Chapter 180 

Wade had just hung up when Kyler’s call came through. 

He picked up while driving. 

Kyler asked, “Where are you?” 

Wade replied, “Something came up. Can’t make it. You guys have fun without me.” 

“No way! You finally made it back to Northvale, and everyone’s been waiting to hang out with you,” Kyler said. 

Wade just said, “Next time,” and ended the call. 

Kyler had stuck around mainly because he was waiting for Wade to show up. 

But now that Wade couldn’t make it, Kyler lost interest, waved to his friends, and headed out early. 

The driver told Kyler that he was almost there, so Kyler decided to head outside and wait. 

As soon as he stepped out the front door, he saw a familiar car speed past. 

Kyler froze, confused as hell. 

He thought, ‘Wait, isn’t it Wade’s car? 

‘He’s already here, but told me he couldn’t make it?‘ 

But what really caught Kyler off guard was that there was a woman in Wade’s car. 

‘Whoever she is, she must be pretty important to Wade if she can make him ditch his friends,‘ Kyler thought. 

The car was moving too fast for Kyler to get a good look at the woman inside, but he thought she looked familiar. 

She kind of looked like Aurelia. 

But he couldn’t be sure. 

Kyler figured he was probably just overthinking things. ‘There’s no way Wade would ever be interested in Aurelia,‘ he told himself. 

The Lautner family wasn’t an average family. They set the bar really high for whoever Wade would end up with. 

Either it had to be a powerhouse pairing, with Wade finding some top–tier talent, or it had to be a perfect match, both families benefiting and helping each other rise. 

Aurelia didn’t have much going for her. She wasn’t accomplished at all, and in every way, she fell short of what the Lautner family wanted.

So there was absolutely no way those two would ever end up together. 

Wade would never settle for someone like her. 

Still, Kyler couldn’t help but call Wade, hoping to get the lowdown. 

But Wade didn’t answer. He just declined the call.

Inside the car, Aurelia thanked Wade. 

Mia was blowing up Aurelia’s phone with texts. It wouldn’t stop buzzing. 

‘I don’t even have to look. I already know exactly what Mia’s freaking out about, Aurelia thought. 

Mia gave her a sharp pinch on the thigh, basically demanding she check her phone. 

[My, this guy is perfect! Seriously, you hit the jackpot!] 

[Tall, handsome, polite, and drives a fancy car. He is definitely loaded!] 

[What does he do for work?] 

Aurelia could only sigh and reply on her phone. 

[Works for the government.] 

Mia replied almost instantly. 

[Government guys are the best! They’re stable, dependable, and totally grown–up. Seriously, that’s totally your type!] 

Aurelia was silent. 

Not wanting to deal with Mia, Aurelia asked Wade politely, “Mr. Lautner, how did you know I was in Northvale?” 

Wade explained, “I heard it from Mr. Morris when we were discussing work.” 

But that wasn’t actually the case. 

Wade’d seen it on Instagram; one of his friends had posted about it. 

It was one of Kyler’s colleagues from the department. 

While out at the bar, he saw Aurelia and Mia, thought they were gorgeous, and bragged on Instagram about having the best view in the place tonight. 

That was why Wade called Aurelia right away.

Chapter 180 

Aurelia didn’t think twice about it. Wade and Tyson were always chatting about InquireMind anyway. 

She’d just called Tyson earlier that day to let him know she was flying from Northvale to Ashmont first thing tomorrow, and would head straight to Ascend Group to meet up with him after landing. 

So Wade’s explanation made perfect sense. 

“When are you heading back to Ashmont?” Wade asked, following up. 

“First thing tomorrow,” Aurelia replied. 

“So soon?” Wade looked genuinely surprised. “I was hoping to treat you to dinner and give you the local treatment, but I guess we’ll have to save it for next time.” 

“Wait, you’re actually from Northvale?” Aurelia asked, a little taken aback. She’d never really thought about it before. 

“Yeah, born and raised,” Wade replied. 

Mia chimed in, “Northvale’s awesome! Being a Northvale local is a big deal.” 

Aurelia was speechless. 

‘I wish I could just mute her for good, Aurelia thought. 

Mia couldn’t care less about Aurelia. She just cocked her head and started interrogating Wade, as if she were the police checking his records. 

Wade was so polite. He didn’t even mind Mia’s intrusive questions. 

He answered everything sincerely, never missing a beat. 

Eventually, Aurelia couldn’t take it anymore and covered Mia’s mouth with her hand. Peace was finally restored in the car. 

Just then, their car pulled up to the hotel where Aurelia was staying. 

Before Aurelia could get out, Wade asked, “What time’s your flight tomorrow?” 

Mia picked up on Wade’s intention right away and blurted out Aurelia’s flight time. 

She was so quick that Aurelia didn’t even have a chance to stop her. 

Wade smiled and said goodbye to both of them. 

Once Wade’s car disappeared, Aurelia pinched Mia’s waist and demanded, “Seriously, Mia, what are you up to?” 

Mia planted her hands on her hips. “Hey, you said you’re starting a new life. Of course, you gotta meet some new guys! Wade’s not bad at all. You should give him a shot.” 

Chapter 180 

Aurelia rolled her eyes to the heavens, then delivered her classic line. 

“Men only ever slow down my hustle. Got it?” 

The next morning. Wade was waiting for Aurelia in the hotel lobby, ready to drive her to the airport. 

Aurelia was so annoyed that she wanted to storm back to her room, drag Mia out of bed, and give her a good smack. 

But since Wade had already come all the way over, turning him down would be kind of disrespectful. 

So she just got in the car. 

Thankfully, Wade kept things comfortable, never saying anything that made Aurelia uneasy. 

From their small talk, Aurelia learned that Wade was home on leave to spend time with his family and would be heading back to work next week. 

Wade walked Aurelia all the way to the boarding gate. Just as she went inside and he was about to leave, Kyler ran right into him. 

“What are you doing here?” Kyler asked. 

Wade replied, “Just seeing a friend off.” 

“You live way across town. What kind of friend is so important that you’d get up at four in the morning to drive your friend to the airport yourself?” Kyler asked, genuinely curious. 

Wade didn’t bother explaining. He just shrugged and said, “A friend.” 

Kyler grinned, “It’s a girl, right? The one you’ve got a thing for?” 

“Go on, get to your gate,” Wade clapped him on the shoulder and walked off. 

Kyler laughed. “Keep it under wraps! Let’s see how long you can keep this secret!” 

He was in a hurry to catch his flight, so he didn’t bother to ask more. 

After boarding, Kyler couldn’t believe it. Aurelia was sitting right next to him. 

Aurelia noticed him, too. 

But she barely glanced his way before looking away, not giving him a second thought. 

Kyler frowned and, when the flight attendant came by, asked, “Is it possible to change seats?” 

The last thing he wanted was to be stuck next to Aurelia. 

The flight attendant apologized, “Sorry, Mr. Ackerley, but you’re in first class, and there aren’t any available seats to switch to.”

Kyler just sat down with a scowl, stuck in his original seat. 

He instinctively leaned away from Aurelia, dearly showing he wanted to keep his dance 

What he didn’t realize was that Aurelia didn’t even spare him a single glance the whole tim 

Fortunately, the flight was short enough that Kyler managed to put up with it. 

As soon as the plane touched down, Kyler was up and out of his seat in a flashi

Aurelia took her time gathering her things, and when she finally stepped off the plane, Miranda was already waiting for her at the gate. 

Once they met up, they headed straight for Ascend Group. 

This was the first business meeting between Ascend Group and InquireMind since they started working together. 

Tessa was running the meeting, and to Aurelia’s surprise, Kyler was actually there in the conference room. 

The vice president of Ascend Group explained that Ascend Group was about to team up with Evergreen Group on a new project, and Kyler was there to check things out. 

That made sense. 

Tessa thought she was totally prepared, but less than five minutes into the meeting, Aurelia raised her first question. 

She pointed out that Tessa’s data was off. 

Tessa’s expression turned a little frosty. 

Kyler glanced at Aurelia with a cold, sarcastic edge in his voice. “Wow, Ms. Corin, you call yourself an expert? Already picking apart the data after barely hearing any of it? 

“Maybe the real issue here isn’t the data. It’s you.”
