Nova refused to ride in the same car as Kael–there was no point in pretending they were still on good terms. 

When she arrived at the venue, she sat in her car for three minutes, steeling herself, before finally stepping out. 

She pulled out her phone to text Kael: [I’m almost at the entrance. Where are you?] 

But before she could hit send, a trending news alert popped up on her screen. 

[Sloane Reed Releases Video Statement! She’s the True Victim–Nova Hale’s Years of Bullying Make Her Unfit to Be Human.] 

Nova clicked on the video. In it, Sloane sat in front of the camera, her face pale and her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Her voice trembled as she spoke. “Hi everyone, I’m Sloane Reed. I know you’ve all seen the rumors online about me, Mr. Voss, and Mrs. Voss.” 

Tears spilled down her cheeks, making her look utterly helpless–like she’d been horribly wronged. “The truth is… I made up the story to get more attention. I manipulated Mrs. Voss, and I’m so sorry for letting you all down.” 

She paused, then bowed deeply to the camera–a 90–degree angle that deliberately revealed the bruises on her legs and knees. 

It was a perfect act: a poor, abused woman taking the blame to protect her bully. 

Nova’s heart sank. She gripped her phone so tight her knuckles turned white. Sloane was a master of playing the victim–fake, cloying, and utterly despicable. 

Suddenly, a commotion erupted nearby. “Look! There’s Nova! She actually had the nerve to show up!” 

“Unbelievable–what a shameless woman!” 

Nova frowned and looked up. A swarm of reporters was racing toward her, their cameras flashing. She tried to step back, but it was too late–they surrounded her, shoving microphones in her face. 

“Nova, Ms. Reed never did anything to you. Why have you been bullying her for years?” one reporter shouted. 

“Is it because Mr. Voss doesn’t love you anymore? Did you lash out at Ms. Reed because Mr. Voss chose her over you?” Another demanded, “Answer our questions!” 

Their words cut like knives, tearing her apart. 

The worst part? She was the innocent one–but now she was the one being crucified. 

Nova’s face turned pale. She swatted away the microphones, her voice sharp with frustration. “This is a public space! Have you no decency? Security will be here any minute!” 

But the reporters didn’t care about security–not when they had a scandal this big. “Are you too cowardly to admit what you did?” one jeered. 

“You’re so rude to us–imagine how you treated Ms. Reed!” 

Nova’s voice was drowned out by their shouts. She hugged herself, her eyes burning with tears. 

Then, through the chaos, she saw them: Kael and Sloane, walking side by side. They looked like the perfect couple–handsome and beautiful, radiant together. 

And there she was, stuck in the middle like a rat in the street, hated and humiliated. 

Nova bit down hard on her lip, humiliation burning through her. In that moment, it was as if someone had dumped a bucket of cold water over her–she felt freezing, right down to her bones.

“Nova, Mr. Voss and Ms. Reed are so in love–stop trying to break them up!” a reporter yelled, his tone dripping with disdain. “You’re acting like monster! Karma will catch up to you!” 

That sentence shattered her. She thought of Kael’s earlier promise: “I’ll clear everything up at the press conference. You won’t have to suffer 

anymore.” 

It was all a lie. 

He’d tricked her into coming here, just so she could be publicly shamed–so Sloane could walk away clean. 

He loved Sloane so much that he was willing to use her as a scapegoat. 

Nova’s eyes filled with tears. She’d been so stupid to believe him. 

She watched, heartbroken, as Sloane linked her arm through Kael’s–they looked like lovers, not just friends. 

And she? She looked like the bitter ex–wife trying to ruin their happiness. 

The irony was suffocating. 

Then, a reporter spotted Kael and Sloane and shouted, “Look! Mr. Voss and Ms. Reed are here they really are together!” 

The crowd swarmed toward them, leaving Nova behind. 

“Mr. Voss, are you and Sloane getting married soon?” 

“Mr. Voss, will you press charges against Nova for bullying Ms. Reed?” 

Kael’s jaw tightened. He opened his mouth to speak–then his eyes met Nova’s. The despair in her gaze made his heart skip a beat. 

Sloane stepped in, her voice soft and shy. “Everyone, please… don’t say that.” 

She didn’t confirm or deny the rumors, letting the reporters assume she was just too embarrassed to admit the truth. That only made them more convinced the two were in love, and that Nova was the cruel one who’d come between them. 

Nova watched them, her face drained of all color. 

Once, Kael had walked into events with her on his arm, proud to introduce her as his wife. 

Now, everything was different. 

Sloane glanced over at her, a triumphant smirk on her lips–I won. 

She was glowing, like she owned the room. 

Nova looked at Kael. His expression was cold, like he was annoyed the reporters were making Sloane uncomfortable. But when she’d been surrounded, when she’d been called names, he hadn’t even looked her way. 

What a joke. What a cruel, one–sided love. 

The grief she’d bottled up for months bubbled to the surface. A wild, desperate thought crossed her mind–maybe it was time to stop being quiet, 

Just then, Kael pushed through the reporters, his voice booming with anger. “You have no idea what’s really going on! Do you know how many years you could go to jail for spreading false rumors? After this press conference, every single one of you will regret this!” 

Nova froze. 

The reporters fell silent, exchanging nervous glances.

“Maybe Sloane is lying about being bullied?” 

Sloane’s face turned white. She grabbed Kael’s arm, but he pulled away and started walking toward Nova. Panic surged through her was she about to lose everything? 

Watching the man stride toward her with unwavering resolve, Nova ached with a bitter, sour sting–she was desperate to snap at him right there, in front of everyone. 

Kael hurried over, his eyes filled with care. 

How much had she suffered while he was away? Just thinking about how those reporters had humiliated her made him want to tear them apart. 

“Nova…” 

But just as he reached her, a loud, firm voice cut through the air. 

“Mr. Voss, you made the right choice to leave Nova for Ms. Reed. A woman who bullies her employees doesn’t deserve to be a CEO’s wife.” 

It was Derek Lawrence, the CEO of Luminarise Tech–the biggest investor in Voss Group. 

He walked over, sneering at Nova. “Keeping her around would only stain the company’s reputation and hold it back. Kael, you did the right thing by divorcing her.” 

The reporters erupted. 

“Luminarise Tech’s CEO just confirmed it–Mr. Voss and Nova are divorced!” 

“Mr. Voss and Ms. Reed holding hands in public–how could it be a lie?” 

“This press conference might announce their engagement!” 

Sloane smiled, a glint of victory in her eyes. The real show was just starting. 

This time, she was going to make sure Nova never recovered.
