Chapter 117Â
Chloe hesitated for a moment.Â
With so many people in the group now, there was barely enough room for everyone in the RV.Â
Since they would be at Bluehaven Base soon, Chloe said calmly, “If you don’t mind crashing on the floor.”Â
“It’s fine, we don’t mind,” Evan answered.Â
Evan and his family climbed into the RV, and as soon as the door swung open, a wave of warmth washed over them, and everyone instantly felt their tension melt away.Â
“Let’s just squeeze in for now. We’ll figure something out once we get to the base,” Chloe said.Â
She had plenty of SUVS stashed away in her spiritual space, but she couldn’t just whip them out in front of everyone without raising eyebrows.Â
Somehow, their pace slowed to a crawl, and after a whole week of inching forward, they finally rolled up to Bluehaven Base.Â
They lined up at the entrance to Bluehaven Base, joining the long queue.Â
Emily came running over from the front. She said, “Chloe, I just found out that if we want to get in, they’re gonna confiscate all our vehicles, and we have to hand over half our supplies.”Â
Frank’s eyes went wide. He exclaimed, “What? That’s seriously messed up.”Â
Chloe thought for a moment, then said to everyone, “You guys wait here in line. Let me go stash the vehicles.”Â
Everyone nodded, understanding exactly what she meant.Â
There were so many survivors that Chloe and her crew had to wait in line from sunrise to late afternoon before it was finally their turn.Â
Bluehaven Base had two entrances. One was for Awakened Group members coming back from missions. They entered through the main gate, each with an ID tag hanging around their neck.Â
That was their pass to get inside.Â
The other entrance was for survivors like Chloe and her crew, all waiting in line.Â
Crowds of people were packed together, and everyone had to get checked for any strange wounds or signs of zombie bites.Â
There were two long lines snaking ahead of them.Â
Suddenly, someone spat, “Chloe? You’re still alive?”Â
Turning around, Chloe saw Daisy and Mandy.Â
Chloe raised an eyebrow.Â
She said, “You guys made it out alive, too?”Â
Chloe thought, ‘Guess the army must’ve saved them. Lucky bastards.Â
‘But that’s fine. I’ll take my time making them pay!‘Â
She wasn’t going to let a single one of her old enemies from her previous life get away.Â

“Chloe, you wicked woman, just you wait. This isn’t over, Shawn hissed.Â

“Shawn, didn’t expect you to make it out alive either?” Chloe said, a smirk tugging at her lips. She thought, “This is gonna beÂ
fun.Â
‘Let’s see who takes who downÂ
Shawn lifted his chin, raised his hand, and a flicker of fire shot straight at Chloe. But in the blink of an eye, the flame was snuffed out.Â
Shawn’s expression turned to shock.Â
He thought, ‘How did that damn Chloe snuff out my fire?”Â
“Oh, so that’s why you’re acting all high and mighty. You finally awakened your powers, huh? Flames barely bigger than a bean. Aren’t you embarrassed to show those off?” Mindy sneered.Â
Chloe faked trying to stop Mindy. She said, “Come on, don’t be so harsh. That flame is probably more than enough to roastÂ
an ant.”Â
Emily jumped in, covering her mouth in mock surprise. She exclaimed, “Oh my god, you’re a fire–powered human? That’s so cool. Wait, though, your powers are brand new, right? Looks like you haven’t even hit level one yet.Â
“What a loser.”Â
With everyone throwing jabs at him, Shawn was so pissed. Just as he was about to fire back, Daisy yanked him back.Â
“Shawn, don’t bother with them now. You’re in the Awakened Group. Trust me, you’ll have all the chances you need to crush them later,” Daisy said.Â
“Oh wow, I’m just shaking in my boots,” Emily said, laying on the sarcasm thick and pretending to be terrified.Â
Her dramatic act made Daisy so mad that she looked as if she were about to explode and throttle Emily right then and there.Â
Just then, a staff member barked, “What’s all the noise about? Hurry up and get checked.”Â
It was finally their turn. One by one, they were led into the inspection room, where a woman stood with a clipboard, jotting down notes.Â
“Name, age, any abilities or powers…” the woman asked.Â
Chloe answered each question, and when asked about her powers, she claimed to have a healing ability.Â
The inspector looked up, eyebrows raised in surprise. Her icy attitude vanished, replaced by a warm, friendly grin.Â
Chloe was quickly waved through.Â
Bluehaven Base was huge. It was basically a whole small city boxed in by towering walls.Â
As soon as Chloe stepped out, she saw a bunch of ragged people at the entrance, holding up hand–drawn maps, trying to catch the attention of newcomers.Â
A ten–year–old boy stood right next to Chloe, eagerly pitching his hand–drawn map to her. He said, “Hey, miss, you need map of Bluehaven Base? I’ve got a super detailed one. Just one cookie, that’s all!”Â
“How long have you been out here?” Chloe asked, her voice gentle.Â
The boy had on a puffy jacket and pants, but they were so dirty and stained that one couldn’t even tell what color they wer supposed to be anymore.Â

His face was ghostly pale, his lips cracked, and he was so skinny he was little more than skin and bones.Â
“Miss, I’m a local here. I know this place inside out. Wherever you want to go, I can show you around all day. All I ask is a bottle of water,” the boy said, hope shining in his eyes.Â
Chloe waited for her teammates, listening as the boy tried to sell himself as a guide.Â
Bluchaven Base was divided into five districts.Â
The Prime District was where the leaders and top officials lived. They were living in luxury villas.Â
The Elite District was reserved for military officers and high–ranking powered humans.Â
Both districts were pretty small and sat right in the center of Bluehaven Base, but they were totally safe, with water, electricity, and armed guards protecting them.Â
The Guardian, Wild, and Refugee Districts were the biggest, wrapping around the Prime and Elite Districts.Â
The Guardian District housed the military and Awakened Group members. One could rent a three–bedroom place for a month with just 20 pounds of food.Â
The Wild District was a total mess, a real melting pot of people: newly awakened powered humans, thugs who’d rob and kill for anything.Â
One could rent a three–bedroom place there for just five pounds of food a month.Â
The Refugee District was the lowest tier, but it was also massive. It covered more than half of the entire base.Â
It was crammed full of survivors, refugees, and all kinds of thugs.Â
One could rent a place there for just three pounds of food a month, but there was no water, no electricity, and it was dangerous as hell.Â
Most nights, thugs would break in, kill whoever was inside, and take over the place for themselves.Â
But there were just way too many refugees. Most of them were starving to the point of cannibalism, and none of them had any food left to rent a place.Â
So most people ended up packed into the basements of malls or abandoned shopping centers, which had basically become the last refugee camps for the desperate.Â
Chloe quickly got the lay of the land at Bluehaven Base. After chatting it over with Frank and the others, they decided to head for the Guardian District.Â
Not only could they rent a villa there, but it also had water and electricity, and most importantly, it was safe.Â
There were a bunch of kids in their group, and once they found Linda and her family, they’d have a place to stay.Â
When the boy heard they were planning to go to the Guardian District, his eyes went wide. Worried he hadn’t made it he quickly repeated himself.Â
He explained, “Miss, if you want to get into the Guardian District, it’s not just about having a bunch of food. You gotta liÂ
powers, too.Â
“Like, at least half your team needs to be level one or higher powered humans.”Â
Chloe nodded and said, “Yeah, I heard there are some villas in the Guardian District. Any idea if there are still some available? Could you take us to where we sign up?Â

“Don’t worry, we’ll make sure you get your share of supplies.”Â
The boy was floored. He never thought he’d run into such a big shot.Â
He didn’t dare pull any tricks now.Â
So he led Chloe and her crew to the registration oflice, acting super polite the whole way.Â
He glanced over at the soup kitchen nearby and couldn’t help but lick his lips.Â
