Edwina was a fast learner and could handle just about anything real jackofalltrades. Well, except for one thing she was absolutely hopeless when it came to finding her way around.

She was born with zero sense of direction. Even after trying to train herself, it was no use, so Erwin just threw in the towel.

Top floor conference room, huh?Edwina mumbled under her breath.

Getting to the top floor was easy. Just hop in the elevator to the 7th floor. But the conference room! With how huge this place was, there was no way she’d find it right away.

Should’ve asked for directions earlier, Edwina sighed. Not that would’ve helped much. Id probably still get lost. She glanced around. Great, not a single soul up here at this hour.

She figured the conference room was probably huge, so she made her best guess and picked a door to try

The whole room was walled with reflective glass, making it impossible to see what was going on inside. The door itself was reinforced and soundproofed. This has got to be the conference room, Edwina thought.

She pushed the door open, and the moment she did, their gazes locked.

In that huge office, it was just Edwina and Kelvin sitting in the chair.

You?Kelvin said, his eyes wide with surprise.

He set the papers aside, still reeling. After all that trouble, sending out so many people to hunt her down, and the miracle doctor I couldn’t find was hiding right here in my own company Kelvin thought, almost in disbelief.

Seriously? Of all people, it’s him?” Edwina thought, her heart skipping a beat.

She instinctively tried to shield her face, but it was useless. For the first time ever, she really cursed her terrible sense of direction. She’d spent all this time trying to avoid Kelvin, and now she’d just walked right into his office like she was gift- wrapped for him.

What’s he even doing with an office this massive all to himself? No wonder I ended up thinking this was the conference room, Edwina muttered to herself.

Sorry, wrong room,” Edwina blurted out, trying to play it cool.

She acted like she’d never seen Kelvin before in her life and was bout to make a quick exit.

But Kelvin wasn’t about to let her slip away. He strode forward and blocked her path.

Edwina’s brows drew together, her eyes flashing with impatience But unlike with Desmond, she couldn’t just handle Kelvin the way she wanted.

She didn’t want to give too much away in front of Kelvin.

Edwina Lennox? You’re with the Research Division?Kelvin glared at her badge, sounding genuinely surprised.

He lifted the badge hanging from her neck, his gaze sharpening with curiosity.

Do you need something, Mr. Gibson? I’m just a nobody around here. Doubt I’m much help to you.Edwina said. keeping it casual but distant.

Kelvin stood over her, looking down, but didn’t seem bothered her attitude. His voice was calm, almost warm. “Just one question. Did I do something to piss you off before?”

Then why do you act like you’ve got it out for me, huh?Kelvin esserl, his tone sharpening, clearly not letting it go

She stayed silent, but it was obvious Kelvin wasn’t about to let her off the book without an answer.

Edwina wasn’t in the mood to play word games with him. She straight to the chase I don’t like corporate big shots, and I like men even less.

Does that answer your question? I’ve got stuff to do, so I’m leaving she said, already heading for the door.

Now that she’d run into him, Edwina figured there was nothing to worry about. Still, she never thought she’d run into Kelvin this early, and to think she’d be the one to walk right into his office.

This has got to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. Edwina groaned inwardly. Staying away from Kelvin really is the way to go. Nothing good ever comes from crossing paths with that guy

As Edwina walked out of the office, Kelvin narrowed his eyes, his gaze lingering on her retreating figure

She’s got medical skills that could practically raise the dead, yet he’s content being just another face at Gibson Group?

Every time she pops up, is it pure chance, or is she playing some deeper game? What’s she really after?Kelvin thought, suspicion gnawing at him as he hurried after her.

Finally, Edwina stumbled upon the conference room.

Even with the soundproof panels, the shouting inside was so lou, it blasted right through.

Just as she got close, she could hear Pauline practically screaming her head off.

So what’s Nocturne playing at now? Are you just blatantly snatching our designs?Pauline shouted, her voice raw with fury. Who do you think we are to you? Have you ever treated us like actual human beings?”

Rupert shot a careless glance at Helene, barely bothering to hide his indifference. Pauline, you’re the one acting our of line

here.

We’ve already agreed to move you out of Maberly Fashion and to another department. You, Leander, and that intern, don’t get too full of yourselves,” he said, his tone dripping with disdain.

Nocturne Designs is the group’s powerhouse fashion brand. Te Maberly Fashions couldn’t even hold a candle to it,he

speered.

Even Madeline, who usually just coasted by and barely said a word, finally spoke up. Seriously, these are Maberly Fashions designs. Doesn’t Nocturne Designs have its own designers or what?”

Rupert was about to blow up, but the sound of the door swinging open cut him off.

Yeah, Nocturne Designs, don’t you guys have any designers of ur own? Edwina said coldly, leaning against the

doorframe.

She gave everyone in the room a frosty stare. The slides were showing the designs she’d handed to Pauline, and the Nocturne Designs crew looked like a bunch of hungry wolves, all set to snatch them up for themselves

Guess they really don’t plan on leaving us a shred of hope, Kalwa thought, her eyes narrowing.

Pauline looked at Edwina, tearyeyed and desperate. Edwina gas her a comforting pat on the shoulder, then stepped forward with confidence. Don’t worry. Let me handle this”

Helene was stunned when she spotted Edwina.

Chapter 13

Why on earth is she here?

This is Kelvin’s office floor. Fran’t let Edwina and Kelvin bump look suspicious. Helene thought anxiously.

She shot Rupert a look

chother here Gotta get her out, but I can’t make

Rupert knew Helene had Vernon Stone, one of the company’s major shareholders, hacking her up, so he was basically at her beck and call.

We’re talking about the design sketches here. Anyone not involved should step out. Edwina, this doesn’t concern you Please leave. This isn’t your place to speak,” Rupert said, his tone cold and dismissive.

Edwina walked up to the screen, her tone cool and collected. Ne involved? Not allowed to speak?”

She braced both hands on the podium, her eyes sweeping across everyone present. I’m the one who drew these designs, s tell me, am I qualified to be part of this or not?”

The room went dead silent.

Kelvin paused outside the door.

He’d heard rumors about the Maberly Fashion crew always getting the short end of the stick, but the corporate world was at dogeatdog place. He could help out one or two folks, but there was no way he could look after everyone at the bottom.

Never thought she’d get herself tangled up in this mess, Kelvin thought, a hint of surprise flickering in his eyes. Edwina…. now that’s interesting

Kelvin didn’t step in. He didn’t want to interrupt the drama. He had a feeling Edwina was about to pull off something that would really catch him off guard.

Rupert paused for a moment, then chuckled. Little girl, say thogain.”

“I said, I drew these designs. Understand?Edwina replied, her voice steady and clear.

After a few seconds of dead silence, everyone in the conference room burst out laughing, like Edwina had just told the funniest joke they’d ever heard.

Helene spoke in a deliberately gentle tone, almost as if she were rying to sound sincere. Don’t laugh at her, guys. She may not have gone to college, but she’s got real talent. I really believe in her.”

A staff member jeered, Miss Simmons, you’re just too nice. Do be taken in by someone like her. She didn’t even go to college. How could she possibly come up with those designs?”

Edwina’s really pulling out all the stops just to get on the goodle of Maberly Fashion’s boss, huh?someone snickered

She’s actually spinning this outrageous lie about drawing those esigns herself? Mau, she’s so twofaced, another scoffed.

With everyone piling on, the room was full of cutting, mocking ares aimed right at Edwina

On her first day, she barely said a word and acted all stuckup. No way she could compete with Helene’s cham, especially after Helene brought everyone fancy LV snacks.
