January looked at Gulliver curiously as they sat shoulder to shoulder to watch the movie they’d picked out. He was munching pizza and occasionally sipping his wine. She watched his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down as he ate and when he laughed at the comedic timing of the female lead of the movie they were watching.
He was a gorgeous man. Thick black lashes rimming bright blue eyes, a strong straight nose which was healed from the punch she’d put to it and plush lips with a perfect cupid’s bow. His jaw was thick with stubble, and she had a very real memory of what that felt like on her sensitive skin. She quickly turned her head away from him with the thought.
He was still bare–chested after his shower. Sitting against the headboard, he was confident in his skin. His torso still sported tattoos and as she turned her head to steal another glance at him and a letter caught her eye. She’d been avoiding looking at his exposed skin but now she was fixated. Her eyes narrowed and her heart thudded in surprise.
She was unable to stop herself as she turned almost completely now to look at the marking on his chest, above his heart, blended seamlessly in the other markings. J.

“When did you get this?” she traced the mark.
“Around the same time that I got the one on my back,” he leaned forward and encouraged her to look at it.

She easily found the tattoo of interlocked wedding bands, each one holding one of their names.
“You put my name on your skin?”
“Yes.”
“When? Why?”
“I missed you. I got wasted with Glenn one night and drew them out. He took me to friend of ours who does ink and I got them done.”
His words made her shake her head in surprise. “You got drunk? I don’t remember you being more than a few glasses of wine ever.”
“I was so wasted that Glenn carried my crying ass back home after my tattoos and tucked me.”
“Crying?”

was behind me, but I still couldn’t find you and I wanted you. I missed you.”
His words made her smile softly at him. “Did it ever occur to you that you might not ever find me?”
“No. Not ever. I knew my heart would lead me back to you.”
“But I’m not really back with you.”
“You’re in my life, January. Whether it’s as friends, coparents. or someday you may come back to me as my wife. Regardless of how you’re in my life, you’re in it. I’m grateful.”
“Really?”
“No,” he gave her a sheepish smile. “Not really. I love you. I want you. I miss you. I would do anything to have you in this bed for reasons other than watching a movie. I want to push you back against these pillows, make love to you until the sun comes up. I want to kiss you good morning. I want to kiss you goodnight tomorrow night and then repeat it all over again. I want to raise our daughter in a house we share. I want to put another baby in your belly. I want to watch it grow, round with our child. I want to take care of your every need. Massage your feet. Hold your hand while you bring another vivacious girl or a bully of a boy into the world. I want to watch first steps, hear

His hand reached out to cup her jaw, his thumb brushing her cheek softly, “I hate that you are dating other men. I hate that it’s not me who gets to see you smile over a dinner table or a cup of coffee. I hate that someone else is harboring hope to do all the things I just said I want to do because I fucked up so bad you can’t trust me.” He moved to his knees on the bed and leaned over her, his body caging her as his laptop tumbled onto the bed. “I loathe myself for the pain I caused you. I would give anything to have all my fantasies come true. I want to be with you again, January. I want to be your husband, partner, lover, baby daddy.” He straddled her as she leaned against the pillows, eyes wide and breathless. “If I could have my way, I would marry you again. I meant what I said. Those words, to me, were as real as any fucking piece of paper. In my heart,” he grabbed her hand and placed it on his solid pec, “in here I married you that day in the courthouse. I know I fucked up not making it legal, but it didn’t make it less real because baby it was as real as the man in front of you.”
She was shaking as he leaned over her, his face inches from
hers.
“So no, baby, I don’t mean it when I say I’m happy with getting scraps. I’m not thrilled to be your buddy. I’m not ecstatic to qnly get to coparent with you.” His chest heaved as he poured out his heart to her, “I will take the scraps, I will take the

“Dad? What are you doing?”
“Fuck,” Gulliver gritted out through his teeth as he looked over his shoulder at the two kids standing there. “Uh, your mom and I were watching a movie.”
“And I got something in my eye. I think it was dust from the laptop.” She tried not to punch him in the gut when Gulliver went with the story and opened her eye with his fingers and blew in it. “What the hell?”
“Blowing out the dust,” he grinned at her as he moved to get off her lap.
“You don’t blow in someone’s eye, idiot. You could give me pink eye. I don’t know where that mouth has been.”
“Eating pizza and drinking wine,” he was cocky as he smirked at her. “I thought blowing out the dust was the right thing.”
“The dust in my eyeball is the only thing getting blown tonight,” she snapped as she shook her head at him.
He was still beaming and she couldn’t figure out why.
“What are you two doing up?” January asked ignoring the 10:42 happy man beside her as he righted the laptop.

“We can’t sleep. The couch cushions are not as comfy as we thought they were,” Kaylee complained. “Can we sleep with you?”
“I’m not sleeping in here. We’re watching a movie.” January argued.
“Yeah, but we could have a real sleepover. I can sleep between you, and my dad and Mitsos can sleep on the other side of my dad. It’s a big bed. We should watch K Pop Demon Hunters. Mitsos never saw it.” Kaylee was already climbing up on the bed squeezing between the two adults.
“It’s way past your bedtime,” January argued as her daughter was yanking the blankets down to get under them.
“I know but now I’m in bed,” she made wide eyes at them.
“She’s going to rule this family so well that we’ll all be dancing monkeys for the queen,” Gulliver said with a laugh as he patted the other side of him for Mitsos. Mitsos curled right up against his chest, and he pressed a kiss to the top of his head. “Should we get under the blankets, Mitsos?”
“Yes please. I’m cold. Kaylee said her farts would keep us warm, but I think she was wrong.”
January choked on the comment and then got under the 276
blankets while Gulliver lifted the blankets.

“This is weird.”
“Why Mom? I slept with Nana and Papa before lots of times in their bed. This is the same thing except Mitsos is here but he’s my cousin. It’s not like we’d kiss or anything. I bet Darwin would like to kiss him though. Darwin likes boys.” She leaned forward and nodded emphatically at Mitsos.
“I don’t want to kiss boys. I want to kiss girls someday, when I’m not so scared,” Mitsos said seriously. “My dad kisses girls. If you kiss girls you can make babies. I want to have babies.”
“Only girls can have babies.” Kaylee said seriously. “Boys can’t have babies.”
“If I find a wife I can have her have my babies. She’s going to be a good mom too. She’ll stay.”
The assertive comment from Mitsos made January’s heart squeeze tight in the most heartbreaking of ways.
“Mitsos, there is no doubt in my mind you’ll find the perfect match for you someday when you’re a grown up. Right now, though, all you need to do is focus on being a little boy and being happy.”
“I am happy,” he looked at her with wide blue eyes. “I have a cousin and she’s very funny and I have you as my aunt, but 3/6 cán pretend you’re my mom sometimes. Kaylee said.

January cupped his cheek softly as he rested his head against Gulliver’s chest as if he’d snuggled with his uncle a thousand times in his lifetime. “You definitely can.”
Her eyes met Gulliver’s as he rubbed Mitsos‘ back keeping him curled to his side.
“This is cozy!” Kaylee squealed as she lifted Gulliver’s other arm to cuddle him. “Mom, you snuggle me, okay?”
“Sure, Kaylee.”
Gulliver held his arm up, “it’s big enough for both of you. Get over here, Mom.” He winked at January as she set the laptop on his knee and wrapped around Kaylee and under his arm.
She quickly found the movie Kaylee wanted, knowing that the songs would be stuck in her head for the next several days. Soon Kaylee was singing along, and Mitsos‘ eyes were glued to the screen. Gulliver’s eyes were drifting between the three people cuddled up with him and a wide smile on his face he couldn’t seem to tamper.
Sixty minutes later, both kids were sound asleep on Gulliver’s chest, and he looked at January as she reached for the compu
