So how do you take care of it?” Cassian asked.Â
“I take medicine, eat healthy, try some food remedies, stuff like that. It’s not something that gets better overnight,” Aurelia replied.Â
“Which doctor did you go to?” Cassian asked, looking genuinely concerned.Â
But Aurelia was pretty sure he was just faking it. She just couldn’t figure out what his angle was.Â
“Hector Butler. He’s one of the best when it comes to traditional medicine,” Aurelia replied.Â
Cassian thought for a moment, then said, “Maybe you should see a modern doctor too. I know a specialist, let me set up an appointment for you.”Â
As a man of action, he didn’t hesitate and called the person right away.Â
The specialist said he’d be working tomorrow and told them to just drop by.Â
Cassian nodded, then looked at Aurelia. “I’ll come with you to the hospital tomorrow.”Â
Ella agreed, “It’s good to get another checkup. With Cassian going with you, I’ll feel a lot better.”Â

Aurelia started to say something, her lips parting as if the words were right there.Â
But she held her tongue, swallowing back everything she wanted to say.Â
Cassian didn’t leave until after lunch.Â
Aurelia had originally planned to stick around and have dinner with Ella before heading out, but something urgent popped up at work, so she had to make a quick trip back to the office.Â
In the end, they left together.Â
As soon as they stepped out the door and were out of Ella’s sight, Aurelia’s face changed in a flash.Â
She shot him a snarky look. “Wow, Cassian, I never pegged you for the king of time management before.”Â
