An unreadable smile flashed across the woman’s face. Instead of replying, she called out to the RV. 

“Captain Hunter, to thank you for saving us, all the survivors on the second floor have agreed to make you our leader and put you in charge of the supplies,” she announced. 

Emily couldn’t help but laugh. “Hey, gorgeous, are you looking for our captain?” 

The woman gave a reserved smile and nodded quickly. “Yes, do you know when he will come o something to discuss with him on behalf of the second–floor survivors.” 

The woman stood with her back straight, acting like she was above everyone else.

To her, Frank was the only one in the first–floor group who had any real strength. The other women were just hanging onto him. 

She was here representing over a hundred survivors from the second floor, which made her feel pretty important, like she was on a whole different level. 

So she didn’t bother with politeness or respect, and even talked down to them. 

Emily noticed the arrogant look in the woman’s eyes, snorted, and didn’t even bother replying. 

Just then, Frank came out with a map in hand. 

The woman’s face instantly lit up with a fawning smile as she hurried over, clearly wanting to say something. 

But Frank didn’t even spare her a glance, heading straight for Chloe instead. 

“Captain, here’s a map of Riverside. Let’s talk about where we’re heading next,” he said. 

The woman stopped dead in her tracks, gaping at Chloe as she took the map and started looking it over. 

‘Wait, what?‘ she thought. “That insanely beautiful girl is the captain? No way, that’s impossible!‘ 

The woman looked like she’d just been hit with a ton of bricks, but she quickly recovered and awkwardly squeezed her way over. 

“Hey, Captain. I’m the rep for the second–floor survivors. Need to talk to you about something,” she said. 

Chloe raised an eyebrow. “Weren’t you looking for Frank?” 

The woman gave an awkward smile. “Sorry, I didn’t realize you were the captain.” 

She gave Chloe another once–over, thinking, ‘She’s just a bit prettier than the others. Nothing else really stands out about her. 

‘Maybe Frank just dotes on her and lets her play captain.

And with that, she felt way less bothered by it. 

“Look. Mr. Hunter, you’re crazy strong, and we really want you on our team,” the woman said. 

Frank shot her down without hesitation. “No. We’re leaving in two days.”

The woman freaked out. “What? You’re leaving in two days? Why? There are so many zombies out there. Isn’t it safer to just stay here and wait for rescue?” 

By now, the second–floor corner was packed with people. When they heard the woman’s scream, they all stared at Frank in disbelief. 

“No way, you can’t leave!” someone shouted. 

“Yeah, if you go, who’s gonna protect us?” another person chimed in. 

“You guys killed Drake and his crew, so now you have to keep us safe,” someone else yelled. 

“The world’s going to hell. Young people these days are so selfish, they don’t care if we live or die,” an old woman wailed, crying her eyes out and making a huge fuss. 

More and more survivors started coming downstairs, surrounding Chloe and her group. 

Everyone was chattering nonstop, voices overlapping everywhere. 

At first, when they found out Drake was dead, they were all too freaked out to even set foot on the first floor. 

But after a whole day and night, they realized Chloe’s group wasn’t out to kill them. They finally worked up the nerve and started trying to guilt–trip them. 

Everyone knew just how tough they were. They’d managed to hold the zombies at bay. 

No way were they going to let Chloe’s crew just walk away. 

Some folks even pressed their faces right up against the RV windows, squinting through the dark tint. When they caught sight of how comfy and inviting it looked inside, their eyes lit up like Christmas. 

“Let us in! It’s so warm in there, and some people are just wearing long johns and undershirts. Please, let us in. We’re begging you!” someone pleaded. 

“Oh my god, there’s food on the table! I swear I can smell them from here. Why do they get to feast while we’re left to starve?” another person griped. 

More and more survivors started complaining loudly about how unfair fate was, their faces twisted with jealousy. 

Some folks didn’t hold back, banging on the RV doors and yanking at the handles, going crazy trying to get inside. 

Frank’s head was throbbing from all the shouting. He planted himself in front of the RV. With one brutal swing of his blade, he chopped straight through the neck of the guy who was leading the mob.

The head hit the ground and rolled right up to the survivors‘ feet, making everyone freak out and throw the whole place into chaos. 

“He’s killing that guy!” someone screamed. 

Some people bolted for their lives, while others just kept slamming themselves against the RV doors crazily. 

Frank was a total beast. With every move, lives were lost. 

Finally, he got the whole place under control, his expression grim as he spoke.

With all that chaos outside, everyone in the RV was on edge. 

Joan’s face was pale as she stared out the window, clutching her baby tightly in her arms. 

Liana, her hands trembling, gently pulled a blanket over Joan. “Don’t be scared. Frank’s got this.” 

She couldn’t take her eyes off the madness outside, and it wasn’t until over twenty people had been killed that the mob finally broke up. 

Only then did she let out a long, shaky sigh of relief. 

The baby’s face was no bigger than a palm, and bright red. Joan barely got any nutrition while she was pregnant, and the poor kid even took a hit while he was still inside her. 

He was so weak, his cries were as soft as a kitten’s, and he barely tipped the scale at just over four pounds. 

After Liana mixed up some formula and fed him, the little guy finally drifted off to sleep, still looking sleepy and dazed. 

Chloe tossed aside her blood–stained ice sword, her tone cold as frost. “If anyone dares to cause trouble again, kill them on the spot.”

The guy looked like he might cry any second. 

“You hear me? If we wanna get in there, it’s all on us. We gotta move quick,” Peyton whispered. 

The guy nodded so hard his head almost snapped off. 

Night in the apocalypse was as dark as being blind. 

Just as Peyton was about to act, a chilly scoff echoed from behind him. 

“Peyton, what are you up to?” Frank’s voice sliced through the darkness. 

Peyton nearly jumped out of his skin, whipping around to see Frank standing right there, giving him a sinister stare.
