Chapter 118 

Chloe glanced over at the soup kitchen. There were only two of them, and refugees were lined up as far as the eye could see. 

Each person clutched a chipped bowl, as if straight out of an old movie about street beggars. Chloe couldn’t help but be shocked. 

“They actually give out free food here?” she asked. 

The boy glanced longingly at the refugees and couldn’t help but lick his lips. 

He explained, “Miss, you might not know this, but our base is actually pretty humane. Every new refugee who comes flooding in gets a bowl of soup every day, but only for three days.” 

He pointed at the white tags hanging around the refugees‘ necks and added, “See those? That’s their pass.” 

Then he gestured toward the registration desk and said, “When you first arrive at the base, they hand out three white tags for free when you register. Each one gets you a bowl of soup.” 

Chloe glanced over and noticed there were three registration desks, each marked with a sign for the Guardian District, Wild District, and Refugee District. 

“That’s where folks sign up for their district, hand over any supplies, and sort out a place to live,” the boy explained. 

He pointed toward a nearby tower and added, “There’s another registration desk inside that building. It’s just for Awakened Groups to grab missions and head out for action.” 

Emily glanced around. The Guardian District registration desk was practically deserted. Almost no one was there, and it was super quiet. 

But the Wild District and Refugee District lines were packed, with people pushing and shoving like crazy. 

Some folks were shouting, others were cursing up a storm, and a few tried to cut in line only to get jumped by the crowd. It was chaos. 

Just then, a security guy in an army jacket, clutching a sniper rifle, stepped out to keep things under control. 

He fired a shot, blowing a hole straight through the troublemaker’s temple. 

He shouted, “Cut the crap! Line up! Anyone causing trouble, dead!” 

The refugees instantly fell silent. Guess there was always a bigger bully. The refugees had given the soldiers hell on the way here, but now, just one shot was enough to shut everyone up. 

Chloe’s crew had finally gathered: nine grown–ups, three kids, and a scrawny, sick–looking “kitten” tagging along. 

As soon as they showed up at the Guardian District registration desk, everyone’s eyes were on them in a flash. 

The woman behind the registration desk was nodding off. It had been ages since anyone showed up to sign up here. 

“Hello,” Chloe said. 

The staff at the registration desk was a woman in her thirties. She wore a gray down jacket and a military cap. 

Her skin was pale, and her lips were cracked, but she looked pretty clean for the apocalypse. She clearly hadn’t suffered 

the rest. 

She definitely had some strings pulled for her.

When the woman looked up and saw Chloe.

Chloe nodded and said, “Yeah, we want to move into

“Only top–tier powered humans or military folks are allowed in the Guardian District. Are you sure you want to do that?” she asked. 

“We’re all Level 1 powered humans or higher, and we’ve already been verified,” Chloe replied. 

Right then, Mindy stepped up and handed over their checked ID cards. 

The woman’s tone turned respectful in an instant. 

The base would do anything to recruit folks like them. No way she’d risk offending this group. 

She pulled up a map on her tablet and passed it to Noah. 

With his height and looks, Noah was impossible to miss in the crowd. 

But Noah just stood there, blankly, not responding at all. 

Chloe took the tablet from the woman and said, “I’ll handle it.” 

That left the woman completely stunned. 

She never would’ve guessed that this drop–dead gorgeous girl was actually the one calling the shots for the whole crew. 

She thought, ‘Holy crap. 

‘Good thing I held back and didn’t say what I was thinking earlier.’ 

The woman swallowed nervously, smiled, and pointed to a section on the tablet. 

She said, “This area is made up of row villas: five in each row, ten rows total. Most of the strong Awakened Groups have already moved in. 

“But there are still some spots open in the middle of this row, and a few left in that one.” 

She pointed out the villas marked with red dots. 

The woman added, “The ones with red dots are all vacant. Feel free to choose whichever you want.” 

She glanced at the stuffed backpacks everyone was carrying. They looked packed to the brim with supplies.

“Row villas are pretty pricey. It’s 50 pounds of grain per month,” she said. 

Her voice rang out, clear and confident, making all the refugees in line turn to stare. 

Everyone started murmuring to each other. 

One whispered, “Damn, that’s highway robbery!” 

Another chimed in, “Fifty pounds of grain a month? Who’d be dumb enou 

to rent that?” 

Someone said, “No kidding, people are starving out there. A single pack of instant noodles could save your life. Who in their right mind would spend 50 pounds of grain just to rent a villa?” 

Up front, Shawn and Daisy finally managed to push their way to the front. They stared daggers at Chloe, their eyes full of 

envy.

Shawn thought, Seriously? You have to hand over just to get into the base. How could they possibly have any extra food left?‘ 

He looked over at Chloe’s crew, each one loaded down with bulging backpacks. 

He thought, ‘No freaking way. 

Those bags are probably just stuffed with junk or something. No way they’re carrying real supplies. 

But to Shawn and Daisy’s disappointment, Chloe didn’t even blink. 

“Alright, we’ll rent it for a month,” Chloe said. 

As soon as Chloe said that, the refugees started grumbling and complaining. 

“How come they don’t have to hand over their supplies? Why do they get to live in yelled. 

“Yeah, us too! We want a villa!” others chimed in.

That set the crowd off. Everyone started snickering and laughing. 

“150 pounds of supplies? Please, there’s no way they’ve got that much in those bags!” someone in the crowd snorted. 

Daisy snickered, her tone full of mockery. 

She sneered, “Pretending they’re loaded. Let’s see how long before they starve.” 

Shawn rolled his eyes, clearly unimpressed. 

He scoffed, “Seriously? All they care about is enjoying themselves, even now. Spoiled princess types like her are a matter where you put them.” 

Shawn thought Chloe’s teammates would be upset by her decision, but to his surprise, none of them showed any re 

all. 

That left Shawn genuinely puzzled.

Chapter 118 

He thought, ‘Could it really be like Daisy said? Did Chloe get involved with some older guy? 

That old man must really spoil her. He actually let her squander resources like this. 

Chloe couldn’t care less about all the gossip swirling around her. She had enough supplies in her spiritual space to last ten lifetimes. 

And on top of that, she basically owned all the supplies in Hevenscale now. 

With all that, of course, she was going to live in comfort.
