The rain poured down all night.

The rain’s noise let Aurelia drift off into a deep, peaceful sleep. 

By the time Aurelia got up in the morning, Abigail already had breakfast ready.

“Good thing you stayed over last night,” Abigail said, shaking her head. “I saw all those videos and photos in the neighborhood group chat this morning. It was terrifying. A whole stretch of road just collapsed, and some cars fell right in. I hope no one got hurt.” 

She let out a sigh. “I just hope Cassian didn’t run into any trouble last night.” 

Aurelia didn’t have an answer for that, so she just kept quiet. 

After breakfast, Aurelia said goodbye to Abigail and headed out. 

Her GPS rerouted her, warning that the road ahead had caved in and was closed off. 

Aurelia arrived at the office later than usual, and as soon as she walked in, the receptionist told her she had a visitor. 

It was Gideon. 

Aurelia was pretty surprised to see him. 

Gideon said, “I’ve been caught up with Gold Gauntlet business lately, so I haven’t really gotten a proper look at your place. Ms. Corin, if you’re free, could you show me around?” 

“Of course, but you’ll have to give me half an hour. I’ve got a morning meeting to run,” Aurelia replied. 

“No problem,” Gideon said. He had plenty of time today. 

While Aurelia was in her meeting, Jasper called Gideon again, asking if he was free. 

Jasper said Alpite Group was holding a press conference and wanted Gideon to make an appearance for Tessa. 

Gideon shot him down right away. “I’m busy.” 

“What are you so busy with? Why are you always unavailable?” Jasper pressed. 

“I’m inspecting a partner company,” Gideon replied. 

Jasper sounded even more baffled. “Do you really have to check out the partner company yourself? Can’t you just come over already?” 

“That’s what you’re there for, right? I’m busy here. Hanging up,” Gideon said, not bothering to explain. 

Jasper didn’t even get a chance to respond before Gideon ended the call.

Jasper thought about calling again, but figured Gideon wouldn’t pick up anyway. So he just called Gideon’s secretary instead, asking which partner company Gideon was visiting. 

The secretary said it was Regal Investment. 

Jasper’s face darkened. 

Turns out he’s at Regal Investment. No wonder he was being so secretive, Jasper thought. 

Still, he couldn’t wrap his head around why Gideon would rather go and inspect Regal Investment than show up for Tessa. 

‘Does Aurelia really matter more to him than Tessa?‘ Jasper thought, still confused. 

While he was still wondering about it, he heard Tessa calling Cassian, asking where he was. 

Cassian said his car had broken down on the way and he’d probably be late. 

Tessa sounded worried. “Why would your car suddenly break down like that?” 

“Maybe it got flooded in the rain last night,” Cassian replied. 

Last night’s downpour was no joke. When Tessa checked the news this morning, she saw that many apartment parking lots had gotten completely flooded. 

“Just fix your car and get over here as soon as you can, okay? I’m really on edge when you’re not around,” Tessa said, her voice full of worry. 

“Alright,” Cassian replied. 

Watching all this, it finally clicked for Jasper. 

‘Gideon’s skipping Tessa’s press conference on purpose,‘ Jasper realized. 

After all, they used to be in love. Even though they broke up peacefully and always acted cool when they saw each other, it probably still bothered him a bit. 

Seeing Tessa and Cassian so close probably made Gideon feel uncomfortable. 

‘Guys are just like that,‘ Jasper mused. 

Guys had strange possessiveness over their exes, for no real reason. 

But thinking about it, after Cassian and Aurelia split, he never acted that way. He was always cold, like they were total strangers. No one would ever know they’d spent seven years together. 

Maybe Cassian never loved Aurelia at all. 

She was never in his heart, so breaking up didn’t even faze him. 

But what about Aurelia?

Why did she seem so unfazed, like nothing could shake her? 

Jasper mulled it over for ages before he finally figured it out. 

‘Aurelia’s just putting on an act, he realized. 

Everyone knew how she used to be. 

Cassian made it to the press conference on the dot.

Jasper asked, “Your place is on high ground, right? There’s no way your garage would get flooded. It’s the most upscale neighborhood in Ashmont.” 

Cassian replied coolly, “I stayed at my family home last night.” 

“Ah, that explains why you didn’t come with Tessa,” Jasper said. 

As soon as Cassian took his seat, the press conference officially kicked off. 

Tessa, along with Ewan, the founder of Dreamscape, took turns on stage, giving a comprehensive rundown of the game’s features, along with the impressive stats and rave reviews from the beta test. 

During the Q&A session, the reporters started with questions about the game. 

But then, someone suddenly switched gears and started asking about Tessa’s relationship. 

“Ms. Rowe, I just noticed Mr. Locke from Honoria Capital is here, too. You two seem really close. There are rumors you’re tying the knot soon. Is that true?” a reporter asked. 

Tessa looked absolutely blissful, her eyes sparkling with happiness as she replied, “Let me clear this up. It’s not a rumor. It’s the real deal.” 

The room erupted with envious sighs. 

The reporter kept going, “So, Ms. Rowe, after you and Mr. Locke get married, are you planning to quit your job and be a stay–at–home wife?” 

Tessa just smiled and playfully tossed the question to Cassian. “You’ll have to ask Mr. Locke. Does he want me working by his side, or just at home as his wife?” 

The cameras zoomed in on Cassian, and Jasper couldn’t help but wonder how Cassian would respond. 

Cassian gave Tessa a gentle look before answering. 

His eyes were filled with love. 

“She’s incredible. How could I ever bear to cage her in marriage? Even after we’re married, she’ll still have her own sky to soar in. She’ll always be free,” Cassian said softly, his eyes full of affection. 

The crowd erupted in awe, swept away by the depth of Cassian’s love and the tenderness in his words.

After the interview, Tessa went to the makeup room to freshen up when her phone buzzed. It va Alina calling. 

“So, how was it? Did the reporter I sent over do a good job?” Alina asked. 

“Yeah, it was perfect. My relationship with Cassian is finally out in the open,” Tessa said, sounding relieved. 

Tessa had always hoped Cassian would hold a press conference to announce their upcoming engagement and make it official, letting everyone know she was his fiancée. 

But Cassian just never got around to it. 

She’d tried to bring it up in a roundabout way, but Cassian always dodged the topic. 

He said the reason was that Benjamin hadn’t given his approval yet. 

If he went public with it, he’d end up provoking Benjamin and make their already rocky father–son relationship even worse. 

Tessa got it, but deep down, she couldn’t help but feel a little wronged. 

Honestly, every woman wanted to be officially acknowledged. 

Alina said she’d take care of it. 

So she got a reporter to ask those loaded questions at the press conference, just like she planned. 

“Anyone can see Cassian’s head over heels for you,” Alina said, totally satisfied with her future son–in–law. 

“Yeah, he does,” Tessa replied, sounding quietly happy. 

“Once you’re engaged, see if you can get pregnant early. A baby will lock things in and push the wedding date up,” Alina suggested. 

“Alright, I hear you,” Tessa said, her tone soft but a little resigned.

Just as Aurelia stepped out of her meeting, her phone buzzed with a message from Arturo. 

He told her, [I just watched Dreamscape’s press conference. The gameplay and features are exactly how I designed them, and they didn’t even touch the trailer.] 

[Guess that’s why the beta reviews were so good.] 

[I quit before it was done, so I have no clue how the rest of the game or story turned out,] Arturo admitted. 

Aurelia could tell he was feeling pretty conflicted. After all, that game was his baby. 

Aurelia replied, [Since you’ve decided to move on, don’t look back.]
