Mia was fuming, ready to snap back, but Aurelia quickly covered her mouth.

Aurelia was surprisingly calm, her face completely blank. “She’s just drunk and spouting nonsense. If you want to call the lawyers, go ahead.” 

Without caring about Cassian’s reaction, Aurelia grabbed Mia and pulled her out of there. 

But before they could get far, Cassian yanked Aurelia back by the arm. 

“Make it clear. Whose life do I owe?” he demanded. 

Aurelia turned back, and buried emotions glinted in her eyes. “Are you sure you want to know?” 

His grip on her arm kept tightening and loosening, over and over, as if he were fighting himself. 

Aurelia sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Guess you don’t really want the truth. Not that you deserve it anyway.” 

After Aurelia dragged Mia out, the VIP room was left in dead silence. 

Jasper looked like he wanted to say something more than once, but in the end, he didn’t dare utter a word. 

Ten minutes later, Cassian snatched up his coat and stormed out. 

Liam, who’d watched the whole thing go down, finished off his drink, propped his chin on one hand, and turned to Jasper. “So, who do you think Cassian really loves?” 

Jasper didn’t even hesitate. “No doubt about it. It’s Tessa.” 

After all, he’d seen it with his own eyes. 

Mia couldn’t hold her liquor like Aurelia, so as soon as they got back to their place, she passed out. 

But Aurelia couldn’t get any sleep at all. Images flickered in her mind–quick, blurry, slipping away before she could grasp them. 

Not wanting to wake Mia, Aurelia decided to get up and slipped out onto the little balcony to clear her head. 

Somehow, a gentle rain had started, tapping quietly against the leaves overhead. The damp air only made her chest feel heavier. 

Before heading back inside, Aurelia spotted a familiar silver–topped Maybach parked by the curb. 

It was tucked away in such a hidden spot that, if it hadn’t been for the wind and rain, she probably wouldn’t have noticed it at all. 

Under the streetlights, she saw the man standing beneath the tree.

The rain wasn’t heavy, and the leaves overhead offered some cover, but his clothes were completely soaked. He must’ve been standing there for a long time. 

‘But what’s the point?‘ Aurelia thought to herself. 

If it had been seven years ago, she might have been moved. Now, it all just felt pointless. 

Real feelings change too easily. Aurelia no longer expected anything from anyone, and was no longer the person who always had to win, always nitpicking and keeping score. 

So without a second thought, Aurelia turned around, shut the balcony door behind her, and crawled back into bed. 

‘If he wanted to stand out there in the rain, let him get drenched all he wanted.’ Aurelia thought. 

The next morning, while Aurelia was eating the breakfast Mia had made, she told her about what she’d seen last night. 

“What a phony! Why couldn’t it have hailed last night and knocked that bastard out?” Mia cursed loudly, with full sincerity. 

After venting, she still made sure to comfort Aurelia. “Aurelia, you have to stay firm. Move forward!” 

“I will,” Aurelia replied. 

Ever since Aurelia decided to walk away, she’d never once thought about turning back. Whether she messed up or missed out, regret just wasn’t something she had time for. 

Rationality and detachment became her beliefs now. 

After seeing Mia off, Aurelia called Miranda and asked her to find a place for her to move into–preferably by the end of the week. 

Miranda replied, “Leave it to me!” 

Aurelia made another trip to Ascent Group. 

This time, she was greeted by the vice president, who explained, “Ms. Rowe was supposed to meet with you, but I just got a call. She came down with a cold after looking after Mr. Locke, so she can’t make it today.” 

“Their relationship is too good,” the vice president gossiped cheerfully. “She even postponed an important meeting just to take care of him!” 

After Aurelia discussed the matter with the Ascent Group, they assured her that they’d be more attentive and 

clear in their future communications. 

As soon as Aurelia walked into the office that afternoon, Miranda popped up and announced, “Your new place is ready to go!” 

Miranda was so on top of things that Aurelia couldn’t help but shower her with praise.

“I figured you’d want to move out soon, so I’ve been scouting places for you,” Miranda grinned. 

After work, Aurelia went to check out the apartment. It was a spacious, newly renovated flat that matched her. preferences perfectly. 

Miranda explained, “The owner had originally prepared it as her son’s wedding home, but what came as news to her was that her son was gay.” 

She continued, “She was so furious that she posted it for sale online, but the housing market crashed, and no one bought it, so she had to rent it out cheaply.” 

The rent was just twice as much as her old studio, but this place was huge, fully renovated, and had a panoramic view. 

Aurelia loved it the moment she saw it and signed the lease immediately. 

Moving became a process of letting go. Aurelia threw away many things and felt lighter with each item gone. 

Early Saturday morning, Miranda arrived with the movers. 

Once all their stuff was loaded onto the truck, Aurelia told Miranda to go ahead to the new apartment first. 

“I need to take care of something,” Aurelia said. 

Once Miranda was gone, Aurelia walked over to the artificial lake by the building, all by herself. 

It wasn’t far, but it felt like she had walked for a very long time. 

The sky was overcast, a soft breeze drifting through. 

Aurelia stood at the water’s edge for a while, then hurled something from her tightly clenched hand into the lake with all her strength. 

It was the last thing tying her to Cassian. 

And it was something Cassian would never know existed.

Mid–March, spring was in the air. 

Aurelia and Tyson were invited to the government’s Entrepreneurs Summit. 

They’d barely set foot in the venue when they bumped into a familiar face, 

It was Liam, and Jasper was with him. 

Aurelia had heard that Steven’s condition had recently worsened, forcing him to hand the company over to Jasper temporarily. 

So this time, Jasper must be attending on his behalf.

As soon as Liam spotted Aurelia, he greeted her warmly. “Ms. Corin, it has been a while.” 

Truth is, it hadn’t been that long. He was just trying to make conversation.

Aurelia wanted to say that, while it was her first time attending as a business owner, she’d actually been to events like this before. 

Back in the day, she used to come with Cassian all the time, so she knew the drill inside out. 

But she thanked Liam anyway. 

“Oh, by the way, the beauty plums on Plum Hills are blooming. Aurelia, have you gone to see them this spring?” Liam asked. 

“I’ve just been too busy with work,” Aurelia replied. 

“That’s a shame, seasonal scenery only lasts so long. If you can, you really should take a look,” Liam said. 

While Liam was still making small talk, Tessa and Karlie showed up. 

Karlie had tagged along with Tessa on purpose, specifically because she’d heard Liam was going to be at the summit. 

Tessa was standing in for Cassian at the event. 

Jasper walked right up to her and called out, “Tessa, this way!” 

Noticing he was by himself, Tessa asked, “Liam’s not with you?” 

“He’s over there,” Jasper said casually. 

Tessa and Karlie both turned to look, only to see Liam and Aurelia chatting and laughing together. 

Karlie’s expression darkened instantly, and Tessa frowned too. 

‘Since when were those two so chummy?‘ both Tessa and Karlie wondered.
