Chapter 28 Act Like a BratÂ
Lucky DrawÂ
When it came to sitting down for the meal, Emily couldn’t sit beside Sophia. Instead, Molly pulled her over to sit next to her. Sophia took the seat beside Molly, with Linda on the other side.Â
Ryan sat there with a stony face, keeping his silence. But Emily knew him well. The fact that he’d waited at the table for them to come back before starting to eat showed that he cared about her, even if he didn’t wear his feelingsÂ
on his sleeve.Â
As they were eating, Linda speared a shrimp with her used fork and offered it to Sophia. “Sophie, give this shrimp a try. See if you like it,” she said.Â
Sophia eyed the shrimp on her plate and scrunched up her face in disgust. “Grandma, using your own fork to serve food? That’s so unhygienic.”Â
Linda was caught off guard. She managed a weak, embarrassed smile, then took Sophia’s plate and replaced it with a clean one. “Then, I’ll just put the food here. You dig in yourself,” she said.Â

Just as she was about to lose her temper, Emily placed a hand on hers and murmured, “Molly, let’s just focus on our food.”Â
Looking into Emily’s teary eyes, Molly felt a pang of sadness but did as she was told.Â
With Sophia around, the meal was a real dragÂ
Ryan was seething inside about his niece’s behavior but held his tongue. Henry and Linda kept their heads down, quiet as mice. Only Chloe kept encouraging Sophia to eatÂ
more.Â
Sophia, used to the high life, just wouldn’t stop complaining.Â
“Grandma, don’t you guys ever eat caviar? It’s superÂ
yummy.Â
“These shrimp taste off–they might have parasites.Â
“At home, someone always peels the shrimp for me.Â
“These cherries are way too sweet. They taste like they’ve Béen pumped full of syrup.Â

started to cry, her head bowed.Â

Seeing her cry, Henry was about to say something when Molly shot up from her seat.Â
But before Molly could say a word, Emily also stood up. Fed up, she went behind Sophia, scooped her up from the chair, and said, “If you’re not hungry, I’m taking you upstairs to get ready for bed.”Â
Her voice was sharp and angry.Â
Sophia fought back, but Emily didn’t let go. She carried her upstairs in a hurry.Â
“Bad Mommy! I’m gonna tell Daddy you’re hitting me, being mean to me, and not letting me eat. I’ll make him dump you. Hmph!”Â
Emily rushed upstairs and shut the bedroom door.Â
Downstairs, they could faintly hear Emily scolding, “Sophia, is this how I taught you to talk to elders? Do you think you can act like a spoiled brat?”Â
the hall, Linda’s sobs grew louder.Â

her, and said, “Grandma, don’t cry. I love you. You’re the best grandma ever.”Â
As she spoke, she wiped away Linda’s tears, which only made Linda cry harder.Â
Meanwhile, Ryan slammed his fork down on the table and stood up, looking like he was about to storm upstairs and teach Sophia a lesson.Â
Chloe, sensing his rage, grabbed his arm and looked up at him. “Calm down. It’s Emily’s deal. Let her handle it. She knows what she’s doing,” she said.Â
Upstairs, Sophia was sitting on the edge of the bed, and Emily stood in front of her.Â
After letting out her anger, Emily immediately felt bad.Â
After all, Sophia was just a kid, even if she was acting like a brat.Â
Emily attempted to embrace Sophia. But just as she leaned in, Sophia abruptly shoved her away.Â
Sultaneously, she shrieked at Emily, “I don’t want Jõu2Â

Strangely enough, Sophia mustered enough strength to push Emily back a couple of steps.Â
Steadying herself, Emily stood still, fixated on Sophia for a long time.Â
She recalled how this tiny infant had grown into the girl in front of her. Her phone was filled with snapshots of every stage of Sophia’s growth.Â
However, at this moment, the girl she’d raised with so much care was telling her to scram. Her heart ached terribly.Â
Without uttering a single word, Emily let out a couple of bitter chuckles and then made her way to the sofa and satÂ
down.Â
Staring blankly into the distance, she shed silent tears.Â
Sophia stood there, looking a bit dazed. She realized she’d been too harsh. She wanted to call out “Mommy,” but the words simply wouldn’t come out.Â
Emily sat there in silence for ages, until her tears had aried up.Â
