Chapter 125 

Aurelia flew to Sundale the next day to meet Jessica. 

Once she understood why Aurelia was here, Jessica didn’t give a straight answer. “Aurelia, I’ve always thought you were capable and trustworthy. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been the first to back InquireMind.” 

She switched gears and added, “But asking me for such a big investment without even having a solid proposal doesn’t follow the usual process.” 

Aurelia suddenly realized she was rushing things. 

“Sorry, Ms. Lane. I got ahead of myself. I’ll go back and put together a proper proposal. I hope you’ll consider giving me another shot when it’s ready,” Aurelia said. 

As they walked out of the building, Miranda looked discouraged and asked Aurelia, “Aurelia, what now? Are we really not going to be able to pull this project off?” 

The funding gap was too big. Having a great idea wasn’t enough. 

Aurelia knew it wouldn’t be easy, so she was a bit more composed than Miranda. 

“Let’s head back to Ashmont first,” Aurelia said. 

Miranda glanced at her phone. “Looks like we won’t make the last flight.” 

“What about the high–speed train?” Aurelia asked. 

“It’s Friday, and they’re all sold out,” Miranda replied. 

“Then, let’s go back tomorrow,” Aurelia said. 

‘It’s the weekend anyway, and there’s nothing urgent waiting for us in Ashmont, Aurelia thought. ‘Might as well take it easy and rest up tonight.’ 

Early the next morning, after breakfast, as they headed back to the hotel to grab their luggage, Jessica called to say she was waiting outside their hotel. She was on her way to the airport anyway and offered them a lift. 

The hotel did have an airport shuttle, but Aurelia had a hunch Jessica wanted to talk business, so they got into Jessica’s van. 

Jessica was riding in a business van, with her male secretary and the driver up 

front. 

As Aurelia got in, she noticed Jessica looked a little pale and asked, “Not feeling well, Ms. Lane?” 

“Just my period. Same old problem,” Jessica said, sounding a bit weak. 

The male secretary handed her a cup of hot cocoa he’d brought with him. 

After a few sips, Jessica looked a little better and turned to Aurelia. “Whenever it’s that time of the month for

“It was really nothing, Ms. Lane. You always thank me like it was a huge favor. It’s kind of embarrassing,” Aurelia replied.

“I think what you said at the time was great. Only women can empathize with women, so women should help each other. This is the only way for all women to improve their status in society, have more choices in life, and control their own destiny.” 

Aurelia had said something like that, but she never expected Jessica to run with it and turn it into something so deep. 

“So last night, I thought it over and realized I shouldn’t have treated you that way yesterday,” Jessica said, taking Aurelia’s hand apologetically. “I’m in. I’ll invest in your project.” 

Aurelia didn’t see that coming. It was such an unexpected twist. 

At the same time, she couldn’t help but feel truly grateful for Jessica’s support. 

Back when InquireMind was struggling to get any funding, Jessica was the first to come through when they needed it most. 

“Thank you, Ms. Lane,” Aurelia said, her voice full of heartfelt gratitude. 

“You got this, Aurelia,” Jessica said, giving her a reassuring smile. 

Things were going even better than Aurelia had hoped. The moment she touched down in Ashmont, Benjamin called and asked her to accompany him to a business party that night. ‘Wow, I barely got back and things are already picking up, Aurelia thought. 

Aurelia didn’t waste a second and headed straight to Vanvelle Studio to pick out a gown. 

Since she was going with Benjamin, Aurelia picked out a formal gown. 

Her makeup and styling were simple yet elegant. 

Even the stylist at Vanvelle Studio couldn’t help but compliment her, saying she looked stunning and suggesting she add some jewelry to bring out her elegance. 

Aurelia was at a loss for words. 

She didn’t own a single piece of jewelry worth wearing. 

She’d spent the last seven years totally neglecting herself. 

“Got any jewelry you’d recommend?” Aurelia asked the stylist. 

“There are a few pieces left, but not sure if any will catch your eye. All the good stuff was scooped up by one of our regular VIPS,” the stylist replied. 

“Let me take a look,” Aurelia said.

The stylist wasn’t exaggerating. The jewelry that was left was pretty meh. 

In the end. Aurelia walked away empty–handed. 

With some time left after getting her makeup and hair done, Aurelia decided to head over to the Locke family home to pick up Benjamin. 

When Abigail saw her, her eyes lit up. “Aurelia, you look absolutely gorgeous today.” 

“Thanks for the compliment, Abigail,” Aurelia said with a smile. 

It is always a pleasant thing to be praised by others. 

“Mr. Locke should be just about ready. I’ll go and call him,” Abigail said. 

Aurelia waited in the living room for about five minutes before Benjamin entered, leaning on his cane. 

Abigail followed close behind, holding a box in her hands. 

Once Benjamin reached Aurelia, he gestured to Abigail. 

Abigail opened the box, revealing a set of extremely rare sapphire jewelry inside the box. 

Just one look and it was obvious. These pieces were seriously expensive. 

“Mr. Locke picked these out for you. They match your dress perfectly. Let me help you put them on,” Abigail said warmly. 

Aurelia quickly shook her head. “I can’t. They’re far too valuable. I really shouldn’t accept them.” 

“They were always meant for you,” Benjamin said gently. “These belonged to my wife. They’ve been sitting here for years, unused. It’s a shame to let them stay hidden away. Jewelry like this deserves to be worn and shine again.” 

But Aurelia still felt it was too much and couldn’t bring herself to accept them. ‘My mom always taught me from a young age not to take gifts that are too valuable from others,‘ Aurelia thought. 

Benjamin’s expression turned icy, his voice hard. “If you don’t accept them, don’t ever come see me again. And you can forget about the party, too.” 

Aurelia hesitated, “Mr. Locke…” 

“Don’t call me that either,” Benjamin snapped. 

Aurelia was silent. 

Abigail quietly tugged at her sleeve. “Just take them, my dear. He really wants you to have them.” 

They still had to get to the party, and if this held them up, Aurelia would feel guilty. 

In the end, Aurelia had no choice but to accept them. “Alright, I’ll take them for now,” she said.

“That’s the spirit! Come on, let me help you put them on,” Abigail said cheerfully, carefully fastening the jewelry onto Aurelia. 

Benjamin’s face softened considerably. 

The deep blue of the Kashmir sapphires stood out against Aurelia’s black gown, highlighting the depth and beauty of the gems. 

Abigail couldn’t stop praising her. “You look absolutely stunning!” 

Even Benjamin couldn’t help but say, “Not bad.” 

“Mr. Locke, you’re not mad at me anymore. So, can we go to the party now?” Aurelia said, playing nicely. 

“Let’s go,” Benjamin replied, his voice surprisingly light. 

When they arrived at the party, the place was already buzzing with people.
