Chapter 17Â
Evangelina’s POVÂ
During the tour, Tali opened up a little, asking short questions here and there. We are nowÂ
heading to the dining hall for lunch. You can hear them as soon as we walk into the packÂ
house, but the voices get louder the closer we get to the dining hall. I can see the girlsÂ
fidgeting the closer we get to the door.Â
“It will be fine.” I reassure them and they nod their heads but the fidgeting continues. I smileÂ
toward them and open one of the big doors walking through with the girls behind me.Â
Everyone stops talking when they see me walk through and they look curiously at the girlsÂ
trailing behind me.Â
I make my way towards the table LInc, Marie, Henry and Mason are sitting at. Henry has aÂ
calm appearance, but I can see the relief he has at the sight of the girls. Once we reach theÂ
table the girls go to sit down, but I stop them.Â
I motion for Henry to stand up and he does so slowly, as if he doesn’t want to. I clear myÂ
throat to ensure that everyone’s attention is on me. This isn’t all my pack, but there are at leastÂ
200 of them here.Â
“Everyone, we have guests.” I say with a short pause. “This is Henry, Nali and Tali. They will be training here during summer break and I expect you all to be welcoming and respectful toÂ
them.” I say roaming my gaze throughout the room. I see most people are looking curiously atÂ
the three, some have looks of indifference, and others have a big smile on their face. We don’t allow many people here to train, so I understand the curious looks.Â
“You may continue with what you were doing.” I say and one of our teen’s yells “Welcome to our pack. I am Dane.” Everyone laughs or chuckles at him. The girls smile and I nod towardÂ
them to sit.Â
“What type of sandwiches do you two want?” I ask and they look at me curiously. “I’ll just guess.” I say and head toward the buffet we have for each meal.Â
I grab a plate and pile it with fruits and vegetables, another plate and grab four different sandwiches, and throw three bags of chips on top. I Also grab three lemonades and tuck them between my arm and waist, holding the two plates with either hand. I make my may toward the table with Henry and the girls looking at me in bewilderment and confusion.Â
I smile at them and set one plate down, then the lemonades and the other plate. I sit downÂ

and look towards the girls.Â
“Grab whatever sandwich you want.” I motioned to the food. Their jaws open slightly and theyÂ
still don’t move.Â
“Guests who haven’t gotten an explanation on how our meals work, typically get served by whoever is hosting them in the pack. The next meal is on you to get.” I answer their unaskedÂ
question. They nodded their heads and grabbed a sandwich.Â
“How come I didn’t get served?” Henry asked, breaking the silence at the table and causingÂ
Mason to bark out a laugh. I smile at him, his dark blue eyes shine and his dark red beardÂ
touches his stomach. He is all muscle and built like a tank. He is in his forties, making himÂ
about 10 years older than us.Â
“You’re a big boy, you don’t need daddy coming to fix your food for you. Do you?” He asks,Â
causing Henry’s eyes to widen in surprise but a smile splays on his face.Â
Linc and Marie start belly laughing at Mason’s statement.Â
“You. Did. Not. Just. Call. Yourself. Daddy.” Marie states between laughs. Link has tearsÂ
streaming down his face and the girls and I are joining in the laughter now.Â
“Damn skippy I did. Although some call me big daddy.” Mason says, chuckling a little, and I start wheezing at the statement.Â
“I doubt it. The only thing big on you are your arms.” Tali says, her eyes widening at theÂ
realization she just insulted this hulk of a man. Everyone’s laughter dies quickly and they stareÂ
at Tali in surprise, especially Henry who didn’t know Tali is slowly opening up.Â
“HA. You got me there little one.” Mason says looking toward Tali and raising his hand for a high five, which she reluctantly accepts. Once she lowers her hand, a smile breaks out on her face for the first time since she has been here. I look at Henry and see him beaming at theÂ
exchange.Â
“So what do you guys think of the pack so far?” Marie asks, which surprises me and Linc. SheÂ
has done a complete 180 since this morning.Â
“It’s different.” Nali says. “But I really like it.” She quickly states. Linc chuckles.Â
“Yea, it is different. But it is home.” He says, causing Nali to blush and look down. I smile atÂ
the exchange and look at Henry with an eyebrow raised.Â
“Like Nali said, it is different but a good, different. The atmosphere here is very welcoming andÂ
homely.” He says and I nod my head.Â

“Has Mason given you a tour yet?” I ask looking toward Mason and he scoffs.Â
“I ain’t no tour guide.” Mason answered and I smiled.Â

“Yes but as you know, people need to feel comfortable with their surroundings to train. If theyÂ
feel like an outcast they will be focused on the worry of being different.” I say and he rolls hisÂ
eyes.Â
“Well as you know, Alpha, in order to get a grasp on where to start training you need to seeÂ
where they are first when they are uncomfortable. Then you give them the reassurance that itÂ
is a safe place to train.” Mason counters and I hear the girls gasp beside me at what they deem as disrespect to the Alpha.Â
“Touche, Mason. You got me there.” I say with a smile.Â
“You aren’t mad that he spoke to you like that?” Nali asks and I shake my head as Mason andÂ
Linc chuckle.Â
“We are very informal here and people have the right to speak to Evan openly. We all recognize that she is Alpha, but she isn’t the typical Alpha.” Linc says.Â
“No. Alpha Evan is a lot more relaxed and laid back. As long as you aren’t being an as* to her or others she doesn’t care. She can tell when people are mocking her or being complete d*cks. If that happens she quickly shut it down, may it be by whooping their as* in training or just talking with whoever it is.” Marie explains and the girls nod their heads in understanding.Â
“That is very different from the packs that I have been to.” Henry says and I nod my head.Â
“Contrary to popular belief, being an Alpha is more than demanding respect and ruling with an iron fist. You need to allow your people the freedom to do and say as they please. You need toÂ
be open and approachable to all of your pack members, or they will feel a disconnect and beÂ
less likely to listen to you.” I say and Henry nods his head in understanding.Â
“I like that. It is very different in our pack.” Nali says and Tali nods her head in agreement. I have heard that their brother is more demanding and does not take kindly to any person opposing his view.Â
“It is.” Henry agrees and I snap my head toward him. He has a small, disappointed smile on his face and looks down. He feels guilty that he agrees.Â
“What pack are you from?” Mason asks and it grows quiet.Â
“Does it matter Mason? As you know the goddess sends people to us to help, they are some of those people.” I answered and he quickly realized that their pack is not a topic ofÂ

discussion.Â
“I suppose it doesn’t matter. Never really does when visitors come to train.” He says withÂ
indifference and a shrug of his shoulder.Â
“You ready for that tour little hen?” He asks, causing the girls to laugh.Â
“Little Hen? Really?” Henry asks.Â
“Yea. You can call me Big Rooster.” Mason says with a wag of his eyebrows and everybodyÂ
starts to laugh now.Â
“Yes!” Henry exclaims while fist pumping the air. “I’ve already got a nickname!” He says,Â
causing us all to laugh even more.Â
“Let’s go Big Rooster.” Henry says and Mason’s eyes widen in slight surprise and a blush paints his face.Â
“Okay maybe no nicknames.” He says rubbing the back of his neck.Â
“Awe, why not? Big Rooster fits you.” Marie snorts and Mason glares at her.Â
Bonus >Â
“No.” Mason deadpans and looks at Henry. “If you call me that again, I’ll waterboard you.” HeÂ
says and Henry laughs.Â
“Whatever you say.. Big Rooster.” He says and water from a glass splashes on Henry. TheÂ
shock on his face is priceless. They make their way towards the exit of the dinning hallÂ
leaving the rest of us chuckling at the scowl on Mason’s face.Â
“Is Mason into Henry?” Nali asks.Â
“No. Contrary to how he speaks Mason is not gay. That is just him.” Linc answers.Â
“Oh okay.” Nali says, blushing.Â
“Alright, fun is over. Let’s get back to training.” I say and the girls nod, following me back to myÂ
office.Â
