Taylor POV

Dylan’s name slips from my lips before I can stop it.

The sound is barely more than a breath, but the silence that follows makes it echo. Heads turn, one after another, like a row of

dominoes tipping over.

The players nearest me blink the hardness as sweat dripping from their temples, jerseys clinging damp to their backs. Their confusion hardens into something sharper, more of like curiosity or suspicionas if they’ve just stumbled onto a secret I never

meant to spill.

The silence between us is growing so heavy and stretched like a rope about to snap.

The smell of liniment and damp turf fills my nose, thick and suffocating. My throat works once, dry and scratchy. Heat floods my cheeks, crawling up my neck until even my ears burn.

It’s DylanI hear my own voice falter before I force the words out. He’s my ex.”

The confession scrapes my tongue raw. It’s like I’ve bitten down top hard on the inside of my cheek, giving me a bitter, metallic

taste.

A murmur ripples through the grouplow whistles the scrape of cleats on the bus floor, the shift of weight as bodies lean subtly closer. Their eyes spark with something between pity and intrigue, like they’re waiting to see if I’ll unravel here in front of

them. I can’t meet their stares.

But then my phone keeps making the buzzing sound like hornets battering the walls of a hive. I look down at it holding it so tightly that the edges cut into my hand as I look at it the screen displays an endless stream of notifications, my thumb hovers, trembling, before I finally make the swipe. Against every instinct screaming don’t, I tap open T*****[.

The video loads. It doesn’t take long. Just a flicker of movement, shadows, breathless noises spilling through the tiny speakers.

Then the image sharpens, and my breath stutters. Not just a clip. Not some blurry scandal spun into rumor.

A sex tape. Ella’s hair spills across the pillow in a dark cascade, her face tipped back and her lips parted. And Dylan. He presses his hand against her spine with his mouth at her shoulder and the sound of her name tumbling from his lips.

My stomach turns. The timestamp glares in the corner: three months ago. My birthday.

The memory suddenly appears before me without warning. Dylan forces another drink toward me while the glass moves with liquid gold inside. His smile appeared fake and exaggerated, as if it belonged to someone else rather than me.

The heavy feeling of alcohol pulled my body toward the floor while the sounds around me merged into a single mess and my feet slipped on the wet surface as time lost its direction. His voice whispered I’ll take care of you in my ear before everything disappeared into the spinning world.

And while I was slippingwhile my body sagged and the night swallowed me wholehe was somewhere else. With her.

The realization cleaves through me like a sharp knife mercilessly sliding between my ribs and being twisting deep inside.

I press a hand to my stomach, as if it can physically hold me together, as if that can keep the truth from tearing me apart.

He had cheated on me for so long.

On my birthday. While I lay drunk and trusting.

The edges of my vision swim. Tears press hot at the corners of my yes, but I clench my jaw, forcing them back. I will not break

in front of them. I can’t.

A hush spreads among the players as the truth dawns. Their expressions shift from shock to awkward pity. One of them mutters, almost gently, Sorry, Taylor. That’s rough.Another echoes, Yeah, we didn’t know.”

Thanks guysTheir voices blur, like sound underwater. The video isn’t just onlineit’s viral. The view count skyrockets before

my eyes, digits climbing faster than I can blink. Comment threads warm like locusts, dissecting every second.

So Ella’s the cheater in the marriage.”

She deserves the backlash.”

My pulse pounds harder with each refresh. The narrative shifts in real time, the whole country turning its gaze on Ella. Beside me, Aiden stiffens.

He doesn’t even hesitatehe starts away on his phone, his voice clipped and sharp as he dials. Get the team on this. Now. Full sweep. I don’t care if it’s midnight. Contain the damn thing. His tone is all business, it’s as cold and precise as a scalpel.

After he hangs up, his eyes land on me. Did you not notice they were together?”

The question slices through me, jagged and raw. My throat tightens and for a moment I just stare, caught between fury and disbelief.

My voice feels like it wants to crack, but I push through. I was the one who was cheated on, Aiden. I was the fool, the drunk girl on her birthday while he―I choke back the word. And now you’re blaming me for not seeing it?”

His brow furrows. I’m not blaming you,he says, tone softening.

But before I say anything, his phone buzzes again.

He answers, and Ella’s voice floods the airshrieking, furious, so loud I can hear every word. You’re twofaced, Aiden! All that you say to me in person is totally different from what you do behind my back! You promised you would give me time, but now you just want to destroy me and let me crawl back to you.”

Dylan told me the video was lost because you made someone take his phone awayof course you’d do that, wouldn’t you? You never wanted the truth to come out. You’re always pulling strings, always making sure things turn against me so you can stand there looking innocent. Do you think I don’t see it? Do you think I’m that stupid? Her voice trembles with so much rage, a wild edge that makes my skin crawl.

I haven’t done anything,Aiden snaps, jaw tight. This has nothing to do with me.”

Don’t lie!Ella spits, her words rapid, frantic. You have power. You have connections. If it’s not you, who else could it be? I swear, I’ll make you pay for this.”

The line goes dead.

The silence after her voice feels like broken glass scattering across the floor.

I dedicate myself to work by treating some team members while clinging to the rhythm as my only source of stability. Ice packs, hydration checks, compression wraps.

I write notes on the clipboard with my pen, my words jagged and uneven. The combination of antiseptic and sweat helps me block out the persistent sound in my ears.

After working with the last player, I step aside, phone heavy in my hand.

Another notification. Then another. I open T*****r again, agains my better judgment.

A new post. Ella’s account. Her words are frantic, broken sentence that tumble one after another: Aiden is the real villain.

He’s been hiding for years. He abuses his power. He ruined my life
