The man let out a hearty laugh. 

“That’s exactly what makes them badass. They’re not the kind you want to mess with,” he said. 

“But we really don’t need to bother with them,” his wife replied.

“What do you know? The apocalypse is brutal. Only if we join a tougher crew can we hope to make it,” the man said. 

Just as the man started the engine and was about to chase after them, the RV up ahead suddenly slammed to a stop. 

If he hadn’t hit the brakes fast enough, they would’ve crashed right into it. 

While he was still wondering what was going on, two women stepped out of the RV, and the cool, striking woman from the passenger seat got out too. 

“Damn, they’re all gorgeous,” he blurted out. 

Renee, his wife, sitting in the back, rolled her eyes. “Evan, they’re all gorgeous. Are you really thinking about going over there to hit on them?” 

Evan, the man, quickly let out a couple of nervous laughs. “I’ve got you, Renee. That’s more than enough for me. Besides, those girls look like they’re not to be messed with. I wouldn’t dare.” 

“Hmph! I bet you’ve got the desire but not the guts…” Renee shot back. 

Renee trailed off as she saw the three women headed their way. 

One of them had a pistol. 

Renee’s heart raced with fear. 

“H–Honey, are they coming to kill us? Quick, turn around!” Renee stammered, panic rising in her voice. 

Evan forced a bitter smile. “It’s jammed solid back there. Where do you expect me to go?” 

“Then… then what now?” Renee stammered, her voice shaking with panic. 

Renee’s face went white as she hugged her sleeping daughter tightly, totally panicked and at a complete loss. 

Evan took a deep breath. As the three women approached, he quickly opened the car door and put on a smile. 

“Hello, Madams, I…” Evan started. 

Before he could finish, the words stuck in his throat. He barely had time to glance up before those long legs strode right past him, not even sparing him a look. 

Evan blinked, and as soon as he turned around, he almost wet hi pants. 

“Oh my God!” Evan shouted. 

A centipede, easily thirty feet tall, was barreling toward them, rasing its countless claws and crushing cars beneath its weight. 

Evan felt his scalp crawl and his legs turn to jelly. Instinct screamed at him to run. 

But before he could even move, the three girls had already rush forward, blades flashing, leaving Evan utterly

dumbstruck. 

‘Damn!” Evan thought. What’s with girls these days? Are they all his fierce, or do they just have a death wish?” 

He couldn’t bear to watch these three girls get ripped to shreds that giant centipede, so he blurted out. 

“Are you trying to get yourselves killed? Get back now!” Evan yelled.

But the three girls didn’t even spare him a glance. They were already geared up for a fight, ready to throw down. 

Evan was practically jumping up and down in panic, but he didnt dare go forward. He shouted toward Frank in the RV. 

“Hey, aren’t you going to rein in your crazy kids? That thing’s a mutant centipede!” Evan yelled. 

But instead of doing anything, Frank just lit up a smoke and yawned, totally unfazed. 

Molly watched Evan freaking out outside, jumping up and down and couldn’t help but roll her eyes. 

She cranked open the window and said impatiently, “What’s all the noise about? It’s just a level–two mutant centipede. Stop making such a fuss.” 

The window slammed shut, and Evan felt his whole world collapse. He was freaking out. 

‘A level–two mutant centipede? We’re doomed. Seriously doomed. We’re all about to be centipede chow, Evan thought, his mind spinning out of control. 

He knew that once plants and animals mutated, even if they were the same power level as humans, they’d crush humans without breaking a sweat. 

So this level–two centipede was basically as strong as a level–three powered human. 

‘Do level–three powered humans even exist in this world?‘ Evan wondered, despair creeping in. ‘No way. Absolutely not!‘ 

Evan stared daggers at Frank in the driver’s seat, who was just sitting there, lazily puffing on his cigarette like he didn’t have a care in the world. Evan stomped his foot, seething with frustration. 

“Fine, guess I had you pegged all wrong,” Evan grumbled. 

He turned away, about to yell for Renee to come help him kill the centipede. 

But then, something said behind him made him trip and almost eat dirt. 

Molly asked, “Dad, who’s that guy?” 

Frank replied, “No clue. Probably some moron.” 

Evan’s eyes were blazing. ‘Not only is he ignoring those chicks, but now he’s talking smack about me? Unbelievable! That’s messed up 

He ran up to his own car and yelled, “Renee, gear up!” 

Renee saw what was happening, tucked a blanket around their daughter, snatched up her crossbow, and jumped out 

“Wait for my signal, Renee told him. 

“Got it, honey,” Evan replied. 

Turned out, between the two of them, Renee was the one who adually did all the fighting

Chloe came over with Emily and Mindy. She didn’t join the fight herself and just turned to them and said, “You two are level–two powered humans now, right? Just in time to try your hand at this centipede.” 

Up till now, they’d only tangled with level–one zombies and munt animals. They hadn’t had a real opponent yet, so there was no way to really level up their skills in a fight. 

They both nodded, and Mindy cracked her mutant willow branch against the ground, the sound snapping like a whip. 

At the same time, the concrete under their feet split open, and thick vines as big as an arm snaked their way up from below. 

“Come on, you monster! Let me show you what I’ve got!” Mindy yelled. 

She snapped the thick vine out, locking it tight around the mutant centipede’s front leg. 

Caught off guard by the sudden pull, the centipede pitched forward, its momentum carrying it right off the highway and crashing down below. 

Mindy didn’t let her guard down for a second, keeping a sharp eye on the direction where the centipede had crashed. 

Emily yelled, “Careful!” 

The mutant centipede gave a violent jerk, and the thick vine burst apart in a shower of splinters. 

“Mind Storm!” Emily yelled. 

She launched a psychic attack, and an invisible force gripped the mutant centipede tight. 

The centipede twisted in pain, thrashing on the ground, its eyes going blank. 

Meanwhile, the broken vines nearby started rooting and spreading from the split ends, quickly hoisting Mindy into the air. 

She swung her mutant willow branch and snapped it across the dentipede’s head with a loud crack. 

But even with that fierce hit, it barely left a scratch. The centipede’s shell was as hard as steel. 

It was furious, letting out a strange, piercing screech. It lashed out with a leg, ignoring the tangle of vines in its way and aiming straight for Mindy’s heart. 

“Get back!” Chloe commanded. 

Chloe’s eyes flashed dangerously, and with a swift motion, a black of wind sliced through the air, chopping the centipede’s leg clean off. 

The vines hauled Mindy back just in time; her face was ghostlyle, and she was gasping for air. 

“Captain, I couldn’t finish the job,” Mindy said, her voice shaky with guilt. 

Chloe didn’t even look her way. As soon as the mutant centipede unged again, she waved her hand, and an ice blade appeared at its neck. 

With a swift slice, the centipede’s throat was cut open in an instat 

“This is a mutant centipede with abilities. Its shell has mutated to be as hard as steel, and its claws are sharp as blades, Chloe explained. 

She glanced at Emily, who still looked pale. “That centipede is squething else. There’s no shame in losing to it.” 

Evan and Renee had just made it over when the fight was already finished.

‘Uh… what just happened?‘ Evan and Renee both froze, totally stunned. 

They couldn’t help but stare at Chloe, eyes full of awe. 

They both swallowed hard, unable to look away.

“Damn, that was badass,” Evan blurted out, still in shock. 

Evan dashed over to the mutant centipede, dug out the zombie gore, and offered it to Chloe with both hands. 

“Here you go, Madam. This is your core,” Evan said, his voice brimming with respect. 

Just a minute ago, he was calling them a bunch of crazy kids, and now he was acting like they were legendary heroines.
