The survivors clutched their stolen supplies and swarmed downstairs like a stampede. 

The old and weak got trampled to death in the chaos.

Now, no one gave a damn about Chloe’s team’s base vehicle anymore. They stampeded outside in a frenzy. 

Forget twenty minutes? Everyone was gone in just two.

“Chloe, aren’t we going to follow them?” Molly asked, her eyes full of confusion. “I feel like if we stick with them, things will be easier for us.” 

Chloe smiled and gently patted her head. “But if we stick with them, we won’t be able to scavenge for supplies ourselves.” 

She glanced over at the black base van. 

“Your mom is still in postpartum recovery, and your little brother is weak. They need the stable temperature inside the car. Plus, we’re running low on gas,” Chloe said. 

She had plenty of fuel stored in her spiritual space, but she couldn’t just pull it out and refuel the car in front of everyone. 

If life got too comfortable, people just ended up getting greedy. 

They only learned to treasure what they’d got when they realized just how hard it was to get those supplies. 

Just as expected, you could see shame and guilt flicker in Molly’s eyes: 

Chloe grinned and gave Molly’s nose a playful tap. “Next up, we need to find some gas. We’re counting on you to lead the way.” 

Molly gave a determined nod. “I’ll find us the safest route, promise!” 

Frank jumped in at just the right moment. “No need for that. If things get rough, we can just tail the military. 

“I mean, with the army clearing the way up front, the road will be way safer. We just need to hang back and follow them.” 

Everyone nodded. 

That could work too.

The loudspeaker outside blared again, “All survivors, gather here now! The military is leaving in three minutes. If you’re not here, you’re on your own!” 

Then came the rapid–fire chatter of machine guns, mixed with the endless wails of zombies. 

Finally, everyone piled into the base van. Frank took the driver’s seat, Mindy jumped into the passenger seat, and everyone braced themselves for what was coming. 

Outside, the sound of car horns blared. 

“Follow them,” Chloe said. 

They waited for a minute. Then Chloe removed the ice from the doors, and Frank floors, shooting them out of the supermarket. 

Outside, the streets were a river of blood. Zombies littered the road, missing arms and legs, yet still clawing their way forward with grim determination. 

Some had their eyes burst open, black blood pouring out of the empty sockets. 

Others had their legs blown off, but they kept relentlessly dragging themselves forward with just their hands. 

As long as their brains weren’t destroyed, these things just wouldn’t die. 

Guns were pretty much useless against zombies now. 

The team kept to the route the military had cleared the whole way. 

Everywhere they passed had already been stripped clean by the soldiers. There was nothing left to scavenge. 

Emily grumbled, clearly annoyed, “They didn’t even leave us a scrap.” 

Just then, Frank slammed on the brakes. 

“What’s going on?” Chloe asked. 

He turned to Chloe. “Shit, the military’s taken over the gas station up ahead.” 

Chloe peeked out and spotted military vehicles completely surrounding the gas station up ahead. 

Mindy looked puzzled. “With no electricity, even if there’s gas in there, it’s all underground. Getting it out is gonna be a real pain.” 

Suddenly, Emily pointed at the gas station. “Whoa, check it out! There are like hundreds of people over there, all going at the ground with huge shovels.” 

Everyone instantly got it. They were actually trying to dig up the gas. 

“What should we do now?” Molly asked, sounding anxious. 

Chloe paused to think, and then said calmly, “Let’s just keep moving. We’ll hit up the next gas station.”

But the chaos and the endless tide of zombies overwhelmed even the strongest soldiers, true warriors who were wiped out one by one.

Anyway, the team went around the military and ended up ahead of them. 

They hadn’t driven much further when they came across a second gas station. But right was blocked by a barricade.

Frank slammed on the brakes, stopping the van just 3 feet before the spikes. 

Suddenly, six huge, tough–looking guys stepped out, each one clutching a fire axe. 

The moment they laid eyes on the van, their faces lit up with greedy excitement. 

They didn’t even bother with the people inside. Instead, they ran their hands over the van, treating it like their own personal treasure. 

One of them pressed his face right up against the window to get a look inside, and his jaw dropped at what he 

saw. 

“B–Boss, there are chicks in there. Damn, they’re hot,” one of them stammered, practically bouncing with excitement. 

John, the guy who’d been fondling the tire, heard that, slung his axe over his shoulder, and pressed his face right up against the window to get a look inside. · 

When he caught sight of Chloe’s gorgeous face, his jaw dropped, and his eyes went wild with lust, drool running down his chin. 

He let out a loud, greedy slurp. 

Several of his buddies were drooling too. 

“Boss, you get the hottest one. The rest of the girls are ours to mess with, right?” one of them said, grinning like a wolf. 

“Yeah, the ones back at home are old news. We’re sick of them,” another sneered, licking his lips. 

John let out a booming laugh. “Stick with me, and you’ll always have food and drink. When I’m done with that babe, I’ll toss her to you guys for some real fun.” 

The guys pumped their fists in the air, shouting, “Boss rules!” 

“John, you’re a total badass!”

Chloe sighed, feeling a bit resigned. “Everyone else, stay in the van. Emily, Frank, Mindy, J this.” 

As the van doors swung open, a wave of cozy warmth spilled out, and the big guy couldn grin.

“Thanks, John!” the guys shouted, grinning from ear to ear. 

The five or six thugs started jeering and hollering, totally ignoring Chloe’s crew as they stepped out. 

When they looked at Chloe, you could see pure jealousy in their eyes. 

‘Bet Boss’ll let us have some fun with her once he’s done,‘ the guys were all thinking, grinning wickedly. 

“Hey, sweetheart, what’s your name? You’re a real beauty. I’m John, the boss around here. Stick with me, and you’ll live the good life,” John said, grinning like a wolf. 

Chloe gave him a playful, sultry smile, her voice dripping with flirtation. 

“Oh, so you’re John? Is this your turf?” she cooed, batting her lashes. 

The way she called made John go all tingly. He almost couldn’t stand up straight. 

‘Damn, I’ve never had a babe this drop–dead gorgeous before. She’s making my knees go weak,‘ John thought, his mind reeling. 

“Hell yeah, this is my turf. Stick with me, and you’ll always eat well,” John said, grinning from ear to ear. 

Chloe covered her mouth, eyes wide in playful surprise. “Really? I haven’t tasted meat in forever! Thank you, John!” 

Her sweet, flirty voice had John and his crew practically getting nosebleeds.
