Before Vivian could say anything, a woman’s scream suddenly echoed from the bedroom. “Honey, Owen, get over here, quick.”Â
The two men dashed over, and Vivian hurried after them, too.Â
“What’s going on?” Vivian stopped mid–sentence.Â
The four of them stood there in a daze at the bedroom doorway, their eyes gleaming with greed as they looked inside.Â
“We’ve hit the jackpot.” From inside the room came a scream so sharp it sounded like someone was getting slaughtered.Â
Owen White rushed forward, ripped open a pack of bread, and devoured it like he hadn’t eaten in forever.Â
The woman watched him with a pained, motherly look, gently patting his back. “Slow down, Owen. There’s plenty more.”Â
They were already treating all the supplies here as if they owned the place.Â
Emily was hopping from foot to foot, anxious and frustrated. She glanced at Chloe, who was sitting on the couch, cool as a cucumber, channel surfing on the TV.Â
Chloe kept pressing buttons on the remote, but not a single channel worked.Â
Emily knew she was the one who’d brought this mess on herself, so it was up to her to fix it.Â
Taking a deep breath, she grabbed a machete and stormed in. “Hands off. Put down my supplies.”Â
Before the man could even react, Emily was already swinging the machete, eyes squeezed shut, hacking at whoever was in front of her.Â
Vivian shouted, scared out of her wits, “Are you out of your mind?”Â
Emily looked downright vicious. “Yeah, I’m crazy. I let you in because I was being nice, and you try to steal my stuff? I’m not backing down.”Â
Emily was a powered human, strong as hell, and with that machete in her grip, she slashed the middle–aged man; blood gushed out instantly.Â
Just as she was about to strike again, something heavy slammed down on her head. Warm blood streamed down, blurring her vision.Â
Emily crumpled to the ground, and behind her stood Vivian, face fierce/ holding a blood–soaked rock high above her head.Â
The middle–aged woman gave Chloe a big thumbs–up. “Vivian, that was awesome.”Â
Owen laughed out loud and rushed over to the pile of snacks. “Sweet, all this stuff is ours now. Hey Vivian, get me some water, will ya? I’m dying here.”Â
He ripped open a bag of chips, barking orders at Vivian without even glancing at his seriously injured father, completely heartless.Â
The wildest thing was that everyone there acted like this was perfectly normal.Â
Vivian scrambled to get the water when she suddenly realized there was still someone else sitting on the couch. Instantly, her nerves were on high alert.Â
But then she remembered the other girl was just another helpless chick, so she relaxed and threatened her. “You’d better getÂ

Chloe suddenly turned her head and fixed Vivian with a cold, unblinking stare. It was so chilling that Vivian felt like she was staring straight into the eyes of a demon from hell; her skin crawled.Â
Vivian instinctively shrank back, and just then, Owen’s impatient voice rang out from the bedroom.Â
“Vivian, what are you doing? I want some water.” He hadn’t even finished the sentence when he spotted Chloe sitting calmly on the couch, and a huge grin spread across his face.Â
“Vivian, is this your classmate? She’s gorgeous,” he said.Â
Before Vivian could say anything, Owen darted over and plopped down right next to Chloe, shamelessly checking out her figure and even whistling at her.Â
“Hey, you must be my sister’s classmate. I’m the man of the house. What’s your name?” As he spoke, he reached out, trying to touch her face.Â
But just as his hand got within an inch of her cheek, Chloe moved in a flash.Â
She grabbed his wrist and twisted it back with a sickening crack. A scream echoed through the living room, loud enough to make your ears ring.Â
Owen’s right hand was broken, twisted at a horrible angle.Â
His hand dangled uselessly in the air, blood dripping down, gruesome and chilling.Â
Owen’s scream brought his parents rushing out of the bedroom. When they saw Chloe sitting there, their eyes with suspicion.Â
“Who are you? How did you get into our house?” the dad snapped.Â

But when they saw their precious son’s right hand mangled, they immediately turned on Vivian. “Vivian, how could you let this happen to your brother?”Â
Vivian backed away, frantically shaking her head. “It wasn’t me. She’s the one who broke his hand.”Â
The middle–aged man rushed out, his gaze flickering with uncertainty when he saw Chloe. His tone unconsciously softened. “Was it you?”Â
Chloe didn’t answer. She simply sidestepped him and headed for the bedroom.Â
As she passed the middle–aged woman, the woman grabbed her shirt, locking eyes with her, eyes full of venom. “Damn woman, how did you get into my house? Honey, kill her.”Â
Chloe suddenly broke into a smile, her beauty lighting up the room, so stunning that it made the father and son’s eyes go deep and complicated.Â
She crossed her arms, as she’d just heard the funniest thing ever. “What did you just say? Your house?”Â
A flash of jealousy shot through the middle–aged woman’s eyes. ‘Ugh, she’s way too pretty. Such a bitch,‘ she thought.Â
“Of course, it’s my house,” the woman shot back.Â
Chloe glanced down at the hand clutching her shirt, then kicked her so hard the woman went flying across the room, flipping the couch behind her.Â
She said coldly, “Let’s get one thing straight. This is my house. I took Emily in, and Emily took you in. Got it?”Â

After hearing their conversation, Chloe could tell for sure that this family had no idea who actually owned this place.Â
They thought Emily could never afford a house like this, but they believed they themselves could.Â
“Mom, are you okay? Chloe, is she freaking insane? That’s murder. You could go to jail for this,” Vivian snapped.Â
Chloe raised an eyebrow. “Ah, so you do know me.”Â
Vivian paused, then snorted. “Please, you’re the campus queen bee, famous for being the school heartthrob’s loyal puppy, the spoiled princess. Who at school doesn’t know you?”Â
“So, do you think I can afford this house?” Chloe asked.Â
Vivian fell silent. Chloe’s family was loaded; buying this house was nothing. Chloe could probably buy the whole building if she wanted.Â
“Chloe, with your princess attitude, how could you ever be friends with someone as broke and pathetic as Emily?” VivianÂ
spat.Â
Chloe was always acting all high and mighty, looking down on everyone.Â
Emily was so down in the dumps, so insecure that she didn’t even dare lift her head.Â
Their worlds were like two parallel lines. They never meant to meet, ever.Â
“Because she’s kind and honest. Why would I want to be friends with a thief who barges in and tries to steal my stuff like you?” Chloe shot back.Â
Vivian’s face fell. “I’m not a robber.”Â
“Hey, if that’s true, then go ahead and give back all the water and food you’ve helped yourself to from my stash,” Chloe sneered.Â
Chloe stormed into the bedroom. The moment she saw Emily lying in a pool of blood, her expression darkened, murderous rage flashing in her eyes.Â
She hurried over, picked Emily up, and laid her on the bed. Chloe did her best to stop the bleeding and checked Emily’s head for wounds.Â
Emily had a mild concussion, blood everywhere, but she’d live.Â
Just as Chloe finished checking Emily, she felt a threat right at her back. Instantly, she dodged to the side in a flash.Â
