Chapter 174Â
Aurelia didn’t pick up.Â
:Â
But Liam must’ve had something urgent, because he called again.Â
Aurelia picked up and asked, “What’s up?”Â

Liam fumbled for words for a while before finally saying, “Those fireworks… Cassian set them off to make Tessa happy.”Â
Aurelia was speechless.Â
‘Just my luck,’ Aurelia thought.Â
She mumbled a quick thanks and hung up, then opened Instagram to delete her post, but saw someone had already liked it.Â
She checked the username. It was “Cool Down.”Â
‘Good, at least it’s not someone from Cassian’s crew,‘ Aurelia thought, and deleted the post without hesitation.Â
Liam texted her again, asking what time she was flying back to Ashmont tomorrow.Â
Assuming he needed something for work, Aurelia replied with her flight details.Â
But the next day, to her surprise, Liam showed up at the airport to pick herÂ
- up.Â
Aurelia asked, “Is there something urgent?”Â
“No,” Liam replied.Â
He couldn’t really come up with a good excuse.Â
So he just came clean. “I just wanted to pick you up.”Â
Aurelia was at a loss for words, feeling a bit awkward about the whole thing.Â
But Liam clearly meant well, and it felt weird to turn him down flat.Â
Plus, their companies were still in partnership, so she figured it was best to play along. With a resigned sigh, she hopped into Liam’s car.Â
As soon as Liam’s car drove off, Tessa noticed.Â
She hesitated for a split second, her face going cold.Â
Cassian asked, “What’s wrong?”Â
“Nothing,” Tessa said quickly, turning her gaze away and getting into the car, acting like it was no big deal.Â

But while Cassian was driving, she texted Alina.Â
She asked if Alina had met Mandy lately, and if she’d talked to her about Aurelia.Â
29.00Â
Alina replied, [Mrs. Porter just got back from a vacation yesterday. I’m meeting her for afternoon tea today]Â
Tessa reminded her, [Make it quick.]Â
She was worried that if they dragged things out, Liam might end up falling for Aurelia’s tricksÂ
It was the weekend, and Aurelia planned to spend time with Ella, so she had Liam drop her off right at the entrance of her building.Â
Ella happened to be coming downstairs to take out the trash, and her face lit up when she saw Aurelia.Â
Liam even helped Aurelia with her luggage. When he met Ella, he was extra polite, greeting her.Â
Ella couldn’t help but give him a few extra glances.Â
Once Liam left, Ella turned to Aurelia and asked, “Who was that guy? He’s pretty good–looking and seems well–mannered.”Â
Aurelia instantly caught on to what Ella was thinking and nipped that thought in the bud. “Oh. him? He’s part of Cassian’s crew.”Â
Ella’s expression flipped in a second. “No way! Anyone who runs with Cassian is just the same. Birds of a feather! No way, and no way.”Â
Aurelia nodded, totally agreeing. “Same here.”Â
As soon as Aurelia got home, before she could even sit down, Ella jumped right in about a blind date. This guy’s pretty decent. He’s got a stable government job, you know.”Â
“Mom!” Aurelia groaned, totally exasperated.Â
“No use complaining. I’ve already set it up. Here’s the address. You’re meeting him this afternoon. Ella said, handing her a slip of paper.Â
Aurelia was speechless.Â
‘Should’ve just stayed away, Aurelia thought.Â
Aurelia got roped into a blind date by her mom.Â
The guy was totally smug, showing off from the start. “I’m a government employee, Department of Urban Planning and Resources.”Â
Aurelia just gave a noncommittal nod. “Right.”Â
The guy raised an eyebrow. “You know what that means?”Â

Aurelia smiled. “Yeah, I know about it.”Â

“Why?” The guy thought to himself, ‘Bet a pretty face like hers doesn’t know much about this stuff: Aurelia took a sip of her coffee before answering coolly, “Because we work on government projects, too”Â
The guy’s face stiffened for a second, but his arrogance didn’t waver.Â
“Once we get married, I want you to quit your job and stay home as a housewife,” he said, like it was the most normal thing in the world.Â
Aurelia didn’t get upset. She just sat there, listening calmly. “Anything else?” she asked.Â
The guy said, “My family expects me to get married this year, have a kid next year, take a year off, then have another one. Ideally, a boy and a girl.Â
“Oh, after we’re married, we’ll be living with my parents. I’m their only child, so if I move out, they’ll be lonely. My mom’s picky about food and has stomach issues, so meals have to be made just right and served on time. My dad’s a light sleeper, so the house needs to stay quiet. He doesn’t eat breakfast until ten, so you’ll have to cook four times a day.Â
“And if I have to work late or go out for business dinners, you’ll need to have something ready for me to eat when I get home.”Â
Aurelia just nodded, not saying a word.Â
The guy, thinking she was totally on board, got even more cocky. “So, what about you? Got any demands? Just so you know, the wedding gift has to be reasonable, and you’ll be bringing it back with you.”Â
Aurelia took her time, speaking slowly. “I don’t have any demands, but I do have a question.”Â
Still thinking she was okay with everything, the guy kept his smug attitude. “Go ahead, ask.”Â
“Are your parents tough enough to handle a beating? I hit pretty hard. Most people can’t take it,” Aurelia said, totally deadpan.Â
Dude was stunned into silence.Â
Feeling bored and done with this nonsense, Aurelia flagged down the waiter to pay the bill and bounced.Â
But out of nowhere, the guy across from her stood up quickly, looking super respectful. “Mr. Lautner, you’re eating here too.”Â
WadeÂ
gave a slight nod, then looked at Aurelia with a gentle gaze. “Ms. Corin, long time no see.”Â
“Long time no see,” Aurelia replied, not expecting to run into Wade here at all.Â
Seeing how familiar they seemed, the blind date guy asked Aurelia, “You know Mr. Lautner?”Â
Before Aurelia could answer, Wade interjected, “Ms. Corin is the one in charge of our port project.”Â

Wade ignored him completely and turned to Aurelia. “I remember you still owe me a meal, Ms. Corin. Why not make it today?”Â
“Sure,” Aurelia replied.Â
The blind date guy jumped up right away. “Mr. Lautner, this way, please.”Â
He was obviously trying to suck up to Wade.Â
Too bad for him. Wade didn’t give the guy a chance. He turned to Aurelia and said, “Let’s go to a private room. It’s not convenient out here.”Â
Aurelia didn’t mind at all. She grabbed her bag and headed off with Wade toward the private room.Â
The blind date guy tried to follow, desperate not to miss his shot at brown–nosing the boss.Â
But Wade glanced back and said, “When I said ‘not convenient,‘ I meant you. Got it?”Â
As the guy’s face cracked, Wade walked off with Aurelia.Â
Once they were settled in the private room, Wade got straight to the point. “Blind date?”Â
Aurelia shrugged, feeling resigned. “No choice. My mom’s making me do it.”Â
Wade nodded, a hint of sympathy in his voice. “I understand.”Â
He’d been hounded about marriage by his own family, too.Â
The two of them shared a wry, knowing smile.Â
Wade took a sip of his coffee, trying to steady himself before speaking. “I mentioned before that I wanted to get to know you better. Have you given it any thought?”Â
Aurelia was caught off guard by his sudden question and nearly choked on her coffee.Â
She realized Wade was the type who always said what was on his mind without beating around the bush.Â
That was exactly why she found it so hard to answer.Â
Wade caught her hesitation and pressed on, “Hey, since we’re both getting nagged about marriage, how about we treat this like a blind date and see what happens?”Â
Â
