Aurelia finally came to a halt. Cassian gave her the supplements and just left, saying not a single word. He was acting so normal, it actually felt strange to her.Â
As soon as Aurelia got home, she called Abigail. Abigail picked up right away and asked if she’d gotten the supplements. Aurelia said she’d just received them.Â
“Cassian must’ve been waiting for quite a while,” Abigail murmured.Â
Aurelia called with a purpose. She needed to tell Abigail not to ask Cassian to bring her medicine again. There was no chance for anything between them anymore.Â
Tyson always said Aurelia was calm whenever Cassian was around, and Aurelia didn’t deny it. But nobody knew the price she’d paid, or how many nights she’d cried herself to sleep to look so calm. Only a fool would ever make the same mistake again.Â
“Abigail, from now on, please don’t ask Cassian to bring me the supplements. Outside of work, I don’t want anything to do with him,” Aurelia said firmly.Â
Abigail was quiet for a long time before she finally let out a long sigh. “Okay, I get it.”Â
“Or you could just give me the prescription, and I’ll go get the supplements myself and have the pharmacy brew it up,” Aurelia suggested.Â
“Just having the prescription isn’t enough. Some of the ingredients are difficult to obtain. I only manage to get them because I know people out in the countryside,” Abigail explained gently. “Don’t worry about troubling me, you know I never mind. Besides, I’ve got way more experience making this stuff, and I’m extra careful with it.”Â
After another sigh, Abigail spoke softly, “Aurelia, just because you and Cassian broke up, are you going to shut me out, too? He may not say much, but I know he truly cares about you. He’s always quietly following your career and making sure you’re doing well.”Â
Aurelia could cut ties with Cassian and feel no guilt. After giving him everything she had, she owed him nothing anymore. But when it came to Abigail and her husband, she couldn’t turn her back on them.Â
“Abigail, I’m not trying to avoid you. I worry about bothering you. But if you really don’t mind, I’ll let you keep making the supplements,” Aurelia said gently.Â
“Just please don’t ask Cassian to deliver it anymore. I can come pick it up myself, or have it delivered. It’s super easy these days. If you’re not sure how, call me and I’ll place the order for you,” she added.Â
“Alright, it’s up to you,” Abigail replied.Â
Finally, Aurelia managed to put a smile back on Abigail’s face, and she finally felt relieved.Â
*****Â
After mulling it over, Aurelia finally decided she had to see her professor. She didn’t want to upset him, so she planned to drop by a day early. But first, she needed to prepare a decent apology gift.Â

She reached out to an auctioneer she’d worked with before, asking if there were any upcoming auctions with interesting paintings or art pieces.Â
The auctioneer sent over a list of upcoming events, and Aurelia spotted two lots that caught her eye. The dates worked out perfectly, so Aurelia had Miranda adjust her schedule to accommodate the auction.Â
The auction was on Monday, and as soon as Aurelia wrapped up her meeting, she headed straight over.Â
As soon as she walked in, she ran into Cassian in the lobby. It wasn’t like she was paying special attention to him. Cassian just had that kind of presence. Whether it was his physique or his looks, he always stood out. Even in a crowd, he was impossible to miss.Â
From Cassian’s posture, it was obvious he was waiting for someone. Just as Aurelia was about to step into the auction hall, Tessa showed up. As it turned out, Tessa was the one he’d been waiting for.Â
Aurelia had attended plenty of auctions before, but it was always to bid on items for Cassian. That was actually how she ended up knowing the auctioneer.Â
The auctioneer didn’t know she’d quit Honoria Capital, so he just assumed she was representing Cassian again and ushered her right into the VIP area.Â
Before Aurelia even realized what was going on, she was already standing at the edge of the VIP section. “I’m sorry, Ms. Morales, I forgot to mention. Actually, I’m not bidding for Cassian this time,” Aurelia said quickly. “I’m just here for myself today.”Â
Andra Morales, the auctioneer, looked surprised for a moment, then nodded, “Okay, I’ll take you to the regular area.” After all, only top members get access to the VIP section at these auctions.Â
Just as Aurelia and Andra were heading toward the back, Cassian and Tessa arrived with their group. Jasper was among them, and they were talking together.Â
Jasper, especially, was speaking so loudly that Aurelia could easily hear him from where she stood. “Oh, I see how it is! You two are here to pick out engagement gifts. Tessa gets to choose, and Cassian gets to pay.Â
“And me? I’m just here to be the third wheel and watch you two be all lovey–dovey!”Â
Tessa laughed, trying to comfort him, “Help me out! There’s so much to choose from, I need backup.”Â
“Alright, I’ll bid on something for you lovebirds as an engagement present,” Jasper said.Â
“You really don’t have to go all out,” Tessa said.Â
“No way, this is a big deal for you two. Of course I’m getting you something!” Jasper insisted.Â
Jasper was still cracking jokes when he turned around and got so startled he stammered, “A–Aurelia?”Â
Aurelia brushed right past the three of them calmly and headed for the back row. After that, Jasper immediately shut up, totally intimidated by Aurelia’s attitude.Â
Cassian showed no reaction as he led Tessa and Jasper to their VIP seats right up front, with the best view in the house. Aurelia, on the other hand, was seated almost all the way in the last row. Two whole sections wereÂ

separating them, but she didn’t mind.Â

Aurelia was there for one reason: to bid on the pieces she wanted. She didn’t bother anyone else. Especially to pay attention to Cassian and his group. She focused on her phone, handling work stuff, and even messaged Curlison about the project.Â
Since she’d decided to invest in Curlison’s project, she needed to help him get his studio up and running first. She’d assigned Miranda Price to help Curlison out recently, and whenever she had a free moment, she’d drop by to check on the progress herself.Â
Up front, Jasper kept fidgeting in his seat, unable to relax. Whenever he saw Aurelia, he’d get all nervous and skittish, like a mouse spotting a cat, and he couldn’t even explain why.Â
Liam claimed Aurelia had traumatized him so badly that he had PTSD. Honestly, that description was pretty accurate. But he’d never admit it out loud. Just remembering that ten–thousand–word self–critique he spent a whole week grinding out was enough to make him shudder.Â
And then there was that hundred million dollars in compensation that just went up in smoke. And the fifty million he later poured into that port renovation project was gone. The real kicker? His dad was still laid up in the hospital.Â
Aurelia was quite a character. It was like she was his natural nemesis, born to mess with him. No way he could afford to cross her. She was the trouble he couldn’t handle.Â
Jasper shot Liam a quick text: [What are you up to?]Â
Liam replied: [Working late.]Â
[Ditch overtime and come to the auction! Cassian and Tessa are both here!]Â
Liam immediately replied: [No time.]Â
He had zero interest in being a third wheel.Â
Jasper clicked his tongue and replied: [Aurelia’s here too. It’s the ultimate showdown! Are you sure you want front–row seats for all the drama?]Â
After he sent that, Liam didn’t reply at all. ‘Guess he’s really swamped,‘ Jasper thought to himself.Â
don’tÂ
With ten minutes to go before the auction kicked off, Jasper headed to the restroom and lit up a cigarette while he was at it. But when he came back, he nearly dropped his cigarette. Liam was sitting right next to Aurelia. Jasper stared, dumbfounded.Â
‘Am I hallucinating? Didn’t this guy say he couldn’t make it? And it only took him ten minutes? Seriously? What is he, a teleporter or something?‘Â
