Now that Drake and his crew were dead, the remaining powered humans were just a bunch of good–for- nothings. They had zero combat experience and were hardly any better than ordinary people.
If that weren’t the case, Peyton wouldn’t have ended up with the leader’s spot.
The survivors on the second floor were in total chaos. Peyton was shaking with fear, clinging tightly to Nina as they huddled in the corner.
Chloe methodically coordinated the defense, blocking the breached line without letting
through.
“Chloe, what do we do now? There are too many zombies. We can’t hold out much longer,” Emily said, her face pale.
As she spoke, countless zombies, driven by their bloodlust, charged toward them with wild abandon.
The supermarket’s rolling gate was violently torn open, leaving a huge gaping hole.
As more zombies poured in, the hole in the gate grew wider and wider, and it was clear that the few people left couldn’t hold it back anymore.
Chloe shouted to the others, “Get out of the way!”
Everyone quickly let their powers fade and moved aside.
At the same time, Chloe conjured up a grenade about the size of her palm and threw it outside with all her might.
Zombies outside were blown to pieces by the deafening blast. In a flash, she sealed the torn gate with a thick layer of ice.
She also sealed every window on the first floor with thick ice.
She was already at the late stage of Level 3, just one step away from a breakthrough.
Her ice could rival bulletproof glass in toughness.
It was a shame she couldn’t freeze a whole area at once, but sealing up doors and windows was a piece of cake for her.
The horde of zombies was sealed outside by ice, so for now, everyone was safe. But inside, Chloe was getting more and more anxious.
She had no idea how Linda and her kids were doing. She hadn’t heard a thing from them since the comms
went out.
‘No, I have to get out of here, fast, Chloe told herself.

Emily frowned, her face full of doubt. “Chloe, something’s not right.”

Seeing everyone looking at her, she continued, “Even if there’s a woman giving birth, with this weather and everything sealed up with ice, there’s no way the smell of blood should’ve brought in so many zombies.
“Plus, I used my spirit–powered sensing. Those zombies outside are actually attacking us in an organized way.”
“What?” Frank and the others gasped.
If this was a coordinated attack, it meant the leader had to be at least a Tier 3 zombie.
Everyone looked at Emily, silently urging her to keep going.
She took a deep breath and continued, “Most of the zombies charging us just now were Tier 1, but there are a bunch of Tier 2s holding back, just watching us. After Chloe tossed that grenade, they actually pulled back right away.”
Everyone was deep in thought. Logically speaking, even a Tier 3 zombie with a hint of intelligence shouldn’t be capable of this kind of strategy.
Unfortunately, Emily’s abilities weren’t strong enough to sense very far ahead, so everyone looked to Chloe for guidance.
She paused for a moment and said, “Wait.”
She was obviously waiting for the Phantom Zombie to finish merging in her spiritual space.
Then Chloe added another layer of ice to every part of the supermarket, just to be safe. She was starting to think these zombies hadn’t just shown up for the blood. They’d come prepared, drawn by the scent of living humans.
With over a hundred survivors packed onto the second floor, the presence of so many living people was basically irresistible to zombies. Of course they’d be targeted.
She even suspected that, in the eyes of those high–level zombies, this crowd of survivors was nothing more than their own personal food stash.
Molly shuffled over, her voice barely above a whisper. “Chloe, we’ve already been hit by several waves of zombies, and they’re all coming from the south. Whenever I reach out with my powers toward that direction, I get this creepy, pounding feeling in my chest.”
Everyone, Frank included, turned to stare at her. Molly looked nervous, afraid Chloe wouldn’t take her seriously. She was about to say more when Frank interrupted.
“Molly, this is grown–up stuff. Kids shouldn’t get involved,” he said.
He obviously brushed her off, but didn’t want Chloe to get annoyed, so he jumped in first.
Molly felt discouraged, struggling to find the words to make everyone believe her.
Chloe suddenly spoke up, “If we have to leave, there are three ways out. Which one should we take?”

Molly answered without missing a beat, “North.”
“Alright, start prepping. We head north the day after tomorrow,” Chloe said.

Frank was stunned. “Chloe, you’re not really going with this, are you? Molly’s just a kid, you know.”
He remembered yesterday, he’d suggested heading north, but Chloe didn’t even give him the time of day.
Chloe looked at Molly. “I trust your judgment.”
She didn’t even hesitate and just went with it.
Chloe thought, ‘Everyone saw how powerful Molly was in my previous life.
‘Her old team never made it onto the powered human rankings, and they didn’t always succeed in their missions, but they were the only team with zero casualties.
‘No matter the mission, they always made it out in one piece.
‘Even though Molly’s powers haven’t fully awakened yet, her precognitive senses are already incredibly strong.
“From now on, Molly gets to help call the shots on all major decisions,” Chloe announced.
That was Chloe putting her full trust in the kid. Frank nearly dropped the zombie core in his hand out of sheer shock.
“What?” Frank blurted out, still in disbelief. “Did I hear that right?”
After the shock wore off, Emily was the first to reach out with a welcoming smile.
“Welcome to the team,” she said.
Molly shook her hand excitedly, her face turning a little shy. “Thank you.”
Emily grinned at Frank. “I heard Molly’s got sensory powers too. You better watch out, or she might just surpass you.”
Frank slung his arm around Molly’s shoulders, his eyes shining with pride.
“She’s my own flesh and blood. I’d be thrilled if she left me in the dust,” he said.
While everyone was enjoying themselves, a woman came sauntering down from the second floor. She flashed Frank a smile and kept playing with her hair, striking a pose she clearly thought was irresistible.
But it had been over a month since the apocalypse started, and no matter how beautiful she used to be, now she was just a mess.
Her hair was greasy and dirty, her clothes reeked, and honestly, she looked no better than a beggar on the
street.

When the woman came down, everyone gave Frank these knowing looks, since the woman’s gaze was so blatant, it was like she couldn’t take her eyes off him.
Emily couldn’t help but tease, “Well, well, looks like someone’s got romance knocking at their door.”
Frank, clearly embarrassed, hurried into the RV.
“Captain Hunter, wait up!” the woman called out, her voice all sweet and flirty. She hurried after him, trying to catch up.
But the door slammed shut right in her face. Her eyes welled up with tears as she fidge not knowing what to do.
“What do you want with my dad?” Molly stepped up, her eyes full of suspicion.
She was totally on guard. No way was she letting anyone take her dad from her.
h her fingers,
The woman’s face instantly broke into a smile when she spotted Molly. She crouched down, her voice soft and
sweet.
“Oh, Molly! So Captain Hunter is your dad? Was it really your dad who drove off those zombies just now? I just wanted to thank him on behalf of everyone,” she said.
