Chapter 130Â
He calmly moved away before Tessa could notice.Â
Aurelia hadn’t expected to run into Wade. “Thanks,” she said.Â
“Where’s the umbrella I gave you?” Wade asked, glancing at the rain outside, which was getting heavier.Â
“It’s in my bag. I always keep it with me. It’s really convenient,” Aurelia replied, patting her bag.Â
Wade’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “Then why didn’t you use it?”Â
“I thought I’d be fine,” Aurelia said.Â
“Next time, watch out. Even if the rain’s not cold, getting soaked is never fun,” he told her.Â
They hadn’t talked for long when Miranda showed up.Â
Aurelia was about to hand the jacket back to Wade.Â
But he said, “Just keep it on. You can give it back to me another time.”Â
There was a car waiting behind Miranda, so Aurelia didn’t linger. She said goodbye to Wade and got in the car to leave.Â
After getting home and taking a shower, Aurelia stayed up all night refining her business plan.Â
The last time she went to Sundale to meet Jessica, she almost blew her chance at Jessica’s investment because she hadn’t been fully prepared.Â
She was determined never to make the same mistake twice; that was Aurelia’s motto.Â
She was pretty experienced when it came to putting together business plans.Â
But when she first started out, she loved spinning dramatic tales just like everyone else did.Â
Cassian called her out in front of everyone at a pitch meeting, saying her so–called business plan was more like a comedy show than anything serious.Â
He even joked that she should submit her stories to some story magazine and maybe she’d earn a couple of bucks in writer’s fees.Â
Aurelia was so upset she cried her eyes out in the bathroom that day, and she didn’t speak to Cassian for ages after.Â
As far as she could remember, that was the only time Cassian ever showed her a softer side.Â
He brought food to her tiny rented place. That was the only time in seven years he’d ever visited her home.Â
That night, he comforted her, making sure she was fed and felt cared for.Â

He even walked her through, step by step, how to write a business plan, telling her it was all about convincing people with data, not emotional tales.Â
But afterward, he still griped that her rented place was too cramped and her bed was way too hard.Â
And since then, he never once went back to the tiny apartment.Â
Aurelia kept working on her plan until ten at night, when Miranda texted her that she’d had some food delivered and told her to eat before getting back to work.Â
Aurelia was curious. “How did you know I was working overtime?”Â
Miranda replied, “I just knew you’d be working late on your business plan, so I sent you some food. Eat first, then get back to it! I finally got your stomach back to normal. Don’t mess it up again.”Â
“Sure,” Aurelia said.Â
Having a caring assistant like Miranda was honestly a blessing.Â
She hadn’t really eaten much during dinner earlier, so her stomach was starting to growl now.Â
Miranda’s food arrived right on cue.Â
The next day, Aurelia met with Samuel from the Chamber of Commerce to discuss the project.Â
After going through the business plan, Samuel’s interest was clearly piqued.Â
But he also considered the risks of the project and set a requirement for Aurelia.Â
Once the meeting was wrapped up, Aurelia shot Tyson a text: “All sorted on my end. How’s your side coming along?”Â
Ever since Tyson realized Aurelia had set her sights on the port renovation project, he’d been working overtime, tapping into InquireMind’s cutting–edge algorithms to enhance the project’s core and stack the odds in her favor.Â
Tyson messaged back almost instantly: “All smooth sailing here.”Â
Aurelia instantly felt her confidence soar.Â
Then, Miranda texted her a reminder to take her medicine.Â
It was the prescription Dr. Wright had given her to help her stay healthy.Â
Aurelia opened her thermos and found it empty, so she asked the restaurant staff for some hot water.Â
The staff brought her a disposable cup, filled a little too full.Â
As he handed it over, he warned her to be careful not to burn herself.Â
Aurelia thanked the staff, grabbed a chair in the waiting area, and planned to let the water cool off a bit beforeÂ

taking her meds.Â
:Â
While she waited, she sent Scott a quick text to check how things were going on his side.Â
She was so caught up in her phone that she didn’t notice a kid suddenly barreling straight toward her.Â
Worried the hot water might splash on him, Aurelia quickly dodged to the side.Â
The water sloshed out of the cup and spilled all over the back of her hand.Â
Aurelia hissed in pain from the burn, but still managed to catch the kid with her other hand, stopping him from crashing into a flowerpot.Â
Even so, he still tumbled to the floor and burst into loud cries.Â
The kid’s mom came rushing out, saw her son crying, and her expression changed in a flash.Â
When she saw Aurelia grabbing her kid by the collar, she went off on her, shouting, “Who do you think you are, bullying a kid like this? You look ordinary, but you’re so shameless!”Â
Aurelia just froze for a second, stunned by the sudden tirade.Â
Her hand was still stinging from the burn, so she couldn’t react right away.Â
Just as Aurelia was about to snap back, a familiar, cold voice cut in from the side. “Ugly and blind, huh? Are you brainless or what? Can’t you see she just saved your kid’s life?”Â
His words left the woman completely dumbfounded.Â
Cassian didn’t even bother with the woman. He walked straight over, gently took Aurelia’s wrist, and examined the spot where the hot water had burned her hand.Â
Aurelia was left totally baffled.Â
‘What’s Cassian doing now?‘ she wondered.Â
‘Is he sticking up for me?‘ Aurelia thought, surprised.Â
‘Did he really have to meddle in my business?‘ Aurelia griped to herself.Â
“That’s a burn. We’re going to the hospital,” Cassian said after checking her hand, his expression turning evenÂ
colder.Â
His tone left no room for argument.Â
Aurelia pulled her hand away, her voice frosty. “None of your business.”Â
Seeing that Cassian and Aurelia weren’t on the same side, the woman got even more fired up. “My son was walking just fine! If she hadn’t yanked him by the collar, would he have fallen?”Â
With his mom jumping in, the kid started screaming his head off, his howls taking over the whole restaurantÂ

lobby.Â
“Shut up!”Â
“Shut up!”Â
:Â
Two voices, one male and one female, shouted in unison.Â
The kid was so startled that he actually shut up.Â

Aurelia didn’t bother dealing with Cassian and went straight for the woman. “Your kid barreled right at me without looking. I had hot water in my cup, so I pulled my hand back to keep him from getting burned and ended up burning myself instead. I grabbed him by the collar so he wouldn’t smash into the vase.”Â
“Oh, like I’m supposed to just take your word for it?” the woman snapped, still refusing to back down.Â
She was so unreasonable. It’s no wonder her kid was such a brat.Â
Aurelia’s patience finally snapped. “Fine, let’s pull up the security cameras! And my hand got burned because of him, so you, as his mom, are totally responsible!”Â
The woman looked a little rattled, but she refused to back down. She snapped, “Fine, let’s check the cameras! Don’t think I’m scared of you!”Â
Just then, her husband came out, and she ran straight to him, whining, “Honey, they’re bullying our son! Are you just going to stand there and do nothing?”Â
The man’s face fell the moment he recognized Cassian. He said nervously, “Mr. Locke, I’m so sorry. My son was out of line. I apologize on his behalf.”Â
“Apologising to me?” Cassian shot him a frosty look.Â
The guy caught on quickly and turned to Aurelia, apologizing, sounding genuinely sorry.Â
He even ordered his wife and kid to apologize to Aurelia, too, and said he’d pay for her hospital bills.Â
All that arrogance from before was gone in a flash.Â
Clearly, he must’ve needed something from Cassian. No wonder he suddenly turned into a total coward.Â
Aurelia didn’t bother arguing with the kid. She just shrugged and said, “Whatever.”Â
Cassian told the man, “Cover the medical bills and send the money to me. And if you’re going to have kids, raise them properly. Don’t expect others to do your job for you.”Â
With that, he didn’t give the guy another glance, just took Aurelia by the hand and headed out.Â
“What the hell are you doing? Let go of me!” Aurelia yelled, yanking her hand back, her eyes blazing withÂ
anger.Â
