At the hospital, it was the same doctor as last time stitching Cassian up.

The doctor frowned as he looked at the wound. “Back to the same spot, huh? Last time, it was just a scratch, barely left a mark. But this time, it’s a lot deeper. This one’s going to leave a scar for sure.” 

Aurelia remembered the last time Cassian was injured. 

Word was, it happened in a car accident when he was out with Tessa, but it was no big deal. 

It was so minor that unless one really looked, or one would never even notice the scar. 

Funny thing was, Aurelia hadn’t actually looked at Cassian closely in months. 

If the doctor hadn’t mentioned it, she honestly wouldn’t have remembered. 

Aurelia tilted her head, her gaze lingering on the wound above his brow, her elegant eyebrows drawn together in concern. 

Her expression was layered. There was worry in her eyes, but something else lingered beneath. 

Mostly, though, it was a tangled mix of unease and bottled–up emotion. 

Cassian, sensing what was on her mind, spoke in an unhurried tone, “Don’t stress about it. These days, getting rid of scars is easy.” 

Aurelia just looked at him, at a loss for words. 

She wasn’t worried about the scar at all. What really bugged her was that she was in Cassian’s debt again, and honestly, it was starting to get on her nerves. 

After cleaning the wound, the doctor was about to start stitching it up. 

“Why don’t you have your girlfriend wait outside? Stitching this up isn’t exactly a pretty sight. It might make her squeamish,” the doctor said to Cassian before starting. 

Cassian was just about to say something. 

But Aurelia jumped in before he could answer, “I’m not his girlfriend.” 

Cassian shot her a laid–back glance, totally unfazed. 

In the end, Aurelia left the room. 

She stayed out the whole time while the doctor finished treating Cassian’s wound. 

The doctor went over all the aftercare instructions with Cassian and set him up for an IV drip to help with the inflammation. 

When Cassian stepped out of the treatment room, his gaze automatically searched the hallway. 

But Aurelia was nowhere to be seen. 

He looked down at the medical slip in his hand, giving a small, almost careless smile. Then he made his way to the IV room to get his drip started. 

He hadn’t even taken two steps when Aurelia called out from behind him. “Cassian.” 

He stopped in his tracks and turned around, a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes as he looked at her. Cassian couldn’t help but

wonder what she was thinking. 

Aurelia must’ve gone out to buy something. She came back carrying a shopping bag. 

As she got closer, Cassian drawled, “Thought you’d just leave me here to fend for myself.” 

Aurelia gave him a chilly look. “I’m not that cold.” 

He got hurt because of me. There was no way she would just leave you hanging. 

This is just about responsibility, nothing else. 

Cassian was about to say something, but Aurelia cut in. “I’ve arranged for a helper. He should be here soon. If you need anything, just ask him. 

“I grabbed some water and snacks, so if you’re hungry, help yourself. And I left Walter here. Once you’re done with the IV, he’ll drive you home.” 

She really had everything covered. 

But she kept her boundaries clear. 

She made it obvious she wasn’t interested in getting involved with him beyond what responsibility demanded. 

The boundaries were crystal clear. 

Cassian didn’t mind. He just said, “No need for Walter to stick around. Someone else is coming to pick me up.” 

He didn’t say who, but Aurelia just assumed it was Tessa. 

Tessa had met Walter before and knew he worked for Aurelia. 

Cassian probably arranged it this way to avoid any misunderstandings with Tessa./ 

So Aurelia didn’t insist. 

Just then, the care worker she’d arranged showed up. Aurelia handed Cassian over and left her number. 

She told the care worker to call her directly if anything came up. 

After making sure everything was settled, Aurelia left in a hurry, not looking back. 

When Chole rushed over from the traffic police, she only saw Cassian and a care worker with him. 

She blurted out, “Where’s Ms. Corin?” 

Cassian replied coolly, “She left.” 

Chole couldn’t believe it. “She left?” 

‘Seriously? Is that even possible?‘ Chole thought, completely battled. 

Back when Aurelia was at Honoria Capital, she was practically glued to Cassian’s side 24/7. 

It wasn’t just big stuff like car accidents. Even if he had a headache or a fever, Aurelia would take care of him herself, never letting anyone else do it. 

Chole was this surprised because she’d seen firsthand just how devoted Aurelia used to be to Cassian.

Cassian looked completely unfazed, gesturing at the care worker. “Isn’t that what he’s here for?” 

Chole frowned, still confused. “But you got hurt because of her. How could she just walk away?” 

Cassian cut her off, his tone suddenly icy. “I don’t want to hear that again.” 

Chole flinched, caught off guard by his reaction. 

She realized she’d stepped out of bounds. 

After all, Cassian had a fiancée now, and he was totally devoted to her. 

If Tessa found out Cassian got hurt saving Aurelia, she’d definitely read too much into it.

Chole quickly explained, “I didn’t mean anything by it. I just feel like Ms. Corin’s changed. She seems a lot colder than she used to be.” 

Cassian leaned back in his chair, eyes half–closed, his voice a little rough. “That’s exactly how it should be. That’s what it takes to survive in the cutthroat world of business.” 

He paused, his tone turning cold. “She doesn’t owe me anything.” 

Whether it was about feelings or anything else, she didn’t owe him a thing. 

Chole was still lost. Cassian’s words were just too cryptic for her to wrap her head around. 

‘He got hurt saving Ms. Corin. Doesn’t she owe him at least something for that?‘ Chole wondered, completely puzzled. 

But before she could say anything, Cassian cut her off and switched the topic, asking about the car accident. 

Chole gave him the facts. “The driver of the car has been taken into custody. Apparently, it was drunk driving.” 

In an instant, Cassian’s eyes opened sharply, his gaze turning icy. 

‘Drunk driving, huh?‘ Cassian thought, his jaw tightening.

Early the next morning, Aurelia called Cassian to check on his wound. 

Cassian picked up, his tone cool and distant. “It’s nothing serious, Ms. Corin. You don’t need to worry.” 

Aurelia replied, “That’s good to hear.” 

Just as she was about to hang up, Tessa’s soft, sleepy voice came through the line, asking something. 

She sounded all soft and sleepy, like she’d just woken up. 

“Who’s calling so early?” Tessa mumbled. 

Aurelia didn’t wait to hear Cassian’s answer. She just hung up. 

She’d only called out of a sense of obligation anyway. Now that she knew he was fine, she’d done what she felt she owed him. 

Anything else was none of her business. 

For the next few days, Aurelia was totally swamped, juggling work and study nonstop. 

She pretty much put the whole thing out of her mind.

She did remember the car accident at one point and asked Walter about it.

Walter told her the traffic cops had ruled it was drunk driving, and the guy responsible had already gotten hit with a heavy penalty. 

With the police having settled it, Aurelia just let it go and didn’t pay any more attention. 

As long as everything was handled according to the law, that was good enough for her. 

With a mountain of work piling up, Aurelia was burning the midnight oil again. 

She asked Miranda to grab her a coffee. 

Miranda showed up with the coffee in no time, and as she handed it over, Aurelia noticed three or four band–aids stuck on her hands. 

Aurelia frowned. “What happened to your hands? Why are you all banged up?” 

Miranda quickly hid her hands behind her back, her eyes darting nervously. “My partner’s birthday is coming up, so I wanted to make something special. I started learning wood carving, but ended up nicking myself a few times. It’s nothing, just a few scrapes.” 

Aurelia paused for a moment, then smirked, “Hope you come out on top!”
