Chapter 182Â
It had been ages since Aurelia and Gideon had seen each other, so Aurelia even skipped an official meeting to dine with Gideon.Â
She made a point of taking him to a spot known for its soup.Â
The owner recognized Aurelia right away. It had been a while since she last visited, so he greeted her with a big smile and told her about some new calming dishes they’d just added, asking if she wanted to give them aÂ
try.Â
Aurelia shook her head. “No thanks,” she said.Â
Back when she was trying to help Cassian with his insomnia, Aurelia had been all over Ashmont, hunting down the best soup and food she could find.Â
After all those visits, she and the owner had gotten pretty friendly.Â
When the owner heard she no longer needed them, he was actually happy for her.Â
“No wonder you haven’t been around lately. So your boyfriend’s insomnia is finally cured? That’s great news,” he said.Â
Aurelia’s eyes grew distant. “We broke up,” she said.Â
He just stood there, speechless.Â
He was clearly embarrassed, not sure what to do.Â
Aurelia didn’t seem fazed at all. Once she sat down, she asked the owner, “So, what kind of new dishes were you talking about? Got anything good for digestion or the stomach?”Â
“Absolutely!” the owner replied eagerly. “Our boss went all out and hired a top nutrition expert to create a whole range of dishes. The ones for the stomach, energy, and blood circulation are our main focus. They’ve been super popular.”Â
“Do they taste good?” Aurelia asked, remembering Gideon never liked that kind of flavor.Â
“Yeah, sure. That’s the beauty of our dishes,” the owner said with a grin.Â
With the owner talking it up so much, Aurelia decided to humor him and asked for a recommendation for something good for the stomach.Â
The owner didn’t even hesitate. He pointed straight to the menu and picked out the chicken soup.Â
“This one’s our boss’s girlfriend’s absolute favorite,” he explained.Â
Aurelia nodded. “This one’s pretty good. My secretary makes it for me all the time. You should give it a try.”Â
Since Aurelia had picked everything out, Gideon just went along with it, without any complaint.Â

While they waited for their food, Aurelia asked how things were going on Gideon’s end.Â

“It wasn’t easy. We had to sacrifice a lot of Gold Gauntlet’s interests to close the deal, Gideon said, keeping it brief.Â
Aurelia didn’t press him, just said politely, “As long as it’s sorted out, we can figure out how to make up for theÂ
losses later.”Â
Gideon’s eyes lingered on Aurelia, something unspoken in his gaze. “Hey, we’ve still got you. Inquire Mind was the only project that actually turned a profit for Gold Gauntlet this quarter.”Â
“Let’s keep pushing through. I’ll work hard to bring in more successful projects,” Aurelia said.Â
Gideon’s heart warmed at her words. “Yeah.”Â
Right as the food was served, Gideon’s phone buzzed. Jasper was calling, asking when he’d get there.Â
Gideon said, “I’m not coming. Just pay attention to what the bosses say and fill me in when you get back.”Â
Aurelia ladled out some soup for Gideon. “You should drink this while it’s still hot.”Â
Jasper was totally caught off guard. He practically shouted, “Wait, hold up! You’re actually with a woman, huh? Seriously? Who is she? Do I know her?”Â
Gideon wasn’t going to bother with that nonsense. He just hung up.Â
Jasper was dying of curiosity and was just about to call back when Cassian and Tessa walked in.Â
As soon as Tessa arrived, she asked Jasper, “Didn’t you say Gideon was back? Why isn’t he here for the meeting?”Â
“He’s not coming,” Jasper replied.Â
Tessa paused. “Why not?”Â
This meeting was actually pretty important.Â
Jasper scratched his head. “Pretty sure he’s out on a date. When I called, I heard a woman’s voice.”Â
Tessa couldn’t help but think of Aurelia, and her smile faded.Â
Still, she suggested, “Let’s get everyone together tonight and invite Gideon, too.”Â
Jasper was all for it. “Sounds good. Tell him to bring that woman along. Seriously, I need to see what kind of goddess could get him so turned around that he’d ditch a meeting.”Â
Her eyes clouded over, but Tessa didn’t say a word.Â
As soon as the meeting started, Jasper muttered under his breath to Cassian, “Where’s Aurelia? Why didn’t she show up?”Â

Cassian gave him a frosty glare and snapped, “Focus on the meeting”Â
Jasper was just left speechless.Â
He thought to himself, ‘Man, this meeting is so boring.Â
Gossip is way more fun!Â
Why is nobody willing to gossip with me?‘ Jasper grumbled inwardly.Â
Tessa noticed Aurelia’s seat was empty, and her expression fell.Â
That fleeting suspicion she’d just had? It hit her that she’d been right all along.Â
Disappointment flashed in her eyes.Â
Gideon came to the get–together that night, after all, but he showed up solo.Â

Jasper couldn’t help but ask, “Hey, how come you didn’t bring that woman you were with earlier today?”Â
Gideon chuckled, clearly in a good mood. “She’s not really into these kinds of parties.”Â
“Oh, look at you, already jumping to defend her,” Jasper teased, a little jealous. “Seriously, who is this girl that’s got you acting so protective?”Â
“What’s the hurry? You’ll know when the time’s right,” Gideon replied with a grin.Â
“And when’s that? When you get married or have a kid?” Jasper shot back.Â
“Could be either,” Gideon said, not missing a beat.Â
Jasper nearly jumped out of his seat. “So you’re actually thinking about tying the knot?”Â
“Yeah,” Gideon replied, sounding totally sure of himself.Â
Tessa was sitting right across from them, catching every word. Her expression instantly froze.Â
She’d been with Gideon for over six years, and he’d never once shown any interest in getting married.Â
Even when she tried to drop hints, he never gave her any real answer.Â
And out of nowhere, he was talking about tying the knot.Â
Tessa gripped her glass so tightly that her knuckles turned white, her face looking stormy.Â
Too bad that no one was paying attention to her, though.Â
Gideon glanced over at Cassian, maybe to see his reaction.Â
Cassian’s face stayed perfectly calm, his eyes unreadable, like he couldn’t care less about what they were talking about.Â

When he turned to pour himself another drink, he suddenly realized Cassian had quietly downed more than half a bottle all by himself.Â
“Cassian, what’s going on with you?” Jasper asked, shaking the nearly empty bottle at him. “This isn’t some business dinner. Why are you drinking like that?”Â
Cassian answered in his usual unhurried way, “Just training my alcohol tolerance.”Â
“So you’re drinking to cover for Tessa at the party?” Jasper teased.Â
Cassian nodded. “Yeah, the engagement party’s coming up soon.”Â
Jasper finally caught on. “Cassian, you really are thoughtful.”Â
Tessa, who’d been feeling down, instantly brightened when she heard Cassian say that.Â
She said softly, “Take it easy on the drinks, Cassian.”Â
“Alright,” Cassian replied.Â
Jasper was so used to being the third wheel around these couples that he wasn’t surprised.Â
He slouched deeper into the couch, bored out of his mind. “Seriously, what’s Liam been up to lately? I’ve tried inviting him out for drinks, but he keeps blowing me off. Oh, and Gideon, you’ve been overseas for a while, so I bet you haven’t heard about this yet, right?”Â
Gideon raised an eyebrow. “Heard about what?”Â
“Liam’s mom has her eye on Aurelia. She wants Aurelia to be her future daughter–in–law,” Jasper said.Â
Gideon frowned. “When did this happen?”Â
“Just recently. You have no idea how much Liam’s mom adores Aurelia. She spent the whole press conference chatting with her. My dad said Liam’s dad wanted to match Aurelia with Liam as soon as he met her, but Aurelia shot him down. Liam’s been keeping this so quiet. Not a single hint got out,” Jasper explained.Â
Gideon’s frown deepened.Â

By the time Aurelia wrapped up her call with Murel, it was already well past ten.Â
They’d gotten so into their chat that neither of them even realized how late it was.Â
If Murel’s wife, Judy Abbott, hadn’t popped in to break it up, they probably would’ve kept going all night.Â
Murel had never met anyone who was so completely on the same wavelength as Aurelia.Â
He’d always thought Aurelia was smart, capable, and stunning.Â

But then, he realized those qualities didn’t even come close to capturing her true allure.Â

He was the kind of guy life had nearly ground down, ready to throw in the towel and check out, but Aurelia’s passion had sparked something new in him.Â
He told Aurelia he’d be heading back to Ashmont in the next couple of days to discuss things with her inÂ
person.Â
With that weight off her shoulders, Aurelia set her phone down, ready to take a shower and finally get someÂ
rest.Â
But her phone rang again.Â
She glanced at the screen and saw a familiar number.Â
‘Why is Cassian calling me this late?‘ Aurelia wondered.Â
