Chapter 33 Not Fit to Be Sophie’s Mother 

With a fiery glare, Emily shot back at Derek, “Seriously? 

Don’t you have a clue about what you’ve done? And you’ve got the nerve to ask me what I’m going nuts about?” 

Derek, clearly feeling guilty, shifted his eyes uneasily. Then he turned on the waiter and griped, “What’s going on here? I’m a customer spending my money. Are you just gonna let this woman push me around?” 

Before the waiter could even process what was happening, Derek started barking orders, “Hey, go get the security. Have this crazy woman thrown out of the restaurant.” 

Emily wasn’t about to let Derek have his way. 

“I can leave by myself. No need for anyone to escort me,” she snapped and made to leave. 

But Derek wasn’t ready to let it go. “You think you can just slap me and spill wine on me and then walkway6:25 Do you really think that’s possible, Emily?”

However, before she could reach the snack stands, a police car pulled up and blocked her path. 

The police officers showed their IDs and a video of Emily attacking Derek. 

In the end, she was taken into the police car. 

After giving her statement at the police station, Emily was held in detention for eight hours. 

It was nine o’clock at night when a police officer opened the detention cell door. “Emily, someone’s here to bail you out. You’re good to go.” 

Who could it be? Vanessa? Or someone from the Carter family? 

Without asking, Emily got up and simply said, “Thanks.” 

Then she stepped out of the cell. 

In the police station lobby, she spotted a familiar figure. 

It was Ethan.

But their sex life had never been satisfying.

Hearing Emily’s footsteps but not seeing her come closer, Ethan turned around. 

“Let’s go,” he said, his voice emotionless. 

Emily didn’t care what he thought. 

She knew slapping Derek was a rash move, but she had no regrets. 

“Okay,” she replied casually and walked past him toward 

the exit. 

Gone were the days when she’d yearn to walk beside him or hold his hand. 

Now, they were like two strangers. 

Parked by the roadside was Ethan’s Rolls–Royce, yet Emily showed no inclination to get in.

door swung open, and Ethan’s voice came. “Get in. I want to talk to you.” 

Emily let her outstretched hand fall. Instead of taking the front seat, she opened the rear door and slipped inside. 

This took Ethan aback. He’d long been aware that Emily secretly yearned for him to do such things for her. 

But now that he did, she seemed indifferent. 

After a short spell of silence, he too slid into the back seat. 

When Ethan sat down beside her, Emily frowned slightly. 

It had been ages since they were this close. 

Despite being a smoker, Ethan always wore a hint of perfume, so his scent was quite pleasant. 

Sitting in the car, neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere grew increasingly tense. 

Ethan cracked open the window a bit and lit a cigarette. 

The smoke wafted towards Emily with the breeze, making

Unable to stand it any longer, she reached for the door handle to get out. But just then, Ethan suddenly grabbed her arm. 

He didn’t use much force, and Emily didn’t struggle. She sat back down. 

“Can you stop smoking? It stinks,” Emily said, her tone not very friendly. 

At the same time, she thought that if Nancy were sitting beside him right now, he probably wouldn’t even take out a cigarette. 

Moreover, he was planning to have a second child. 

Ethan didn’t respond right away. After a moment of contemplation, he tossed the cigarette out of the window. 

It was only after the smoke had cleared that he rolled up 

the window. 

After a long while, he finally asked, “Why did you start a fight?” 

Emily didn’t offer much of an explanation. “I did what:25

Ethan stared at her with a cold face and said in a low 

voice, “You can be impulsive, but have you thought about Sophie? 

“What if there’s a stain on Sophia’s record because of you? 

“No matter how powerful the Wilson family is, we can’t reach into the government.” 

Emily had thought about this in the detention room. She was indeed worried. 

It was understandable that Ethan was angry, but luckily, the police didn’t pursue the matter too much. 

Still, just thinking about it made her feel a chill down her spine. 

“I won’t do it again,” Emily promised. 

Another long silence filled the car. 

After a long time, Ethan suddenly said, “You’re really not fit to be Sophie’s mother.”
