Chapter 63Â
Chloe gave her a helpless look and said, “Let’s keep a low profile. Try not to say my name.”Â

She turned her head and saw that the family hadn’t noticed her, so she lay back down on her backpack, ready to sleep.Â
All the yelling and swearing made it impossible for Chloe to get any sleep.Â
The couple had given their pasta to the powered humans earlier and didn’t say anything at the time.Â
But after waiting forever and still not getting any meat, they started kicking up a fuss right away.Â
“What are you standing there for? Hurry up and bring us some meat. Everyone else has already eaten, and we’re the only ones left without food,” the couple shouted.Â
The powered human with the gun let out a cold laugh. He said, “Didn’t we hand you pasta already? If you chose not to eat them, that’s on you.”Â
Another powered human nearby burst out laughing. He said, “Honestly, we should thank you for being so generous. If you hadn’t handed over those two packs of pasta, we’d still be starving right now.”Â
The couple finally caught on, gaping at them in shock. They asked, “What do you mean?”Â
The powered human with the gun gave them a look of utter contempt. He said, “One pack of pasta per person per day, that’s the rule. You skipped it, so you’re out of luck for today. Try again tomorrow.”Â
The woman shrieked, furious, “What the hell are you talking about? Do you even know who we are? We’ve got people in the military.”Â
“Then go find the military, if you’re so tough. Get out right now,” the powered human snapped.Â
The powered human had no patience for her nonsense and lunged to drag her out.Â
The woman backed away in a hurry, and for the first time, fear showed on her face.Â
“No, no. Aren’t you supposed to be the rescue team? How can you just abandon us? I’m not leaving,” she cried.Â
Emily let out a cold laugh. Clearly, this couple still hadn’t realized just how brutal the apocalypse really was.Â
The woman crouched on the ground, refusing to move. She said, “I don’t want the meat anymore. Just give me back my pasta, that’s all I want.”Â
She thought she was already backing down, but the powered human just snorted and replied, “No food.”Â
The woman pointed at Frank and said, “Just give me the pasta he’s holding, I don’t care about the rest.”Â
She went to grab it, and suddenly everyone on the bus turned to look, even Sam’s family.Â
Frank sneered and said, “You handed it over, so it’s mine now. Don’t even think about getting it back. My sister’s still starving.Â
He kicked the woman down and chucked the pasta over to Chloe.Â
“Chloe, stash those pasta in your bag. I dare anyone to try and take them,” he said.Â
He swept a cold, threatening glare at everyone on the bus.Â
Chloe looked at the pack of pasta in her hand, not knowing what to say.Â

Chapter 63Â
‘Wow, thanks to your whole family, Chloe thought sarcastically.Â
Sure enough, Kiera’s ear–piercing scream cut through the air.Â
“Chloe, it’s you, isn’t it? Oh, my sweet granddaughter, I missed you like crazy,” Kiera said.Â

She threw herself at Chloe, well, actually, she sprawled right across Chloe’s legs, burying her face in the bulging backpack and clutching it tightly to her chest.Â
She was bawling her eyes out, snot and tears everywhere, completely heartbroken.Â
But in reality, she was sneakily trying to pull the heavy backpack away, but no matter how hard she tugged, it didn’t budge an inch from Chloe’s side.Â
Sam, his eyes brimming with tears, walked over to Frank and grabbed his hand tightly.Â
“You’re my son–in–law, aren’t you? Man, you really are a looker. Atta boy,” Sam said, beaming.Â
Frank was speechless.Â
Chloe was also at a loss for words.Â
Emily got speechless, too.Â
To Sam, the fact that Frank was able to hand food over to Chloe meant the two of them had to be pretty close.Â
Plus, the powered human with the gun actually gave Frank an extra pack of pasta. It had to mean Frank was a big deal here, maybe even the strongest one in the whole group.Â
