Chapter 88

Frank didn’t say a word. He hung his head low, his eyes bloodshot.

Mindy froze for a second.

‘Wow, he really dotes on his wife,‘ she thought.

She handed him a tissue. “Don’t cry. Your wife will be fine.”

Frank wiped his tears, still trying to act tough. “Who’s crying?”

Mindy shrugged. “Okay, I’m the one crying. Happy now?”

Having Mindy there, talking to him, Frank felt much calmer inside.

He glanced up and spotted a few shady figures lurking around the corner on the second floor. His gaze grew cold and sharp, and he clenched his machete tighter.

He was practically oozing killing intent, like a loaded cannonball, ready to go off any second.

The watchers felt that chilling aura and scrambled away in terror.

Frank raised his machete and flung it. Just as it was about to nail one of the powered humans right in the back, Mindy stopped him.

The mutant willow branches shot out, snatching the machete and yanking it back.

Seeing Frank’s confused look, Mindy explained, “Now’s not the time to mess with them. Your wife is still in labor, Chloe’s totally spent herself, and Emily’s busy taking care of your daughter.”

So right now, it was just the two of them who could actually fight.

Frank finally put his machete away, nodding gratefully. “Thanks, Mindy. I was blinded by rage just now. If you hadn’t stepped in, I might’ve done something stupid.”

Right now, Drake had no clue who was giving birth downstairs. Since he was still guessing at how strong Frank and Mindy really were, he wasn’t about to rush in blindly.

Normally, in a situation like this, people would first want to figure out how strong the other side is before making any plans.

As for them, they were using this opportunity to catch their breath and recover.

Inside the RV, Joan slowly woke up, looking around in confusion. If it weren’t for the excruciating pain tearing through her body, she would’ve thought she’d died and gone to heaven.

‘It’s so warm here, she thought.

“Joan, push! The baby’s almost here!” Liana’s voice rang out.

She heard a familiar voice and instinctively called out, “Liana?”

“Good girl, don’t talk. Just push. You can do it,” Liana encouraged.

Chloe stood off to the side, feeling helpless. All she could do was pull some chocolate from her spiritual space and feed it to Joan.

“Eat this. It’ll help you regain your strength,” Chloe said softly.

Joan didn’t know Chloe, but seeing the kindness in her eyes, she nodded. “Thank you. My daughter?”

“Your daughter’s fine. She’s resting nearby, and Frank is right outside, keeping watch over you,” Chloe reassured her.

Joan’s eyes widened in excitement, but before she could say anything, another wave of pain hit her. “Ah.”

Feeling like she couldn’t really help, Chloe just moved off to the side and started restoring her abilities.

Good thing she’d grabbed bags full of zombie cores while taking out zombies earlier. She’d already burned through a lot, but there were still plenty left.

Emily had burned through a whole backpack of cores, and her strength was back at its peak. After this fight, she’d even leveled up a bit, and she was starting to show signs of breaking into the second level.

Even though Emily was the weakest in the group right now, if she went out on her own, she’d still be a total badass.

Most powered humans and zombies were still stuck at the beginner level these days. Even someone at the first level was basically a future top dog.

But Chloe’s crew was a bunch of freaks, totally off the charts. If anyone heard about them, they’d think it was a joke.

Even Drake, who ran a hundred–man crew upstairs, had only just made it to the first level.

Molly woke up, her eyes scanning the room with caution. When she saw Joan in such pain, she instinctively tried to cry out, but her mouth was gently covered by Emily.

Emily whispered softly in her ear, “Don’t be scared, sweetie. We’re friends of your dad. Your mom is having a baby right now, so just be brave and hang in there, okay?”

Molly nodded, and Emily picked up the still–warm soup from the table, popping a straw into it.

“You must be hungry, huh? Have some soup first, then we’ll get you a nice hot bath,” Emily said gently.

Molly looked at Emily with suspicion. “Miss, can we really take a bath here?”

Her little face was full of surprise, her mouth slightly open as she stared at Emily in confusion.

Emily tapped the tip of her nose. “Of course! Come on, I will take you there.”

When she heard Molly call her in that soft, sweet voice, Family’s heart melted instantly.

‘Hmph, let’s see if Frank still says I look old all the time now,‘ Emily thought to herself.

Chloe was still busy absorbing cores, so Emily didn’t bother her. Instead, she dug through the cabinets and fished out a few smaller–sized women’s clothes, plus some fresh underwear and cozy layers.

She grinned, holding up a pink down jacket for Molly to see, “Pretty, right?”

Molly’s eyes lit up. “Thank you, Miss. You’re really nice.”

Molly was usually super cautious and never smiled at strangers for no reason.

But there was something about Emily. Molly just felt so warm and approachable, making her want to get close to her without even knowing why.

And that gorgeous woman nearby, just one look and one could tell she was a total badass.

After sending Molly off to the bathroom, Emily started cleaning up the bed Molly had just used. The white sheets were stained with blood. It looked pretty grim.

Chapter 88

This was the tiniest bed in the RV, just right for Molly.

Since little girls love things neat and tidy, Emily swapped out the sheets for a cute pink set.

After getting everything ready, Emily got the water heating and started cooking in the kitchen.

Everyone hadn’t had a bite all day, so she made sure to cook up a feast and plenty of extra food for everyone.

Soon, the smell of freshly cooked pasta, beef stew, grilled lamb chop, and a bunch of stir–fries filled the RV.

The delicious aroma drifted out of the RV, making Chloe open her eyes.

Liana, who was delivering the baby, got so distracted by the smell that her hands slipped for a second, almost causing a mishap. Outside, Mindy and Frank exchanged a look, and their stomachs growled in perfect sync.

Meanwhile, the guys who’d been peeping from the second floor were scared out of their wits by Frank’s machete. They stumbled back to Drake, looking like they’d just survived a near–death experience.

“Drake, those guys are bad news! If we hadn’t booked it, our heads would’ve been split open for sure,” one of them blurted out, still shaking.

Drake felt a wave of shock hit him. These were his strongest powered humans, and they came back looking super scared.

Drake’s tone turned serious as he asked, “What did you find out?”

Jerry, the guy with the big ears, jumped in first. “There’s an RV downstairs, and those two from earlier are guarding the door. No idea what’s going on inside, though.”
