Aurelia had accompanied Tyson to three roadshows, and seeing his improvement, she decided to let him handle the rest on his own. ‘He needs to learn to stand on his feet, Aurelia thought. 

As for Aurelia, she had to spend time preparing for the master’s program application. There was only about a month left, and time was running out. 

Of course, keeping tabs on industry news was a habit Aurelia had picked up over the years. So lately, she had heard a lot about HelixTech. 

In the end, Nexora Capital didn’t invest, and no one knew the reason. However, HelixTech didn’t seem to be affected much. Cassian had managed to secure new investments from overseas. Clearly, he was backing Tessa with all his might. 

Rumor had it that Cassian had strongly protected Tessa because he wanted her to gain Benjamin’s approval as soon as possible so he could marry her into the family. 

Aurelia thought that the rumor sounded pretty credible. After all, Cassian really was desperate to marry Tessa. That was why, ever since Tessa returned to the country, he had been doing everything he could to help her shine. 

All the doubts that had been bugging Aurelia finally fell into place. Aurelia just sighed to herself for a moment, then buried herself in her books again. 

Only when Miranda dropped by with soup did Aurelia realize it was already dark outside. As expected, Miranda grumbled as she ladled out the soup, “I knew you’d forget to eat, so I whipped up three extra dishes.” 

Aurelia took a few sips to warm herself up. “Has your cooking been slipping lately?” she asked. 

Miranda paused before asking, “Does it taste off?” 

“No, it’s not,” Aurelia said, “but it just doesn’t have that same sweet, fresh taste it used to.” 

Miranda mumbled, “Perhaps I didn’t let it simmer long enough.” 

“It’s still good,” Aurelia replied. She was just being honest, not picky. 

While Aurelia was eating, Miranda updated her on the company situation. “While you were away on business last week, Alina came by twice, and she showed up again this week. I turned her away every time,” Miranda said. 

“She probably wants to talk to me about Vanessa. Just ignore her. Let the lawyers handle it,” Aurelia said. 

Aurelia’s stance remained unwaver. No matter how many times Alina tried to reach out, her answer wouldn’t change. ‘So there’s no need to meet her, Aurelia thought.

Tessa had just returned from Coverhart City and was in high spirits. She also brought gifts for Alina and Karlie. 

Normally, Karlie couldn’t wait to unwrap the gifts the moment she saw them. But this time, she just set the gift aside, tears welled up in her eyes when she asked, “Tessa, can you please beg Cassian to find a way to get my mom out of lockup?” 

Tessa frowned and asked Alina. “Aurelia still refuses to see you?” 

“Yeah,” Alina answered. 

Tessa’s expression instantly turned icy. “What does she want to settle this?” 

“If I knew it, things would be a lot simpler,” Alina said helplessly. As Alina didn’t know what Aurelia wanted, she couldn’t

Karlie was sobbing, her voice trembling. “Tessa, please, can you beg Cassian? My mom’s been locked up for almost three weeks now. She can’t eat or sleep well. She’s gotten so skinny. I’m sure Cassian will help if you beg him 

Tessa knew deep down that Vanessa was in trouble because of her. She couldn’t just say no to her. “I’ll call him right now,” Tessa said. 

Just as Miranda left, Aurelia planned to finish reading the remaining materials and then shower. But then her phone lit up with a call from Cassian. 

She didn’t pick up. Without thinking, she knew exactly what he was calling about. To stay focused on her studies, she just powered off her phone. 

The following morning, when Aurelia turned on her phone, she realized Cassian had sent her a message on WhatsApp after he failed to call her. 

Cassian: [Aurelia, let’s talk.] 

[I won’t take up much of your time.] 

[We can talk on the phone or meet up, whichever is convenient for you.] 

Perhaps because she didn’t reply, Cassian stopped messaging her again. Aurelia didn’t hesitate to delete Cassian’s message. 

While she was washing up in the morning, her phone rang with another call from Cassian. She checked the time; it was only 6:30 am. ‘Wow, he’s really anxious, Aurelia thought to herself. 

After all these years, she had never seen him get so worked up over anyone before. Nonetheless, Aurelia didn’t intend to answer the call. 

In this matter, she was the victim. No way anyone could guilt–trip her into anything. So Aurelia flat–out ignored Cassian’s calls, even after he kept calling two or three more times. 

What really caught Aurelia off guard was that Cassian actually showed up at her office to corner her. Without missing a beat, Aurelia told her driver, “Turn around. Take me straight to Ashmont University.” 

At the same time, she texted Miranda to cancel the morning meeting and changed it to an online meeting. In the end, Aurelia ended up holding the meeting from a bench beside the field at Ashmont University. 

The meeting ended early, so Aurelia went to the lecture hall ahead of schedule. Stephen was set to give a talk today. Since she was early, she managed to snag a great seat, 

The moment she sat down, she buried herself in her books. Students started trickling into the lecture hall, and soon, someone took the seat right next to her. 

Aurelia thought it was another student coming for the lecture, so she didn’t really pay attention. Only when the lecture was about to start did Aurelia finally glance up from her notes, moving her stiff neck. 

As she turned her head, she spotted a familiar face. “Mr. Lautner? When did you get here?” Aurelia blurted out, surprised. 

Aurelia was surprised because she never expected to see Wade at Stephen’s lecture. The two didn’t seem to have anything in 

common. 

Wade’s eyes were full of smiles with little crinkles at the corners. “I’ve been here for a while. You looked so engrossed in your studies, so I didn’t interrupt.”

“Are you here for work or something else?” Aurelia asked. 

“I’m off today, so I just thought of dropping by.” Wade replied.

Of course, he didn’t say why he had decided to drop by Ashmont University. A while back, Kyler had called him, just making small talk, and mentioned that Aurelia was planning to apply for Stephen’s master’s program. 

Kyler might have just mentioned it, but Wade took it to heart. He checked when Stephen was giving a lecture at Ashmont University and figured Aurelia would probably show up. He thus decided to drop by and see if he could bump into her. 

The moment he walked in and spotted Aurelia, he knew he had made the right call. Aurelia just assumed it was a random run–in, though she did find it odd that Wade showed up to a lecture without bringing a notebook or pen. 

Wade just shrugged. “I’ll borrow from you later,” he said. 

“No problem,” Aurelia replied, passing him her notebook and pen without hesitation. 

This time, Tessa showed up a bit late and could only find a seat way off in the corner. When the lecture started, she glanced toward the front, and the people she first noticed were Aurelia and Wade. 

Although Aurelia had her back to her, Tessa recognized her right away. But what really surprised Tessa was seeing Wade sitting right next to Aurelia. 

In the past, Tessa wouldn’t even spare Aurelia a glance. But this time, she noticed that whenever Aurelia looked toward the podium, Wade would look at her. 

It was obvious his attention was on Aurelia. Tessa couldn’t figure out why Wade would associate with someone like Aurelia. Moreover, Wade had nothing to do with this lecture anyway, as he wasn’t preparing for the master’s program application.
