Chapter 40Â
Chloe tried to move away. The leopard just watched her warily, showing no sign of attacking again.Â
She made a break for the exit but the second she moved, a low growl rumbled from the side. A huge shape shot forward. blocking the warehouse door completely.Â
The already dim space went even darker. Chloe frowned, thinking, ‘So it won’t let me near, won’t let me leave, but allow me to grab supplies?‘Â
Chloe glanced over at the guy lying unconscious nearby. Even out cold, he gave off this crazy powerful vibe. She thought, ‘Wait. Is this big furball trying to get me to save its owner?‘Â
The spotted leopard kept growling, but its eyes were almost pleading.Â
Chloe looked from the stacks of supplies to the guy on the ground. She made up her mind, thinking, ‘Whatever. I’ll just load everything into my spiritual space first.’Â
Back in her previous life, Hevenseale got wrecked–storms, quakes, the whole city swallowed into nothing within six months.Â
Since the city was doomed anyway, Chloe might as well take it all. Half an hour later, she’d swept up every usable thing into her storage. Only junk left behind.Â
But the leopard hadn’t budged. It was blocking the door and staring at Chloe.Â
“Heh, thanks. Here for you,” Chloe said, tossing some food its way. “I’m out of here now.”Â
But the leopard ignored the food. It started pacing restlessly, like it was trying to tell Chloe something but couldn’t drop its guard.Â
“You… don’t want me to leave?” Chloe ventured.Â
To her shock, the beast dipped its giant head and nodded.Â
Chloe jerked back. She pointed at the motionless guy in the shadows, then at herself. “You want me to save him, right?”Â
The leopard nodded again. Finally, it crept closer and tugged at Chloe’s pant leg with its paw, pulling her toward the man.Â
Honestly, the leopard was totally annoyed. It was a proud mutant beast, noble bloodline and all. Tugging a human’s pant leg like this was totally beneath it.Â
But for its master, it would swallow its pride. It felt that if Chloe walked away now, its master wasn’t gonna last till the next human showed up.Â
“Look, I’m not a doctor. I can’t help him,” Chloe said, shaking her head. The guy was messed up. She couldn’t see his face clearly, but the dangerous energy rolling off him was scarier than the leopard.Â
Even if she wanted to help, and she didn’t, she had no idea how. Suddenly she called out, “Hey! Stop dragging me. I told you. I don’t know what to do.”Â
But the leopard wasn’t letting go. It clamped down harder, nearly yanking her pants off.Â
As Chloe kept refusing, the beast’s pleading eyes sharpened into something deadly. It thought, ‘Humans are all liars, except my master. If Master died, no human was leaving this warehouse alive!‘Â
The leopard rose to its full height, staring down at Chloe like she was some bug under its paw. The air went heavy, thick with killing intent.Â

Chapter 40Â
Chloe shivered. She kept her cool on the outside, but the hand holding her dagger was trembling, slick with cold sweat.Â
Trying to calm things down and maybe find an opening. Chloe reluctantly walked over to the man.Â
The leopard followed closely, still watching Chloe like a hawk. Then, out of nowhere, it pulled a bag from somewhere, held it in its mouth, and pawed at the ground until two piles spilled out.Â
Chloe’s eyes went wide. “W–What… is all this?”Â
Stunned, she watched as the leopard dragged over a huge bundle and dropped it on the floor. The smaller bag was stuffed with more than a dozen level–2 mutant zombie cores, and the big one was packed with over a hundred regular level–2 zombie cores.Â
‘Oh my god!’ Chloe thought, her mind spinning.Â
The leopard nudged the piles toward her.Â
Chloe swallowed, totally dazzled. “So, you’re saying that if I save him, all this is mine?”Â
The leopard nodded.Â
“Deal!” Adrenaline shot through her veins. Even after five years in the apocalypse in her previous life, she’d never seen so many cores in one place. She hit the jackpot.Â
Chloe carefully rolled the man onto his back. The man was insanely good–looking. Shawn, the campus heartthrob, wasn’t even in the same league.Â
He was tall, likely around six feet three, with sharp, rugged features. His sword–shaped brows arched toward his temples, eyes shut beneath long lashes. His nose was high and straight, and his body, pure muscle, was as hard as steel, exuding raw power.Â
He was seriously dangerous. Even unconscious, his presence was overwhelming. Chloe kinda just wanted to run.Â
But then she glanced back at those cores. She felt the man look familiar, like she’d seen him somewhere before, but she couldn’t place it.Â
Chloe reached for his wrist to check his pulse, and her expression shifted. Not only because he was seriously injured, but also because she could actually sense exactly what was wrong. But she knew nothing about medicine.Â
Feeling something weird, Chloe put her hand on his wrist again and focused on her own powers. Her plant power was actually sending out a gentle flow of green energy.Â
‘Whoa, this isn’t just plant power at all. It’s some kind of combo of healing and plant powers,‘ Chloe realized, totally floored. ‘I can attack with plant power and heal people at the same time? I’ve never even heard of anyone with something like this before.’Â
Closing her eyes, Chloe guided the green energy through the man. Wherever it touched, his body slowly began to mend. She fought back the shock bubbling up inside and kept working, searching for hidden injuries, repairing as she went.Â
Finally, the man on the ground twitched. His eyelids fluttered like he was fighting to wake up. A moment later, his fingers moved slightly.Â
Chloe didn’t notice that but the leopard behind her did. It felt that the suffocating aura of death around the man was fading, replaced by a flicker of life. Its big eyes blinked, and a single tear slipped out.Â
