Utterly incredulous, Andrew kept peppering Shawn with questions. “Is that seriously Emily? I must’ve been hallucinating, right?” 

Shawn gave him a little nudge. “Let’s get going. Ethan’s probably getting antsy.” 

As Andrew was being pushed into the restaurant, he still wouldn’t let it go. “I mean, did Emily just completely miss us? Or has she gone bonkers?” 

Andrew kept this up all the way until they reached the private dining room. 

Only when they saw Ethan did he start to tone it down. 

However, when they picked up their forks to start lunch, Andrew cracked. He scooted his chair closer to Ethan and said in a conspiratorial tone, “You’ll never guess who I bumped into just now.” 

Ethan wasn’t into these guessing games and replied without much enthusiasm, “Who?”

Andrew was beside himself with anger. “Ethan, you won’t believe it. She just blew me off. Before, she’d latch onto me, desperate to know where you were. But today, she acted like I was a ghost. It’s like she’s been replaced. Did she lose her mind?” 

Ethan continued eating steadily and simply replied, “Your guess is as good as mine.” 

“Ethan, she wouldn’t have asked for a divorce, would she?” Andrew was thoroughly confused. 

Ethan set his fork on the plate, gave Andrew a quick once–over, and said, “No.” 

“Could she have cheated on you?” Andrew started to scratch his head. 

As Andrew recalled seeing Emily with the same guy multiple times, his gut told him something was fishy. 

At the thought of Aaron, Ethan fell silent for a moment. 

After a brief pause, he said, “Possibly.”

Over the weekend, Aaron swung by Carter Manor to pick up Emily, and off they went to a lecture at the medical school.

But then, Ethan showed up behind Nancy. He strolled in, hands in his pockets, looking cool as a cucumber but with
