Chapter 15 Is That Mommy?

Even though Sophia was secretly plotting to team up with Ethan against Emily, she still flashed a sweet smile when facing Nancy.
“Nancy, I’m fine. I just wanted to hear you play the piano.”
Nancy smiled warmly. “I actually have a performance tonight. How about I ask my friend to save two tickets for us?”
Sophia clapped her hands excitedly. “Yes, yes! Nancy’s the best!”
She threw herself into Nancy’s arms, nuzzling her cheek.
Ethan was still reeling. He was shocked by Emily’s reaction—even more so by how cold she’d been to Sophia.
In his memory, she was completely obsessed with Sophie. Even just running to the bathroom, she would cuddle with Sophie for ages before leaving.

burst into tears.
Back then, Ethan thought she was overreacting.
But now?
She hadn’t even spared Sophia a second glance, let alone said a word to her.
Before, she would’ve been clinging to Sophia and refusing to let go.
“Ethan?” Nancy straightened up, noticing his dazed look.
Ethan snapped back to reality, his expression neutral. “Let’s find our table.”
After ordering food, Ethan glanced across at Sophia. She was pressed close to Nancy, staring at her phone.
Even though she couldn’t read yet, she just wanted to be near Nancy. Plus, Nancy smelled so good, and her fingers were so pretty.
Nancy tapped the screen a couple of times, then looked at Sophia helplessly. “Sophie, the front row’s sold at. Oklý–6

Sophia’s face fell. “Aw, no…”

Ethan hadn’t realized Nancy was booking concert tickets, but he was confident he could fix it.
As long as Sophia and Nancy were happy, money was no object.
“I’ll handle it,” he offered.
Nancy explained about the concert, and Sophia chimed in, gushing about wanting to watch Nancy perform.
As the two chatted, Ethan smiled and called Lucas.
“Get me two front–row tickets for tonight’s concert at Los Angeles Grand Hall.”
Lucas didn’t ask questions. “Yes, Mr. Wilson.”
After hanging up, Nancy smiled at him. “Front–row tickets are pricey, and there are only two. Usually, when I perform, those seats stay empty unless you and Sophia are there.”
Nancy’s concerts always sold out, but she’d priced those16

have them whenever they wanted.

But tonight was different. Someone had actually bought them.
Nancy figured it was some rich guy trying to impress a girl.
But whoever it was, they were no match for Ethan.
Soon, Ethan’s phone rang. It was Lucas calling back.
“If it’s done, no need to call,” Ethan answered.
Lucas sounded embarrassed. “Sorry, Mr. Wilson, I couldn’t get the tickets. I contacted the buyer, but they refused to sell.”
Ethan frowned. “How could you mess up something so simple? Offer them more money. They’ll cave.”
Lucas was helpless. “I tried, but they won’t budge.”

Outside the hospital, Aaron hung up on the caller who’d 7

him.
They’d just walked back from the restaurant, chatting for ages about college and mutual friends.
It was the first time since her marriage that Emily had opened up so much to another guy.
Aaron turned to her, smiling. “Want to go to a concert tonight?”
Even though she was planning a divorce, Emily was still technically married. She almost refused, but Aaron spoke first. “Just keep me company. Help me unwind.”
After thinking it over, Emily agreed. “Sure.”
It’s just a concert, and we’re good friends.
Aaron smiled warmly. “I’ll pick you up tonight.”
Emily nodded. “Alright. I should get back to work.”
Aaron watched her leave, then stood under the tree shade, staring at her retreating figure for a long time.

He pulled up his chat with Kevin, his smile deepening.
Kevin: [What do you think? I’m gonna pursue her.]
Below that was a selfie–Kevin and Emily, taken under the guise of celebrating her return to LA.
[She’s divorced with a daughter, but that’s fine. I don’t mind being a stepdad. I’ll treat the kid like my own.]
Aaron stared at the photo in shock, then typed. [Divorced?]
Kevin: [Yeah, she told me herself. Why would she lie?]
Aaron’s hands trembled, his eyes growing misty.
He didn’t reply for ages, until Kevin video–called him, impatient.
“Hey, I’m serious. What do you think of her? I’m really into her.”
Aaron’s expression softened, though he tried to sound casual. “Kevin, she’s not right for you.”

After hearing that, Kevin stopped asking.
“Well… Then I wish you luck.”

That evening, Aaron was waiting outside the hospital when Emily got off work.
They grabbed dinner together, then walked to the venue.
After checking their tickets, Aaron led Emily to the front row. The best seats in the house.
As the hall filled up, the lights dimmed.
On stage, a spotlight shone on a woman walking gracefully toward the piano.

Her pure white gown highlighted her elegant figure. She wore a veil that hid most of her face, but it was clear she was stunning.
Emily stared at the stage.
As the woman drew closer, recognition hit. That Nahey1.7

Nancy was beautiful, with a great figure and real talent. Plenty of guys in LA were head over heels for her.
But beautiful roses always get picked. This one belonged exclusively to Ethan.
The performance began.
Nancy opened with “Memory of Rain,” then played two more pieces, each stirring different emotions.
Even though Emily didn’t like Nancy, she had to admit she was captivated by her talent. She couldn’t help but get pulled into the stories the music told.
When the three pieces ended, the hall erupted in applause and cheers for Nancy.
From the second row, Sophia stood up and screamed, “Nancy, you’re amazing! So dazzling!”
Her voice was drowned out by the noise.
EnЯlly didn’t hear her, and neither did Nancy.

When Sophia sat back down, she instinctively glanced toward the VIP seats she and Ethan usually occupied.
One look, and she froze.
Afraid she was imagining things, she leaned close to Ethan’s ear and pointed toward Emily and Aaron. “Daddy, look over there. Is that Mommy?”
