Frank’s eyes flashed with shock and fury, his breath coming in short, ragged bursts. Overwhelmed by grief and rage, his whole body trembled uncontrollably.Â
In an instant, a wave of killing intent erupted from him, so intense that the atmosphere turned icy cold.Â
Feeling that murderous aura, Chloe and the others exchanged glances; they could already tell what was going on.Â
She glanced at the girl lying on the mattress, and before anyone realized, she was already at Molly’s side.Â
She reached out and checked Molly’s pulse.Â
Thankfully, it was just surface wounds. What really knocked her out was a mix of emotional overload, pushing her powers too far, and going days without food.Â
With a wave of her hand, a steaming cup of soup appeared in her palm.Â
She asked Emily to watch over Molly and to feed her the soup when she woke up.Â
Since Molly hadn’t eaten in ages, her stomach was really sensitive. She could only start with some soup to settle her stomach, and she could eat more once she’s feeling better.Â
The two survivors were left dumbfounded. Even if they were clueless, they could tell these people were not someone to mess with.Â
They turned and bolted.Â
Suddenly, a mutant willow branch snaked up the stairs, aiming straight for the backs of their heads.Â
“Drake, help-” Before they could even finish the shout, the sharp tip of the branch nailed them right in their weak spot.Â
The moment the mutant willow branch stabbed into their vital points, tiny black tubes grew out where it touched their blood.Â
Inside those black tubes, little bulges formed, gurgling as they frantically sucked up the fresh blood.Â
In just a few breaths, the two powered humans were completely drained, their bodies shriveling up and turning into husks.Â
‘A blood–sucking willow branch?‘ Chloe thought, her eyes narrowing.Â
“Mindy, this willow branch is seriously sinister. Never let it outpower you, and don’t use it unless you absolutely have to,” Chloe warned.Â
Mindy turned her head solemnly. “Got it.”Â
Frank’s voice trembled, choked with sobs. “C–Chloe, please, come quickly. Look at my wife.”Â
He stared at Joan, who was covered in blood, frozen with fear. His mind was wiped clean; all that remained was the terror gripping him.Â
Chloe hurried over. When she saw Joan’s condition up close, even someone as used to blood and brutality as her couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath.Â
Chloe reached out and checked Joan’s pulse, her gaze turning icier, the murderous intent in her eyes intensifying.Â
“How is she?” Frank, a mountain of a man who’d stared death and carnage in the face time and time again since the apocalypse without ever breaking, was now in tears.Â

He spoke so softly, as if even a raised voice might scare Joan’s soul away.Â
“Quick, get her onto the mattress,” Chloe snapped, not even pausing to answer Frank. Every second counted now.Â
Frank tried to lift Joan, but his legs gave out, and he nearly dropped her.Â
Furious with himself, he slapped his face hard.Â
“I–I can’t stand up,” he stammered, his voice shaking.Â
Seeing this, Mindy rushed over. She might look small and curvy, but she showed just how strong she really was.Â
She reached out, lifted Joan from Frank’s arms, and gently laid her down on the mattress.Â
Chloe stared at Joan, who was drenched in blood, with fresh blood pouring out beneath her and instantly freezing into ice. Chloe’s face was grim.Â
Her breathing was getting fainter and fainter.Â
“She’s covered in wounds, and she’s bleeding out badly,” Chloe said, her voice tight with worry.Â
Hearing the words made Frank feel like his heart just stopped.Â
Even in a top hospital, a woman bleeding out after giving birth could easily die.Â
Especially with this insane weather right now, things felt even more hopeless.Â
Frank collapsed to his knees beside Chloe, his voice breaking. “Chloe, I’m begging you. Please save my wife.”Â
That one desperate plea seemed to suck the life right out of him.Â
Chloe stayed calm under pressure and started barking out orders.Â
“Frank, Mindy, check the second floor for any doctors who know about childbirth. Whatever it takes, drag them down here if you have to!” she commanded.Â
She took a deep breath and added, “I can use my healing ability to stop the bleeding, but I’m almost out of juice. Emily, siphon energy from the cores and feed it to me.”Â
“Got it,” they replied in unison, and everyone imely split up to do their part.Â
Right now, Chloe couldn’t care less if her space secret got blown.Â
With a flick of her wrist, she brought out the luxury RV.Â
She swung open the door, and together, they carefully carried Joan inside.Â
Molly was gently settled onto the little bed in the RV, too.Â
In this brutal cold, if one passed out, one’s body heat would drop in no time. Once one froze through, that was it. One was gone for good.Â
Up on the second floor, Drake was getting handsy with a woman, his hand slipping under her collar and giving her aÂ
squeeze.Â
She let out a flirty giggle.Â
She forced herself to ignore the disgust churning in her stomach and the icy claws gripping her chest, putting on a sweet, coquettish act.Â

“Drake, I’m so hungry,” she whined.Â
Drake flashed a wicked grin. “You’re hungry, sweetheart? If you make me happy, I’ll give you a sandwich. Deal?”Â
The woman turned on the charm even more, not caring who was watching as her hand slid down Drake’s body.Â
Everyone else was numb to it all by now. It was just another day for them.Â
Some folks even felt a twinge of envy, thinking if only Drake would notice them, they’d score a sandwich, too.Â
Just then, the cries for help from two powered humans rang out from the stairwell between the first and second floors.Â
Drake frowned.Â
His mood was instantly killed.Â
“Pathetic. Can’t even deal with a woman and a kid,” Drake spat, full of disdain.Â
Seeing Drake get pissed, the woman knew better than to push her luck and let go. One couldn’t tell if she was more disappointed or relieved.Â
She was bummed she didn’t get her sandwich, but at least that creep didn’t take things further.Â
The other survivors, jealous, bitter, and spiteful, all shot her mocking looks.Â
Since they couldn’t get any food themselves, they sure as hell didn’t want anyone else to either.Â
That was just how people were, ugly to the core.Â
Drake stood up, about to call for his guys to go check it out.Â
Just then, two strangers, a man and a woman, came striding up around the corner on the second floor.Â
They were dressed in rags, their clothes smeared with thick, black zombie blood.Â
They walked with a steady, confident swagger; you could tell right away these two were trouble.Â
The woman was gripping a green willow branch about 3 feet long, and it was giving off a seriously dangerous vibe.Â
The man’s presence was even more intense, gripping a blood–soaked machete as he’d just crawled out of hell.Â
Just one deadly glare from him made Drake feel like a wild beast had locked onto its prey.Â
“This guy is a total badass!‘ Drake thought, his heart pounding.Â
Drake straightened his collar and swaggered over, ready to throw out some fake–friendly welcome.Â
But the two strangers didn’t even give him the time of day. They just brushed past like he wasn’t even there.Â
Drake’s hand hung awkwardly in the air, and rage instantly bubbled up inside him.Â
‘Seriously? They’re just gonna ignore me? I run this place!‘ Drake fumed to himself.Â
In Drake’s mind, this second–floor supermarket was his own personal kingdom, and all the survivors were nothing but hisÂ
minions.Â
Getting humiliated in front of his own minions? Drake couldn’t let that slide; he had to get his pride back, no matter what.Â
He was just about to figure out how to deal with those two when Frank’s desperate voice suddenly broke through hisÂ

murderous thoughts.Â
“Is there an OB–GYN here?” Frank yelled, panic clear in his voice.Â
Mindy shouted right after, “Any doctors at all. Please, we need help!”Â
