Chapter 32Â
Simone looked completely confused. “There really was stuff in there,” she insisted. “We all saw it. She glanced at the other three girls, who all nodded eagerly in confirmation.Â
Simone then said, “I have noticed them running back and forth to the other side these past few days. Maybe they moved all the supplies over there. There is simply too much to fit in one dorm room.”Â
Jason was stunned by Simone’s words. He wondered if there could really be that much stuff. He nudged a regular guy without any powers who was standing nearby. “You go in first,” he ordered.Â
The guy was one of the dorm’s original residents. He had never met Chloe before and assumed Jason was overreacting over two girls. But the moment he stepped inside the dorm, a blade flashed and his throat was slashed open.Â
Jason watched the man collapse headfirst to the floor. He froze for a second before quickly backing away.Â
His hawk–like eyes remained fixed on the wide–open dorm room door. The blankets on both beds were still piled high; the girls inside the room definitely didn’t move. But the man was dead.Â
No one dared to go check on him. Simone and the other three girls turned pale and clamped their hands over their mouths to stifle their screams.Â
The remaining twelve guys and four girls stood shivering in the hallway. Not a single one of them was brave enough to step forward. In the dim and hazy light, they could only make out vague shapes inside the room.Â
Dorm 1201 was eerily silent. Despite the chaos outside, the blankets on the beds did not even twitch.Â
“Jason, what should we do now?” one of the guys finally asked.Â
Jason gulped and scanned the situation. “Break the door down,” he commanded. He reasoned that if someone could kill that quickly, they must be hiding right behind the door.Â
A man with a sledgehammer swung hard and smashed the door to pieces.Â
Chloe was now exposed, with nowhere left to hide. She stood perfectly still, gripping her ice blade. Blood dripped steadily from its tip, and each drop seemed to hit the onlookers right in their chests.Â
Her smile was twisted, like something that had crawled out of hell, and it sent chills down everyone’s spines.Â
“A–Are you closer.”Â
even human?” one guy stammered, his voice shaking. “Or are you some kind of monster? D–Don’t come anyÂ
Chloe flashed a predatory grin. “Weren’t you all here to rob me? Then what are you waiting for? Come on in.”Â
Jason kicked the terrified man. “What are you freaking out for? We have five powered humans here. Are you seriously telling me we are scared of one woman?” In their panic, they had clearly already forgotten about Emily.Â
Chloe took a step backward, and a layer of ice coated her body, forming protection far better than any store–bought shield.Â
“Chloe, you have serious skills,” Jason said, changing his tone. “How about we team up?”Â
“Oh?” Chloe shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “And what is in it for me if I team up with you?”Â
“We have five powered humans in our crew,” Jason explained. “Having backup when we fight zombies would make things much easier.” Apparently, his offer was just a pretext to find a chance to ambush Chloe.Â
Chloe raised an eyebrow. “Why don’t you come inside, and we can have a nice little chat?”Â
Wow. Why don’t you comeÂ
Chapter 32Â
Chloe and Jason stared each other down for a solid five minutes, with neither willing to back down. Finally, Jason spat contemptuously and barked an order. “All of you, get her. Take this bitch down.”Â
The five powered humans rushed in together, though Jason somehow ended up at the back of the group.Â
Chloe’s ice blade flashed. With ruthless precision, she decapitated the man in front. Blood sprayed everywhere. The man did not even get a chance to react or use his powers.Â
The three powered humans behind him finally managed to muster their powers, but Chloe was already moving. She darted forward like lightning, took down two more before they could respond, and then retreated out of reach.Â
In just a blink, three powered humans were dead. Jason’s eyes bulged with fury. “You crazy bitch, do you want to die?” he roared as he hurled a fireball directly at Chloe.Â
Chloe’s eyes narrowed. She realized that Jason was a double–powered human, which explained his confidence. But his powers were still at a beginner level, while she had already reached level one.Â
Chloe dodged to the side, and the fireball smashed into the bed across the room, exploding into flames. She hissed, understanding that it was no ordinary fire power.Â
Immediately, Chloe threw out a wind blade toward Jason. Jason reacted swiftly by grabbing one of his own powered humans and using him as a human shield, barely dodging the attack. He did not hesitate any longer and turned to run for his life.Â
The remaining men were frozen in shock. They had come looking for loot and girls, but now they were being wiped out.Â
Chloe was taken aback, too. She had expected a tough fight against multiple powered humans, but they turned out to be surprisingly weak. What she thought would be a brutal battle ended up being much easier than anticipated.Â
The last powered human was taken down by Emily’s crossbow.Â
The remaining guys and the four girls all bolted toward the end of the hallway, where a rope hung for crossing over to the boys‘ dorm..Â
Chloe advanced step by step, with a machete in hand. She watched with a wicked grin as they scrambled in terror. She had no intention of killing them; death was too easy of an escape. Making them live in constant fear was the real punishment.Â
Jason had already fled, being the first to bail. The guys made it across the rope quickly. Then it was the girls‘ turn. Simone, annoyed by how slowly the girl in front of her was moving, gave the rope a rough shake.Â
The girl’s piercing scream cut through the night as she plummeted straight down from the building.Â
The other two girls stared at Simone in horror and practically begged her to go first.Â
Simone whipped around and shot them a hard glare. “You two had better not try anything stupid,” she warned.Â
Once everyone was gone, Chloe strode to the window at the end of the hallway and slashed the rope in half.Â
Emily followed closely behind Chloe. “Why did you not just finish them all off?” she asked.Â
“Because I want them to truly feel how cruel the apocalypse can be,” Chloe answered before turning away.Â
“Where are you going now?” Emily asked.Â
“You should go get some sleep first,” Chloe said. “I am going to gather all the supplies from this entire building.”Â
Chloe had held back before because of those four girls, not wanting them to discover her spiritual space. But now that they were gone, she could loot everything without any reservations.Â
The snow had stopped falling, but the cold only grew more intense. Chloe, however, felt perfectly comfortable in theÂ

freezing air. Her ice power thrived in the chill, growing even stronger.Â
The door to their old dorm was destroyed, so they found another room to stay in.Â
Seeing Emily shivering by the stove, Chloe pulled out a set of clothes from her spiritual space. “Here, this is a polar survival suit. Put it on, and it will keep you warm.”Â
Chloe had originally packed it for herself, but it seemed that she would not need it now. She was dressed in black athletic wear, with her long hair tied back casually. She looked sharp and completely ready for anything.Â
