The loser let out a frustrated sigh. “Why am I always so unlucky?”
The winner gave her a sympathetic look. “Doesn’t matter if you drag it out or not, it’s all the same. Just get it over with quick.”
“You have no idea how hard she is to please! Worse than royalty, I swear! I’m just here doing my job, not her personal slave. She acts all high and mighty, thinks she’s all that just because she’s loaded!”
The loser kept grumbling under her breath while mixing the meds.

At the end of the hallway, someone appeared, and her coworker nudged her and whispered, “Quiet, someone’s coming.”
Kyler showed up with a bunch of flowers and some nutritional drinks, ready to pay Tessa a visit. Problem was, he didn’t know which room she was in, so he went straight to the nurse’s station to find out.
“Excuse me, which room is Tessa Rowe staying in?”

“Thanks.”
Without missing a beat, Kyler headed straight for Tessa’s room.
The two nurses started whispering to each other. “Seriously, another guy? They’re all pretty handsome, but their taste is seriously questionable!”
“I mean, who would actually go for a woman like her? Must be something wrong with their judgment,” one of them scoffed.
Tessa was feeling thirsty and was about to press the call button to ask the nurse for some water when Kyler knocked on the door.
Her expression softened instantly when she saw him. “What brings you here?” Tessa asked.
“Are you alone?” Kyler asked, having mentally prepared himself to run into Cassian, but he found only Tessa there.
Finding her alone caught him a little off guard.
Kyler frowned, a hint of reproach in his voice. “Cassian’s not looking after you? He just left you here alone?”
Tessa immediately spoke up to defend Cassian. “His dad’s feeling a bit under the weather, so I told him to go home and check on him. Nothing serious with me anyway. Just got a little dizzy from hitting my head earlier, but I’m much better now.”
“You got hurt? When did that happen?” Kyler asked, surprised. He had no idea about this until now.
“Just a minor thing, nothing to worry about,” Tessa said, clearly not wanting to get into it.
Kyler wanted to say something, maybe show he cared, but he stopped himself.
“After you left, Ryan announced he’s partnering with Regal Investment,” Kyler told Tessa, filling her in on what happened after she was gone.
Tessa had already heard the news, and honestly, she’d flipped out in her hospital room earlier and ended making one of the nurses cry.
But after letting all that out, she seemed pretty calm now.
“It’s fine. Everyone has the right to make their own choices. I respect Mr. Walker’s decision,” Tessa said.

“What I don’t get is, I’m usually only mentioned in entertainment news, so why did I suddenly show up in the finance section that time? Feels like someone was pushing the narrative behind the scenes, and that’s probably why Mr. Walker misunderstood me.”
Hearing her explanation, Kyler instantly made the connection to Aurelia.
‘Aurelia’s the one who came out on top here. Did she really orchestrate all that media buzz just to benefit herself?’ he wondered.

The conference wrapped up without a hitch.
Aurelia headed over to the Locke residence to give Benjamin an update on her work. As soon as she walked in, she spotted Cassian sitting at the dining table, eating.
She stopped for a second, feeling a bit puzzled.
‘Didn’t Jasper say Tessa wasn’t feeling well and Cassian went to the hospital with her?‘ Aurelia wondered.
‘So why isn’t he at the hospital, doting on his precious girl?‘ she thought, a hint of sarcasm creeping in.
If she’d known Cassian would be here tonight, she would’ve picked another day to report to Benjamin.
But since she was already here, there was no point in backing out now.
So Aurelia strode in confidently, not bothering to hide her presence.
Abigail was busy in the kitchen, but when she heard the commotion, she poked her head out and her face lit up. “Aurelia, what brings you here? Have you eaten yet? If not, stay and have some.”
Aurelia was about to say she’d already eaten.
But Cassian jumped in before she could. “She just came straight from the conference. Bet she hasn’t had anything yet.”
“Alright, let me get you a plate and some soup. Go wash your hands and come eat while it’s still hot,” Abigail said cheerfully, bustling off to set Aurelia up at the table.

Cassian, who was sitting closer to the kitchen, reached over and took the bowl from Abigail, then handed it to Aurelia.
As Aurelia took the bowl, her damp hand brushed across the back of Cassian’s, leaving his skin a little slick.
After sitting back down, Cassian unconsciously rubbed his fingers together.
Aurelia didn’t even glance at him, her voice cool and distant as she said, “Thanks.”
She sat down and dug into her meal, not giving anything else a second thought.
It was like Cassian didn’t exist. She didn’t spare him a single look.
Cassian was already eating when Aurelia sat down, so really, he should’ve finished first.
But somehow, he just kept eating. By the time Aurelia was done, he was still at it.
‘When did he get such an appetite?‘ Aurelia wondered, kind of amazed.
It made things awkward. She couldn’t even start clearing the dishes without making it weird.
It was Abigail who finally broke the awkward silence. “You’re here to see Mr. Locke, right? He’s waiting for you in his study. Just head on in.”
“Alright,” Aurelia replied.
She got up and made her way to the study.
Benjamin’s secretary had already brought him up to speed, so Aurelia didn’t have much else to say.
Still, she hung out for a while, just making small talk with Benjamin to keep him company.
It was quiet outside, so Aurelia figured Cassian must’ve left by now.
Once she felt it was about time, she got up and said her goodbyes to Benjamin.
But when Aurelia came out, to her surprise, Cassian was still there, just sitting on the couch, half–naked from the waist up.
After seven years together, they’d seen it all when it came to each other. Nothing was supposed to be new.
Yet right now, Aurelia found herself feeling strangely uneasy, her gaze drifting anywhere but at him.
