He never expected it to be Cassian’s team dinner. 

When Blake spotted Stephen, he immediately straightened up and greeted him with respect. “Dr. Horton, it’s been a while.”

Tessa grinned and said, “If I hadn’t gone overseas for school, maybe I could’ve been one of Dr. Horton’s students too.” 

Raphael agreed instantly, “Yeah, that’s totally possible. Finance and math go hand in hand, and Ashmont University even has an interdisciplinary program.” 

Blake added, “Hey, it’s not too late to try now! The rest of us have been out of school so long we’ve forgotten everything, but Tessa only finished her PhD two years ago. She’s still got a real shot.” 

Stephen, who’d been quiet most of the night, finally spoke up. “Becoming my student isn’t easy.” 

Tessa replied with confidence, “I’d really like to give it a try.” 

If she could become Stephen’s student, it would mean she’d truly broken into the inner circle of the capital world, 

Once she was firmly established there and became true capital herself, anything she wanted would be hers for the taking. 

Halfway through the meal, Stephen made up an excuse and slipped out early.

His face instantly darkened. “Why are you still here?” 

“Obviously, I’m waiting for you,” Aurelia said, giving the nanny a meaningful glance.

Once he finally swallowed the medicine, Aurelia finally brought up that she needed a favor from him. 

Stephen snorted, a bit sarcastic. “I figured you’d never actually ask me for help.” 

He’d naturally caught wind of all the latest news in the industry. 

He was keeping his distance, waiting to see just how far Aurelia could go. 

He treated Aurelia like a strict mentor, watching as she stumbled her way forward! 

Even when she fell, he wouldn’t reach out to help. He’d simply encourage her to get back up on her own. 

Unless she was truly struggling and came to him for help, only then would he step

First thing the next morning, Aurelia went to meet with another accounting firm and left Tyson in charge of the government meeting. 

Wade personally called Aurelia, wanting to know what time she’d be coming by today. 

But when Aurelia said she had something else to handle and couldn’t make it, Wade couldn’t hide the disappointment in his 

voice. 

Just as he hung up, Kyler showed up, 

Noticing the disappointment on Wade’s face, Kyler asked, “What’s wrong?” 

“Aurelia can’t make it today. She’s got something else going on,” Wade replied, sounding a bit down.
