Tessa replied with a smile, “Cassian went to pick up my parents.” 

Both Jasper and Liam looked surprised.

They had known each other for years, and they had never seen Cassian go out of his way for anyone like this before. 

To think that he would go and pick up Tessa’s parents himself… 

It was obvious he cared deeply for Tessa if he was going to such lengths for her. 

“Is Mr. Rowe coming too?” Jasper asked. 

Tessa nodded. “Yeah, my dad has always been my biggest supporter. There’s no way he will miss something this important.” 

“Yeah, if I were half as successful as you, my dad would probably be standing at the door, welcoming everyone himself,” Jasper joked. 

After poking fun at himself, Jasper added, “Cassian is really very considerate toward your parents. I bet even his own father never received this kind of VIP treatment. By the way, is his father coming too?! 

It was clear Jasper wasn’t using his brain when he flippantly tossed out a question about Benjamin Locke, a question that hit Tessa’s sore point squarely. 

She wished, more than anyone, that Benjamin would show up to support her. 

If he did, it would mean she had earned his approval. Then she and Cassian could move their wedding plans forward. 

But Cassian never brought up this issue, and she couldn’t broach the subject on her end. 

She could only conclude that she hadn’t reached a high enough position to get Benjamin’s attention. 

Therefore, she was determined to climb even higher until one day she was high enough to catch Benjamin’s eye. 

Now that Jasper had brought this up, Tessa had to find a way to sidestep the question gracefully. 

So she gave a vague statement. “Mr. Locke has remained in retirement for many years. He has already announced he won’t be attending public events anymore, so we didn’t bother him.” 

Jasper believed her totally. “That’s true. The only time we got to see Mr. Locke was when we visited him during Thanksgiving.” 

Liam interrupted at this juncture. “Says who? Didn’t we see him at East/Pastures Estate the last time?” 

As soon as he said that, everyone clammed up. 

Indeed, they had met Benjamin in person that time, but it was through another person’s connection. 

And that person was Aurelia, the very person Tessa loathed the most. 

The atmosphere got a little awkward. 

Jasper quickly changed the subject, saying he had reserved a bottle of sparkling wine of rare vintage from an invitation–only winery to toast Tessa. 

Tessa’s expression finally relaxed a little.

She was familiar with this particular winery, so she could tell that Jasper valued his friendship with her. 

Tessa enjoyed feeling valued by others. 

Right at that moment, Tessa’s mother called to let her know they had arrived. 

Tessa went out excitedly to meet them. 

Jasper turned to Liam. “Let’s go say hi too.” 

“You go ahead. I have to take a call,” Liam replied. 

“What call can be so important that you have to answer it now?” Jasper frowned. 

Liam gave him a resigned look and showed his phone screen. “It’s from my dad.” 

“Alright, you’d better take it. I’ll go by myself,” Jasper grumbled.

Liam assumed his father was just calling to remind him not to miss the press conference for InquireMind’s launch. 

He mentally prepped himself to answer that he would pop over in a while, and he promised not to be late. 

To his surprise, his father informed him that he would be arriving soon. 

Liam blinked in surprise. “You’re coming too?” 

“Yeah, and not just me. Everyone from the business association is coming,” his father replied. 

Liam’s face tensed up. “I’ll be right there.”

Meanwhile, Aurelia was busy putting the finishing touches on the launch program/when Benjamin called again. 

She thought he was just concerned about her progress like before, so she dutifully reported the latest happenings.

Benjamin paused for a moment before saying, “I’m reaching the venue soon.” 

Aurelia got a shock. “You’re coming in person?” 

“Mm–hmm. Just to take a look.” Benjamin said it so casually that it sounded like he was just out for a stroll and happened to be passing by. 

But Aurelia knew that ever since he retired, he had been keeping a low profile and had stopped attending public events like 

this. 

Thus, there was no doubt that he was making an exception for her, though he would never admit it publicly. 

In that sense, his son Cassian resembled him a lot. 

Aurelia rushed out anxiously to welcome Benjamin. 

In her hurry, she collided with someone at the revolving door. 

It was nothing more than a light bump, but Aurelia still apologized profusely. “I’m so sorry.”

“It’s fine,” a male voice replied.

The man’s suit wasn’t even ruffled by the impact, but he remained standing where he was as he watched Aurelia rushing off. 

He seemed lost in thought. 

For a moment, he thought that he had gone back in time. 

He almost called out that name, but the woman’s eyes showed no indication that she recognized him… 

“Dad!” Tessa called out excitedly. 

Daniel Rowe recovered himself, and a gentle, affectionate smile appeared on his face. “Why did you come out here? It’s so inconvenient to move around in this dress.” 

“I want to welcome you and Mom myself.” Tessa then surveyed the surroundings before asking, “Where’s Mom? Didn’t she come with you?” 

“She left her phone in the car, so Cassian went with her to fetch it,” Daniel explained. 

Just as he finished speaking, Cassian walked in with Alina by his side. 

“Mom!” Tessa called out sweetly to her mother and gave her a big hug. 

Alina quickly detached herself and fussed over her. “Be careful. Don’t mess up your dress.” 

“No worries. The stylists are all here. If anything needs to be touched up, they’ll get it done in no time,” Tessa replied happily. 

Tessa was in a good mood as she basked in the warm affection of her family, but she didn’t forget to thank Cassian. “Cassian, thank you for picking up my parents.” 

“Let’s go in.” Cassian ushered everyone in. 

Tessa wrapped her arms around her mother’s as she walked. “The party is about to kick off. Thankfully, all of you arrived on time. Was the traffic jam very bad?” 

Alina shook her head. “It was fine when we came, but when Cassian came to pick us up, he might have been stuck in traffic.” 

“No matter. The important thing is you made it.” Tessa beamed happily. She felt that she was the luckiest person alive right 

now. 

“Dad, hurry up!” she called out. When she turned around to say something to Daniel, she found that he was trailing a long way behind. 

He also appeared a little distracted and not quite his usual self. 

But as soon as Tessa called out to him, Daniel recovered himself and hurried to catch up with everyone. 

Before long, Jasper had also emerged to welcome the whole family warmly. 

Alina was very civil towards him after learning that he was the son of a Gold Gauntlet top executive. 

“Where’s Liam?” Tessa asked when she saw that Jasper was alone. 

“He’s on the phone,” Jasper replied with a shrug. 

Tessa assumed he was still inside the hall and didn’t ask further.

As they mingled among the guests, whenever anyone recognized Daniel, they would come up to chat with him. 

Daniel became very busy entertaining all these guests. 

Alina took Tessa’s hand and asked, “Since today is such an important day, is Cassian’s father joining us?” 

“Mr. Locke hasn’t attended this sort of public event for many years, so I didn’t inform him,” Tessa explained. 

In spite of Tessa’s explanation, Alina still felt somewhat annoyed. 

Her daughter was so exceptional, yet Cassian’s father didn’t seem to pay her much attention.
